What was the mod that you folks were working on for CoP?
Redux
hello
It's really aggravating when you think you're in a blowout safe zone just to die 5 seconds later.
Just got Misery, stable so far but I'm not entirely happy with it right now. A lot of the "survival" elements of it just feel overdone so the mod maker could go "look how hardcore this is." For example, you now have to spend ~1000 rubles on food in order to buy enough to get anywhere near filling your stomach. Then, if your stamina bar is anything except 100 percent full, you lose stamina while walking. Add to that the fact that you have to save + load after buying all of Beard's food in order to restock him just so you can buy THAT amount of food and it starts to feel like a chore. I'm playing as the "recon" class and the rifle you start you with is less accurate than a pistol. I sold it immediately. Dogs have enough health to survive multiple 9mm headshots and can kill you with 2 hits. Normally, the beginning of COP with mods like this is exciting--you have to scrounge and fight just to find equipment slightly better than the crap you start with, and every encounter leaves you wondering just what amazing loot that bandit might have on him. Misery, so far, just feels like a chore, especially since I literally couldn't walk across the swamp in Zaton without stopping to regain my stamina (this was after a breakfast of 2 cans of tuna and 3 "bread leftovers). Also, I found my first stash! It was a single bandage. OK, I'm willing to accept "hardcore" decisions about the game for the sake of difficulty, but when it stops making sense even in the context of the Zone (who would stash a single bandage?) it grates. I'll probably be tweaking this mod in the areas I mentioned above, and I look forward to seeing what else Misery has to offer me. The environment is excellent, by the way--Atmosfear 3+all new ambient=spooky shit.
So I'm just about to go into the tunnels for the first time to Pripyat in CoP, how much left of the game have I?
So I'm just about to go into the tunnels for the first time to Pripyat in CoP, how much left of the game have I?
Quite a bit, there's a lot to do in Pripyat
So I'm just about to go into the tunnels for the first time to Pripyat in CoP, how much left of the game have I?
Well you've still got another map that's at least as big as the other two. You're nearing the end though. Pripyat's mostly just a ghost town.
So the way you described it, it sounds like an over the top Redux.
With regard to prices/hunger/loot, it really is so far.
I'm looking at a /v/ thread for Stalker and what I'm seeing is pretty close to universal hatred.
That's not surprising considering the disparity between the hype and the actual features. I mean : you take one good look at the features and it's mostly affecting the game balance, graphical tweaks and adding some guns. That said, it's the community that hyped the mod to death, not the author.
Just got Misery, stable so far but I'm not entirely happy with it right now.
How is the hostility in the game ? By which I mean, are there any "hostile-on-sight" human enemies patrolling around Zaton / Jupiter ? (besides zombies)

The last time I left Skadovsk it was foggy out, so I couldn't see shit. Ran into some boars at that place where you hunt the Chimera (a boar one-shotted me) and some dogs further north (dogs raped my shit). I did spot at least one Loner squad on my way out there though.
My experience with Misery so far hasn't been too bad actually. I did the Bloodsucker lair mission and for some reason got it in my head I could take out all the bloodsuckers by standing on one of the boxes. After killing about 5 of them I ran out of ammo, then I killed 2 more with spam 'nades. Then I just had the knife D: Then the next 5 minutes consisted of me trying to swipe the last damn bloodsucker with my knife from on top of the box until I accidentally hit "D" and fell off the box. Bastard cornered me and somehow I stabbed him to death by spamming knife button. Now I've got walk back to Skadovsk in the middle of the night, with no ammo and I can't see shit. :suicide: edit: also 3 bars of health. Crapfuck. Otherwise I agree on the whole survival hardcore thing being way overkill. But somehow I was getting sick of my SGM playthrough so it's kind of a nice change.
I'm wondering if the asshat that made the mod even playtested the features and went "MHM THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL BALANCED REALISM! EVERYONE WILL TOTALLY LOVE IT!"
I'm wondering if the asshat that made the mod even playtested the features and went "MHM THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL BALANCED REALISM! EVERYONE WILL TOTALLY LOVE IT!"
I kinda doubt it, honestly. Either that or they tested the extremes (effects of starvation, exhaustion, etc) and went "yeah this is pretty hardcore" without thinking of how much effort you have to take to just play normally without having to stop to rest every ten seconds, or not be able to fight dogs. Man, though, Misery's aesthetics + SGM's gameplay would be damned awesome.
One thing I wanna see is Lost World Requital, except for CoP, combined with some features of SGM, Redux and TFW. I don't really mind vanilla maps but holy shit I did them to death and I'm begging for a new map mod to come around or something. That's also one of the reasons why I'm hyped for STALKER 2.
I'm still really liking MISERY. Not so much a huge mod like redux as it is a polished merge mode with a nice art style.
That's also one of the reasons why I'm hyped for STALKER 2.
Yeah, same here. However, the huge mods that just add all the maps from all the games don't really do it for me the same way if the maps are just "there" but they aren't thought out properly. I think Lost Alpha will actually have the new maps in a way which makes it feel "natural", like they actually should be there and I think Redux 2.0 will accomplish that as well. [t]http://i.imgur.com/LXzPy.jpg[/t] I think it'll be glorious.
Installed Mysery. Won't let me play unless I insert all five pieces of my CoP disk. (Which is broken in to 5 pieces.)
Ah dang, this pretty much kills the mod for me. Also, shouldn't you buy a replacement as an emergency measure ?
http://twitter.com/#!/ForkParker/status/157689404142518272 So, apparently the CEO of Digital Devolver (publisher of Serious Sam 3) is interested in STALKER 2 ?
Installed Mysery. Won't let me play unless I insert all five pieces of my CoP disk. (Which is broken in to 5 pieces.) fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck

what did that tweet say? it's deleted now also how is misery [editline]13th January 2012[/editline] holy fuck it's like people complaining about redux but 10x worse
Misery looks quite nice.
Misery looks quite nice.
It's easy enough for the end user of a mod to make any mod look nice (usually all one needs to do is merge Atmosfear with it, and add some texture packs), but making the mod fun is something that is far easier for the dev to sort out before throwing it out into the wide world; before some unfortunate sod downloads it, tries it and gets raped by superdogs.
what did that tweet say? it's deleted now
something along the lines of "joewilburn, who do I have to contact to talk about Stalker 2"
thorny I fucking swear to god, if you make blind dogs more dangerous than chimeras again, I will find out where you live, and I will eat your soul.
My buddy who just got into S.T.A.L.K.E.R has told me that no game has ever elicited such feelings of paranoia or plain fear out of him. He hasn't encountered the bloodsucker. He doesn't know what true fear is.
So how's Misery? I like realism, but if it's as "lol cause hard = realism rite" as I hear I'll probably not play it.
