• Occupation CS: Source - A mod based on weapons and realism

I tried to play today. There was one server, no players. I joined anyway, and after the bar got to the end a grey box came up that said "Disconnected" with no other text. :smith:
This mod is actually pretty great, despite the maps and the ugly you know what. It's pretty awesome when you down a guy with a single shot to the leg as he's shooting at you, then finish him off. And then getting downed so many times you basically have the functionality of a walking corpse. I just wish it was a bit more optimized. Oh, and had more players, plenty of more players.
You know, after playing it for a while I'm not really seeing why the UI is so hated. I mean yeah, it ain't pretty, but it seems rather functional to me. and I kinda like the way relevant information slides on and offscreen as you need it, staying out of the way when you don't for the most part. And there's a button to bring it up any time. I mean don't get me wrong, it needs some serious changes. Like those ugly little icons that are aliased to hell. But it's got some nice concepts. It should adjust to my resolution. Instead I get all that whitespace on the right. Makes the bottom box look really cluttered
Until they fix it you just have to . . .
By the way, there's a 3.2 patch that might be a little hard to find on the ModDB page http://www.gamefront.com/files/20297447/OccupationCS_Patch.3.2.exe
You Guys are HUD obsessed. I seriously spent little time on the HUD and most of the time creating an energy based ballistic and damage system. The idea was that players would prefer not to die from a bullet graze. Having said that, clearly the HUD is not worthy, so I will attempt a complete redesign of the Games front end. The models, animations and maps are currently place holders for the most sophisticated Combat System in any FPS to date. This content will be swapped out in increments for a more realistic militaristic look and feel. The AI is not perfect but version 3.+ they are definitely more interesting. I am also implementing new Game Play including single spawn missions. The Latest Game-play Mode is "Surge" which will be in the latest release 3.3 coming this weekend. [editline]14th May 2011[/editline] PS I really HATE VGUI :)
Are these weapons yours' or fps bananas'?

It's not what I'd call pretty, but it's functional and not really confusing. I love what you're doing with the gameplay though. You've managed to create an incredibly complex and realistic system without making it feel clunky and confusing (see: Armed Assault II). I'm quite excited to see where you end up taking this. Although, if you plan on integrating into the Half Life 2 storyline, perhaps a staunchly "realistic militaristic look and feel" isn't necessarily the best route to take. The realism in terms of physics and the injury system is great, but a major part of Half Life is the science fiction elements. Perhaps consider adding things like reverse-engineered Combine/Black Mesa weapons and technology? HEV armour that works similar to the "reacitve" armour on tanks or something like that? It would be interesting to see how that sort of thing might fit into a highly realistic combat system. But ultimately it's up to you, I'm just throwing out ideas that may or may not work. The AI seemed pretty nice to me. Not particularly amazing, but I certainly didn't notice any outstanding moments of stupidity, like in say Brink where an enemy sometimes won't even knowledge your presence while you're in their line of sight until you actually fire at them. But any improvements you intend to make I would certainly be glad to see.
Does anyone know how to get more ammo for a weapon? I keep running out too fast, so I tried to click the "add" button next to the weapon I wanted more ammo for. It doesn't work, I don't think.
So the mod has been patched to b3.4. Download is right at the top of the ModDB page. Am I the only one who gets crashes when trying to start a game now?
that UI is so sexy mmmmm
Patch 3.4.1 has been released, game is now playable again. There's a server up right now and people were actually playing earlier, including the creator himself. UI has been tweaked a bit. Health bar has been changed to a neat little heart monitor thingy. Some weapon models got changed and the scopes look better. AI got some changes too.
Ooh, neato. Been liking playing with the bots, this should be a nice addition.
Probably going to try it. The hud and viewmodels look...Less then decent. But i guess they are pretty good for a mod.
Playing with bots doesn't work anymore. [editline]17th May 2011[/editline] Does it work for anyone else? [editline]17th May 2011[/editline] Now its crashing when I try to select a weapon. Weird.
Are you using the 3.4.1 patch? 3.4 has a bug where the game crashes when bots try to spawn
Wait, there was a 3rd patch released in these past 2 days? [editline]17th May 2011[/editline] Yeah, I see it. Thanks.
It crashes a lot for me, usually on map load or on deployment. From what I've played, though, it's pretty fun. I have a couple of suggestions though. Leaning would be very useful. There should also be separate dry reload and tactical reload animations, as well as +1 round when it would apply. The ironsights need a bit of work in terms of their handling, and where appropriate the dots and sight pictures on Reflex sights should be a fair bit smaller.
I'm interested, but all the negative feedback is kinda making me wary. I like realism to an extent, but I don't want to browse through a hundred types of ammo to start playing.

(I mean that they would choose to only use it so that they could get familiar with other ammo types first)

It's not a bad mod by any means, it just needs a fair bit of work.
Does "Completed Multi-Leveled Configuration Saveable Inventory System" mean no more having to set up your loadout again and again?
Why do we have so many "realism" mods?
we don't?
Why do we have so many "realism" mods?
Go ahead, name your list of this oh so overbearing amount of "realism" mods
I'm interested, but all the negative feedback is kinda making me wary. I like realism to an extent, but I don't want to browse through a hundred types of ammo to start playing.
Each weapon usually only has like 2 or 3 ammo types. Depending on things like what calibre it uses. In spite of the realism it's quite coherent and easy to grasp. It's not like ARMA where you literally have more than one sprint button.
OccupationCS is the bomb, it's a shame nobody plays it.
Downloading right now, any server or people playing? Sounds like fun.
