They also had that girly voice in Oblivion. After playing Morrowind, I thought it was blasphemous!
I realize now after Skyrim that everyone in Oblivion had the face of a hilariously obese person despite what their body looked like.

It's even better in third person.
I thought I was the only one who did this.
Damn you Bethesda! Even if this guard is essential cause he's an optional part of the totally optional Cicero quest. He tried to arrest me so I attacked him and now I can't kill or disable with the console even.

An essential guard...!
Good god, even the farmer's wife is essential. She's not part of the quest! She's just his wife, she doesn't even have any dialogue!
Bethesda game studios had nothing to do with new vegas, so that might be it.
TBH I'm pretty much convinced after skyrim that nobody at bethesda has design skill making RPG's from a gameplay, storytelling or balance standpoint but they are all very good at making an open world game.

She finally got fed up with Nazeem I see.

I know its been said a thousand times that Bethesda had nothing to do with New Vegas, but how hard is it to see that a game that uses their (older) engine and is still similar to The Elder Scrolls (Open world action-rpg) has major successes that Oblivion and Fallout 3 did not? I'm also sure the majority of the Bethesda team played New Vegas, even if it was just a "I wonder how this team did this differently with the same tools we had"
The great companion features would work perfectly in Skyrim since you can even MARRY people now, leaving lots of opportunities for memorable companions. All we have now is two dimensional characters that have little unique dialogue.
The speech skill is basically useless now since you can still talk your way out of everything with the bare minimum skill, and if you can't you can just bribe someone with 300-400 gold every time and it works. Besides a few nifty perks here and there you can just carry around a near weightless amulet or ring or BOTH for when you go to the shop, getting 40% discounts even if your speech skill is 15.
And being able to kill anyone you wanted would also work amazingly well. You could always be the badass nord barbarian that you wanted to, or you could be an evil mage who resurrects anyone he wants as his minion, or if you thought Ulfric was a dick you could kill him at ANY point in the game (if you were good enough)
These are features that work perfectly fine for Fallout or The Elder Scrolls, unlike some things people try to compare, so I don't see why Bethesda couldn't take a peek at the things New Vegas did well that they could also do well. There's a lot of missed opportunity here. I'm not just nitpicking little shit either, the game would be significantly better with these features.
This thread makes me want to play New Vegas now, just to see what all the improvements were.
But honestly, Charon the ghoul companion from fallout 3 who was explicitly meant to have no personality, had more personality than most if not all Skyrim followers.

Hearing stuff like this makes me want to get New Vegas, even though I don't care for Fallout's brand of post-apocolyptic at all (to the point where I "only" spent about 50 hours into F3 before I totally lost interest and just stopped playing the game) and would much rather have something more elder-scrolls like setting-wise.
Ah well, I'm sure there are plenty of things that can be fixed via mods to give a similar experience, sans characters being two-demensional.
imagine if obsidian did skyrim instead
how great it would be
You cannot go first person whilst riding a horse in Skyrim.

no it would still be on the older gamebryo engine and the map would be half as big

It was on sale for like 5 bucks during the christmas sale, every person ever should have bought it.
I bought the 70 dollar CE and I haven't regretted a second of the 160 hours I've played. Also, regarding mods, theres never going to be that developer quality voice acting and it really ruins a lot of things. It's really important for companions too, especially if you want to flesh them out.

Uhh not if they had the same engine.

Some of the things would have been much better. Looking at the faction system.
Should I just set everything to ultra, or keep the settings it gave me when it checked my specs?
I have a 6850 and a i5 2500.

What settings did it set you at? I'm running a 9800GT and Q6600, and have everything set to medium-high and have cranked up render distances from the recommended of medium. Game runs fine, very rare stuttering.

Yes, obsidian did make fighting a multi faction war feel like fighting a war in new vegas. We had this discussion in the fallout thread about fallout 4 a few months ago. Bethesda should be in charge of the art direction, map design, soundtrack and anything else related to the atmosphere.
Obsidian can handle character mechanics, quest line writing, and the overall story department which they've done quite well in vegas. Obviously they'd need to work together on certain parts, but I think Obsidian understands Bethesda's style and can seamlessly integrate their ideas into Bethesda's world.

NV had a good story but it wasn't nearly as fun as FO3.
I could be playing this game now since new years. BUT NO! The keystore I boght a key off sent me a already used key and the support is the worst fucking support in history! They offered me a 50% discount coupon instead of giving me a new key. I declined and now they won't answer since 3 days.
Tip: Never buy from onlinekeystore.com.
Pure hate runs through my veins.
A bit of a noob question. Just starting toying with the Console, and want to spawn an Assassin and have him as a follower. I set his Addfac to what is needed but regardless can never speak to him to open the dialogues. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Nevermind I got it.

I don't think the dialogue exists for random NPCs

Of course. Everyone agrees that while fallout 3 is ridiculously fun to explore, it's main quest was fairly weak. New Vegas's quests were great, but it wasn't nearly as fun to wander about in. That's exactly my point. If they work together, focusing on their strengths, the game produced would be fantastic.

And unless I'm mistaken you don't even have a fire spell equipped there

Yep, but that "glitch" applies to nearly all non essential npc's

JUST AN AVERAGE DAY IN SKYRIM!
Just recommended my friend some mods like Yadda's settings. They always worked for me and as soon my friend installs them the game kind of explodes and is unplayable.

Opinions.
I don't even bother. I just use the realistic lighting without post-process mod (which doesn't use shaders so not only does it actually affect detection in-game and such but it'll run better for people who have poor PC's), and couple it with some of my own subtle tweaks to color/saturation. I like where I have it now :)
1st time 'round I couldn't get Yadda's settings working either. All I got was black screen.
