It's now required that both The Rescuer and Mercenary Scar return in STALKER 2. Honestly, only they can pull of the Trenchcoat/Vintar look well enough.

Misery is its name. While it can be rewarding, steel yourself. It's more punishing than Redux.
Redux is more polished and is generally preferred.
Really either one is a viable option.
Misery has stupid 'realism' features. It's a nice mod, but it just has so many fucking flaws.

I just don't like impractical characters placed there for the sake of looking cool. Especially not in Stalker.
Just failed the Monolith challenge in Dooms Mod.
After a few days of wandering around killing loners, I made a one man assault on the Freedom base in Red Forest.
After making quick work of the outside guards with my VSS, I entered the base. The snipers proved to be formidable opponents, keeping me from annihilating the surprised ground units. Before I managed to take out more than 3 or 4, I had run out of ammo.
I made for one of the sniper towers, knowing it was my only option to continue my glorious crusade upon the unworthys. I quickly dispatched the marksman at the top and righteously converted his shooter into a tool for the Monolith. After killing 2 more Freedom fools, I began exchanging shots with the other snipers, before being hit in the neck. I managed to take one more out before I succumbed to my wounds and was welcomed to the Monoliths embrace.
That was really fun, I might try the same thing but as a loner, try to do survive for as long as possible without any loading saves.

It's assumed that Scar fell unconscious and was inducted to become Charon and head of the Monolith. It's also possible that he's just a random Monolithian who could have possibly survived all the of the stalkers and other shit. And Scar is far from impractical, nor does he try to look cool. In fact, if it weren't for him, the entire series would have a different plot. He wouldn't have stopped [sp]Strelok from reaching the inside of CNPP, which if it had happen, would mean that he would just lose himself to the Wish Granter, which also means that he'd never discover the secrets of the Zone and give it to the USS, which again means that a lot of the current story relies on what Scar did back then.[/sp]
Anyway, what exactly does the Bulat and Skat mean from the suits? It's been pestering me on what they mean, but I don't know Russian, so I couldn't translate it.

On startup. I can only guess that I downloaded the right things, I just grabbed the easy gamedata.7z file instead of their installer because (according to google translate, people were having issues with the installer) Was there more I was meant to grab?[/QUOTE]
Looks like you forgot to grab the translation files too. English SoC doesn't contain the Rus text files, and crashes if it can't find it.

Err woops sorry I didn't see your original response, but I did throw the translation on too, I thought it might have some reason been the problem so I tried again without it and it was still happening so I didn't think to add it in my post. So it was still happening with the translation even though the localization.txt set the language to eng

just look at the last few pages...the general consensus is that most of it's 'realism' features are implemented really poorly (either you can't run for more than 5 seconds or you sprint at superhuman speeds) and that it's overly brown and depressing
I enjoyed IWA a lot, so I guess I'll give Misery a shot.

Buy a grenade launcher, 5-6 nades on Stalker difficulty can kill them.

I cringed really hard when I had MISERY and had to [sp]take the gas canister to the antenna complex[/sp] and realized that I forgot to buy food and had to move at snail speed for like 20 mins untill I found a group of stalkers that took me to skadvosk.

They seem to be pissed off about a couple of grunts lurking near the village. I killed them off, but they're still like this. I also tried the save-quit-load procedure, that didn't work either.
Any tips on getting them to calm down?

Redux' new magazine system. This is something I've wanted to see in practise in an FPS for a long time. If any of the redux team are reading this, please add +1 round on closed-bolt weapons on tactical reload, and if it's not too much effort, different animations for tactical and dry reloads.
Also, in the thread on the subject of ammo management in games, I also mentioned a system for automatically putting a mag back into your inventory - tapping reload chucks it, holding reload saves it.

Holy shit, thats pretty awesome. I'm wondering though, will NPCs also drop empty mags when they reload?
Probably wouldn't be hard to do, when they reload just have it drop an item that looks like a mag for whatever weapon they were using with the appropriate amount of ammo that was left in it when they switched it out.
Then you could pick up their empty mag and throw it at them or something. :v:

I really enjoyed it. Once I've had my fill of SGM I'm gonna go back to Misery. I'll probably remove the stamina drain on walking, but everything else is pretty good.

Did you ever crash while trying to go to Pripyat, Glitch? I consistently get a crash when telling Zulu we're ready to go. I assembled the full squad, tried leaving the region, waiting a few days, and coming back, but no dice. Still get a freeze and then a CTD with the generic windows error message.
I didn't crash, but it froze up a little bit. Try ctrl-v'ing the error. Or is it just a stack trace?
