If only I had the killable children mod.. :v:
So I finally got around to picking up Skyrim yesterday, and it's just finished downloading. What essential mods do you guys suggest picking up? I've heard about the UI mod that makes it suck less, should I get that? I'm not fussed about super duper graphics, I'm probably only playing on High.
Crash to desktop... I can go days without having one, but that just means that I'm less paranoid about saving. So when it does happen, I just have to walk away. :argh:
I've been trying to get Vlindrel Hall for two days now.

Check the OP.

What mod or mods is that? Seems a lot more advanced then just some underwear mod.

Why do I have a feeling that having chainmail underwear would be really uncomfortable.
For anyone that thinks they will not enjoy this masterpiece, I was once just like you: despised everything fantasy, never watched or read Lord of the Rings, hated Oblivion. Then I got this game. I love it soooooooooooooooo much. Please, just give it a chance. I've even converted some of my codfag friends.

All you really need is Killable Children and the one that gives werewolves dicks.
Noone needs better graphics anyway

I actually wore chainmail once, and from what I recall it wasn't much different from a really thick and heavy jacket.
Then again that was about five years ago and it might have had leather inserts.
I am sort of scared for when the eventual sex mods are released, letting players rape everything
We all know they are going to happen no matter what.
Actually I look forward to when I can shag Ysolda, my bitch...er wife.
Looks like there are two Vigilants of Stendarr Guild projects going on. I'll be looking forward to that. Also, am I the only one that wishes we had crossbows? I mean they were in Morrowind, so why not? They should take far longer then bows to reload and draw. Maybe 5 seconds, but ignore armor, as real crossbows are designed to.
They could be rare and uncraftable, as any sort of complex mechanism is beyond the skills of the average skyrim smith. Maybe a few parts can be salvaged from Dwarven machines and put together by a master smith with dwarven tools. They could give a warrior some ranged options without necessarily having to spec in archery, and give Rangers something with a high damage output without having to use poison or sneak attacks. I think it'd be a good idea.

I have chainmail underwear and it is comfortable.
Was it ever explained what happened to crossbows in-game? Did the Empire just stop producing them?
Was it ever explained what happened to crossbows in-game? Did the Empire just stop producing them?
Maybe someone achieved CHIM and wished them away so his armies could win battles, which is why nobody remembers how to build them.
The first explanation is ALWAYS CHIM.
No she is marked as essential.
Is there any point at which she isn't essential?

CHIM just makes my head hurt. Actually maybe something about CHIM could be put in the OP?

Morrowind bought all of them and stuffed then in Vvanderfell.

Chinese manufacturing is too risky nowadays.

Play a bit with Vanilla before you add anything too big is all I'd have to say.
I don't understand why there aren't simple firearms

To be honest crossbows should be more common than bows, at least in the military and guard (but probably not so much among civilians.) Bows, especially high draw ones, take years to train with before one can become a really good archer. One of the reasons crossbows were so popular in the middle ages was because they took very little time to become proficient with. I think one good way to handle crossbows would be to give them a fairly high reload time (with like a 15 crossbow skill, say 7 seconds; with a skill of between 30-50, maybe 5, and then at the highest levels 3 seconds) and a somewhat lower damage compared to bows. The advantage they would have is, like you said, being able to go through most armour with ease. So while a bow shot against a guy wearing just a shirt is going to be more effective than a crossbow shot, if the guy is wearing steel plate than the crossbow is going to be vastly more desirable.
In addition to crossbows, I think spears would be pretty cool.
What even IS CHIM. Every time it comes up, people just say "CHIM IS A METAPHYSICAL CONCEPT THAT EVEN I DO NOT UNDERSTAND FULLY"
Is it an acronym? A God? A Philosophy?
It's a prime cut of What the Fuck is what it is.
I believe the basic idea is that the universe as it's known is just a dream (not sure whether that includes the gods or what), and that once you come to terms with this you either A) accept that you don't truly exist and as you're little more than the brainwaves of some asshat, this is equivalent to willful amnesia, or B) defiantly state that you do exist and become your own entity, essentially making you a god. However, B) is a double-edged sword, since reaching that stage requires you become incredibly nihilistic; essentially, you have all the power in the universe, and no reason to use it.
So I think that's CHIM in a nutshell. Though I still have no idea what it stands for.
I don't understand why there aren't simple firearms
Because a simple firearm (i.e a hand cannon) requires a team of two to achieve at best three shots per minute and is incredibly bulky. All early firearms would be pretty much useless in game due to the time it took to reload them and the fact that you have as much of a chance of hitting something ten feet to the side of what you were aiming at as you had of hitting what you were actually aiming at. Flintlocks and wheel locks aren't simple, so they're out.
Also I feel like magic would somehow make firearms redundant, although I don't know how.
I like to keep my firearms and games with swords and magic separate.
I think that in the world of skyrim nobody would feel that firearms were at all useful compared to magic and thus not bother developing that kind of technology.
Yeah that's sorta what I was thinking.
I personally think guns and crossbows would be balanced if you weren't allowed to just carry thousands of ammo up your ass.
