STALKER Series Megathread: All news we get about STALKER 2 are bad jokes and concept art
It's a shame you can't really be stealthy in stalkan. Would've been fun to try and get to the trader without being spotted.
I've wanted a stealth overhaul mod which doesn't make things ridiculously easy.
Not Metal Gear Solid style, but enough to sneak by.

There're some mods that make NPCs visors kind of... understandable, I guess. But all of that is highly scripted, cause GSC got all lazy on AI coding. Also, I can't even imagine why GSC made cover system for NPCs in Clear Sky, which was awesome, and then castrated it again in CoP. WHY, god damn it.

Eh, the reason they got it functioning was helped by the fact that the maps where littered with waist-high cover everywhere. It also made combat basically "Gears of War" because you had two sides taking cover and plinking inaccurate fire at each other, all the while the player could just flank the enemies. Call of Pripyat's battles are way more "mobile" and the NPCs actually move to tactically advantageous positions like behind bushes and obstacles instead of hiding behind the same crate all the time.
Moreover, the animations they had such as vaulting over the cover where okay but the fact that you couldn't hurt the enemies while they performed the slow animation made the atmosphere take a slight hit.

Also, the area around Yanov Station looks marvelous when the weather is clear.

I recall that in the early STALKER builds, GSC had made AI so good that it more often than not totally owned the player, so it was toned down to the dumb "HEEEEY BROOO" Stalkers you see today.
Someone else write a story for P34, I don't have the time, god damn it!

Does it have to be about anything in particular?
'Cause I doubt I'd be able to produce shit half as weird as anyone else.

Didn't this Super AI end up being way better than the player, make its way to every needed destination, and pretty much finish the game before the player? Just imagine going up against that guy in the Arena.
Downloading Degty's story. Can't wait.

That it did. It would have been pretty interesting actually, just stick a camera on the side of its head and tell it to complete set missions. You could bet on the outcome like it's a game of cards, or put two against each other.
Someone really should get this going.

Yeah, they also made the Zone a one big level without any kind of loading screens (though released 4 years later, and even then computers 'couldn't handle' that), made entirely realistic A-Life system that could make any kind of simulation suck full gasmask of dicks... And we ended up with, pretty much, what we ended up with. I think that was... how can I put it mildly? Whole lot of utter fucking bullshit, is it the right word?

We got a good amount of stuff and even then there's a few people who can't run the game. Besides, if we had all that stuff nobody would be able to play People Soup and other such large, laggy mods.

Is there any chance that the mag drop can be made context sensitive? If you're in the middle of a firefight for example, just drop the mag, but in any other situation it ends right back up into your inventory? Either that, or make it depend on how long the reload button is held (not sure how flexible Stalker's scripting system can be in that regard..) as to whether you do a 'slow' reload (where it ends up back in the inventory) or a quick reload (where it's just dropped to the ground).
I think it'd add a bit more realism..generally, if I'm just checking my weapons before/after an engagement, I wouldn't throw my mag on the ground like a tard. :v:

Then there wouldn't be all that stuff needed, would it? Because most of the large mods aims at restoration of all the things GSC promised in the first place, hence Lost Alpha.
I would stream if I didn't sit on shitty fucking ADSL+.
I would also host the FTP if I wasn't stuck here. :(

Ow, that sucks. I'm just fucking interested in how this mod turned out to be, but I'm not in place to download all of that and see for myself how it is.

True, but that'd cut out all the other mods that add whole new features to the game, or different stories. So for instance, Doom's mod might not have been able to work since freeplay wasn't an initial part of the game.
Lucky me I have a stable connection and a lot of patience/free time.

You should edit the in-inventory weapon pictures so they dont have magazines

Modding would be entire diffirent story if ShoC would be diffirent game, I think. Doom's mod would be somewhat diffirent. And everything else.
Imagine a Complete as an awesome mod that adds freeplay and enhances mutants behaviour to be completely realistic!
Who am I kidding. SOME of the mods would be the same. Totally.
By the way, I've recently started reading The Road and I should recommend it to you guys, it's good.

That was one of the best renditions of a post-apocalyptic scenario I've ever read.

Er..to my knowledge the "One big level" zone never actually happened. Far back to the earliest builds it was clear that it was built to be separate maps. :v:

Exactly.
guys maybe we could collaborate on a P.34 story, kind of a 5 words each type of deal. It would be a community project, a "people soup" one might say.

And I bet that less than half of them have NPCs.
