Ulfric Stormcloak segregates the Dark Elves in Windhelm under suspicion of them being Imperial spies so yeah it probably wouldn't make much sense to side with the rebellion.

I would imagine a Dunmer is entirely neutral.

if you're in a dungeon, just get his attention and run back through the dungeon to the start, peppering him with arrows, summons or ranged magic

eventually you'll get him stuck on some sort of terrain in which case it's simply a matter of quicksaving, taking a few shots at him, quicksaving, shoot, repeat

if you don't have a bow or any ranged magic you now know why non-hardcore-pures always bring a bow or ranged magic

Well the Nords have always had a historic grudge against the Dunmer. Also the orthodox Dunmer aren't to keen of the Empire either, but if you were to pick a side, it would probably be the Empire.

In actual fact, I let both my parents play Skyrim, and my dad couldn't grasp the idea of moving the mouse and pressing the WASD keys at the same time, and my mother couldn't stand the idea of killing somebody.

my 9 year old brother loves the game a lot though.

Both my parents play Skyrim. My dad's on his second character and finding quests he hadn't the first time around. My 7 year old sister also likes to play and rob/kill everyone.
