Boy, I just got invited to the beta and I can already tell I'm gonna get yelled at. I've never played Tribes before but I've always wanted to, so I was pretty happy that I got invited to the beta. I guess I'll dink around in the training until I'm used to how the game plays before I actually try playing it against people.
Just play as well as you can and don't take it too seriously. No one really cares about pub games except tryhards.
The only thing I'd avoid doing is llama capping. If your team has a designated capper let him do it, but if you want to cap make sure you practice some routes in training before you do it on live servers.
I really enjoy this game but it takes ages to unlock new classes without buying gold or VIP, I guess that's what you get for Free-To-Play...
Well it's balanced out by the fact that you can pay $40 and get all the classes which is less than the cost of a full game anyway. I'm going to get the VIP pack either today or tomorrow for $30 then buy the classes I can't get with that using tokens.
i havent experienced any elitist people or any arguing at all
all i ever hear is people spamming shazbot

The quick voice commands in Tribes have long been one of my favorite things about the series.
The amount of people who believe that the ranger is OP when compared to the soldier are ridicolous. Essentially their argument comes back to "for a secondary weapon" in regards to the thumper.
Then they will go off on a tangant and say how the spinfusor should, without a doubt, the best weapon in the game.
This game is awesome.
And the community ingame seems really old school and friendly, it's nostalgic. Although after typing this I just read a bunch of you guys complaining about the community, but generally speaking the EU people I have mingled with(after getting a few levels) were all talkative and friendly.
Also....I have a confession. I saw a teammate flying through the air with the flag, and he was going to cap it under five seconds, but I got the urge to fly up into him and mid-air block him ; he fell to his death.

The two annoying parts of the community, are the very new players who cannot grasp the basic concepts of the game after a few matches, and the people from previous tribes games who are angry that it is not like tribes 1 or 2.
Can't wait for private servers to be implemented so I can exclusively play Katabatic and Bella Omega, even if Bella Omega is kinda shit (but not nearly as bad as Drydock or Crossfire). Someone needs to tell hi-rez that large hills and clear flanking routes are all that are really necessary for a team-based FPS with skiing.

Would anyone of you kind people tell me how big the download is?
I recently recieved a key but I have to deal with a download cap so I'd like to know how much I will have to download before activating the key.
About 1,7GB.
And you have to activate the key before downloading.

Thanks.
And yes I know that ;) That's why I haven't activated it yet.
Ah this game is awesome, I've been waiting for a game like this for ages.
I had a match on Bella Omega today, and it was one-sided as usual.
We both had a really fucking good defense.
We even had two Beowulfs in the generator room.
New patch coming tomorrow, sentinel nerf and new map
Major Highlights
An early version of the Arx Novena Capture the Flag map has been released. This map is in an early state and is not at its final intended art or design quality.
Added a new “Target Practice” mode under the Training menu. This is a variant of the Crossfire map that contains a variety of bots in it. These can be used to practice shooting.
Improved vehicle handling in high-latency situations. This is most noticeable on the Shrike.
Reduced stuttering when skiing/jetting.
By default, damage numbers appear above a players hit when you damage them. This can be turned off through the Settings menu.
The game warm-up period has been extended, in order to allow more users to load into the game prior to match start.
Adjusted flag bounce physics to help prevent punting a flag too far from a large impulse.
Balance Items
Tweaked Sentinel’s BXT1 Rifle to favor more damage at the end of it’s charge time, less in the initial moments. (Same damage when fully charged).
Slightly reduced damage on the Thumper D.
Increased damage on the TCN4 SMG.
Increased fire rate modestly on the Rhino SMG.
Fixed a previous configuration error that was causing the credits earned from the Flag Killer and Flag Return accolades to be more than their intended value.
Additional Items
Some general improvements for performance and stability. Further improvements are planned for future patches.
Fixed issue where a passenger entering a vehicle was not properly getting an indicator that a missile was incoming.
Fixed issue where vehicle drivers and passengers weren’t having the proper animations applied.
Fixed issue with upside-down Beowulf’s being unable to be flipped back over.
Fixed issue with force ejection of Beowulf driver and passenger where they were falling out of the level and dying.
Added bullet impact and flyby sounds for bullet-based projectiles (chaingun, SMGs, ARs, etc).
Added footstep particle systems under players when walking around. This is not visible on yourself when in first-person view.
Fixed gunner caret not showing up when mousing over the Beowulf.
Players are no longer auto-balanced when driving a vehicle.
Fixed switching between first-person and third-person causing loss of audio on some weapons.
Fixed vehicle ammo indicator not showing at times.
Fixed Infiltrator’s SN7 not being able to fire at the maximum rate possible.
Fixed driver and passenger health bars not properly showing on vehicles.
Fixed issue with Doombringer’s Saber Launcher lock-on sound staying on when you have a lock then enter a vehicle.
Fixed response issues with Beowulf turret and gunner positions.
Removed confusing message about entering and exiting a vehicle on vehicle purchase.
All device particle systems now have proper levels of detail. This should help low end systems in high action environments.
So I've got an Beta key, and I'm sick in bed with high fever for 4 days now.. Until when is the beta?
Well Hi-Rez is continuing to prove that they are very good a balancing and updating stuff based on player feedback.
So I've got an Beta key, and I'm sick in bed with high fever for 4 days now.. Until when is the beta?
Forever.
The Beta will someday be the full game, they will just keep adding stuff and tweaking it depending on players feedback.

Don't worry, it will still be around once you get healthy. Besides, the game will be free anyways, so you'll be fine in that matter.
New map is coming.
Can't wait to play it.
Name of the map: Arx Novena.
i think i tried that map back in the alpha and you could launch maps with the .inis
IIRC it's much bigger than what we have right now
The update is out, and the new map is amazing. The damage indicator when you hit someone is really nice as well.
Holy shit just got a key to the beta, I even forgot about this game.
This is gonna be a great weekend.
Any tips for a newb?

In CTF, don't grab the enemy flag, unless the enemy is about to cap, or the flag carrier has died and dropped the enemy flag. There are people who can get to extremely fast speeds to get the enemy flag and cap as quickly as possible, those people are dedicated cappers and rely on the enemy flag being at the stand. Most of the weapons are projectile based, so they wont hit the enemy instantly, and those projectiles will inherit speed from you. So if you're moving to the left when you shoot, the projectile will move left as well. As for killing and skiing, that's mostly something you need to learn on your own, so it comes naturally. You can play on the practice mode to learn skiing, and team deathmatch or rabbit for learning how to hit moving targets.

Got it.
Just had a few rounds of play and I'm loving it, skiing and jet packing across the map feel so badass specially at round start where almost all of your team is skiing together.
Fuck, the servers are lagging a lot right now.

I'm sad now. I loved doing this.
Got a question for people running Tribes Ascend via Steam.
After the latest patch (the one with the new launcher) i can't get Steam to say that im playing the game.
I tried setting the TA exe as the Steam Game launcher but that doesn't work since it needs to run the launcher first.
So i set the launcher, Steam says im playing TA, but after i click play in the launcher the launcher closes and i'll just stay online/away/busy on steam and because of that the overlay won't work, so if someone talks to me on Steam i have to Alt Tab out of the game D:
am i missing something obvious here and/or doing something wrong ?
thx in advance.
Finally got around to playing a game of it. Man it was fun. I suck at it, but it was fun nonetheless.
i have to say, the new map is amazing
the canals are the greatest thing ever, i had a long flag chase that went through like half of the map in it
it's also a great map to play with vehicles and it has by far the base that is the most balanced between offense and defense
