Uh... what? What I described it how practically every open world game works.
Not really, you described how a last gen open world game works. In gta 4 pretty much everything was being rendered at the same time. In a big open world game like just cause 2 they just used LODs, using lower quality models if you were in a distance and swapped to higher quality models when you got more close.
A dvd can only hold up to 8.5GB which, yeah it's only a problem for the 360, but when Rockstar made GTA 4 they made in on xbox, and then ported it to other consoles. So the limit is probably holding things back. Some games have multiple discs though, so I doubt that this is why they are only going to do some parts of SA. [editline]3rd November 2011[/editline] Plus all the other limits that consoles have (512MB RAM etc)
They could do something like BF3 did and require you to download content to the console. [editline]3rd November 2011[/editline] Although I admit that would be rather annoying
I don't think it's going to be just LS, why would they show the Hydra? Wouldn't LS be too small for planes? My memory of SA is lacking.
What part of LOS SANTOS AND ITS SURROUNDING AREAS did you not understand?

You had very low-poly models at a distance, and cars, people etc were only made near the player, and removed when the player got far away. Also, about size, most PC's either use downloads (which are easily possible on consoles through xbox live or PSN), or use dvds (which means size issues are the same for xbox and PC. Also, the ps3 has a 50 GB dual layer blu ray disc.
this will be a good game
Rumor has it you'll be able to steal cars AND kill people in this GTA.
Rumor has it you'll be able to steal cars AND kill people in this GTA.
There's some speculation that you'll be able to BUY GUNS this time, but I think that's just crazy talk.
I want LV and SF, even if they are bundled in as areas of LS. [editline]3rd November 2011[/editline]
There's some speculation that you'll be able to BUY GUNS this time, but I think that's just crazy talk.
Heavy trailer analysis even implies you can SHOOT the guns.
How would they ever justify you NOT going to Las Venturas? The game is about the pursuit of money and thats one big gambling city. Makes no sense to not have it in.
Well I blame consoles for that If it was made for PC, we would have a full San Andreas area. Goddamn you consoles, GODDAMN YOU. Someone needs to make better consoles, about fucking time the "next gen" is so 2006 right now.
How would they ever justify you NOT going to Las Venturas? The game is about the pursuit of money and thats one big gambling city. Makes no sense to not have it in.
Las Venturas is the place I want to go the most in the game. Along with Bone County. I used to love flying around the desert, soaking in the scenery from above. Feeling superior to the desert. However, cruising around the sands on a freeway was godlike.
I really wanna see what happened to CJ's airstrip in Bone County. Hopefully it'll be present in the game or in a DLC.
I really wanna see what happened to CJ's airstrip in Bone County. Hopefully it'll be present in the game or in a DLC.
If Rockstar even DARE make LS + SF DLC...
If Rockstar even DARE make LS + SF DLC...
Maybe something like Episodes from San Andreas, where each DLC adds a new city to the original game (and maybe a new playable character for each DLC).
It would be awesome because they would have more work put into them. If they try and release all 3 cities at release they'll all suffer in quality.
Yeah, it doesn't all have to be one year after release; they could procedurally release them in the style of Andreas and Vice, and they'd act as mega-expansions to GTAV.

When did it become weird to actually take a while and a great big game that is the full fucking game and ship it when it's done. Not make half a game, ship it, release at full price, release the rest later for half the price.
Rumor has it you'll be able to steal cars AND kill people in this GTA.
Word on the street says that there might even be some sort of criminal activities included in the plot.
If Rockstar even DARE make LS + SF DLC...
What's the problem? Nobody complained when they sold new missions, characters, vehicles, weapons and music as expansions which really make the word "DLC" sound good but now it's not ok when you get all that plus a new city? It's not like they cut that from the main game to make you pay extra. GTA V will be a full game, you can be sure of that, it's Rockstar.
Are you dense? You do realize they've been working on this game for four years right?
I'm not criticizing Rockstar. I was criticizing the way it has become normal for games to release this way in the industry. I have full faith Rockstar will not disappoint on any level regardless if SF or LV are in the game or not.
I really wonder how they'll set LS now that its the star city.
I don't know if this was posted already because I'm not going through 15 pages, but I saw these on GTAForums.com.
Word on the street says that there might even be some sort of criminal activities included in the plot.
Bullshit! You're lying!
I have a feeling this game will be insanely bigger than GTA SA. And I can't wait to see how they'll do the mountains.
A PS2 could handle a game bigger than GTA IV.
A PS2 could only handle that with some very clever level streaming, and a nasty polygon budget in most cases. Other than the fact the PS3 and PC would be the only platforms capable of actually storing the game decently, there isn't really much reason for them to not do the entire SA state technology wise. If their level streaming is made well enough, it is more than possible. But it would take a metric fuckton of time with the amount of detail that goes into a new GTA city.
A PS2 could handle a game bigger than GTA IV.
Right, but you must remember that map sizes aren't the only limit. You have objects, audio, animations, textures, etc. That all has to fit on the same DVD. It'd be easy to make a huge-ass untextured map that spans for hundreds of miles, but then you have to actually place objects and textures on it. It could be procedurally rendered, where everything is mathematically stored in a file, and then the game rebuilds the same map every time you load it, but the GTA maps don't seem to give off that impression. So anyway, the point is, you could have massive maps on the PS2, but look at the relative detail and quality of them.
You do realize they've been working on this game for four years right?
You do realize they've been working on GTA IV for four years right? Before you say it took them so long because they had to make the engine: it's not an indie developer, all sections work at the same time. Also, as should be noticeable, Los Santos has much more diversity to offer and is much bigger.

fuck where did madd dogg's mansion go
Also, Ever since James from Bully was brought up, I'm definitely thinking he's our mystery 3rd character. It seems like Bully was around the early-mid 90s, so he'd be around 25ish here, making him fit the bill perfectly. Bully and GTA do exist in the same universe, as Bullworth Academy was shown on TV in GTA4.
