I would rather pay full price and have all the weapons without microtransactions, but I guess this saves me some money for all the other awesome games coming out this year.
Aww shite.
I've been neglecting this thread. [sp]But it's my first Game OP[/sp]
4 more days until I get to play it.
It's supposed to be playable for the first time at Quakecon.
I kinda wish they gave the player models something like wings so they looked more well balanced. It looked nice in Fallen Empires: Legions.
I miss the construction mods for the second one. So much good shit, so much nostalgia.
I kept asking how to disable the music. Now I wish I never had. :(

I loved building giant spheres out of those big panels, and driving around in them with the gravcycle.

Just played a round at Quakecon. It's awesome. Feels a lot like Tribes 2.
Good gods.
I still remember hoppin' on servers to get some frags in. Never happened, but the huge maps usually gave me that feeling of freedom for the first time in a game. Flying through the air fucking shit up was too fun back in the day.
I hope I still get that feeling, games of today spoil me with it's sandboxes.

Wow, that's great.
You sure you can't evaluate your experience? How did the weapons feel, was it balanced, etc etc.

I didn't get to play for very long at all. I'll probably try to play it some more tomorrow, but it felt a lot like tribes 2. Skiing is a little easier, but its still fun. Vehicle handling also felt a lot like Tribes 2. The shrike is still awesome for running people down.
I'll write a better review of it tomorrow, after I play it some more.
20 minute gameplay video from Quakecon:

Yep. that's the Tribes that I know.
Thank God that they scrapped the gameplay style of Tribes: Vengeance, that shit just felt like UT2004 with jetpacks.
Is it just me or did I see hitmarkers in that 20 minute video?
I don't want to sound like an idiot, but when's this game coming out?
I didn't see any specific release date in the trailer, except for 'Rise Again 2011'.

Yep I wasn't seeing things. Not gonna stop me from getting this game, but hitmarkers kind of odd in a Tribes game?
Everyone, sign up for the beta!

Bumping for justice!
Anyone playing today's and tomorrow's beta tests? I Got my hands on alpha version and was practicing skiing offline for a head start! Game feels very smooth so far, I wish they did more marketing though, very few people heard of tribes ascend.
Oh lord, this looks fucking amazing
Just finished the first testing session. Great game, really, really enjoyable, good map designs. Sweet weapons, and kills are very satisfying too! I would get this game if i were you!
I always prefer these sci-fi romps to modern military shooters
Most military shooters are based on same system, whoever sees the opponent first, wins. There really isn't any skill involved when you get close and personal. As in no death-match skills are required because the games are watered down to just speed of reflexes.
More different games have completely different mechanics to counter this. In TF2 for example the weapons do relatively low damage, so even if enemy shot you first, you have a chance to fight back and a lot of the time win if your knowledge of maps, weapons, health locations and other factors are better than the opponents, its not the case of whoever clicked first wins.
In Tribes Ascend too, there is absolutely different aspect to the game, skiing. You can tell how good a player is by just looking at how fast they are travelling. If you got shot by an enemy and are low on health its not certain doom for you, if you can ski faster and run away until you replenish enough health to fight back.
What I am trying to say is that games with bigger skill set and higher skill ceiling are usually more appealing to a lot of players.
Bump. The beta is out pretty soon (technically now since it was up this morning). Still invite only I think but it is very fun.
Here's a video of me being shit :v:

I'd have liked to film a full match but fraps died if I recorded more than 5 minutes :(
There's a "Best Fragshot" (screenshot) contest going on their facebook page, where the picture linked in the comments with the highest number of likes being the winner of some ingame real-money. Could anybody please like my post, as I'd love to win just to mess with them.

Oh what the fuck they deleted my comment.
combat in this game is really awkward. instahit weapons are really hard to use because everyone runs so fast, and explosive/energy weapons are even harder because of this. people always unload all their primary ammo because they cant hit anything, then run around killing people with their secondaries

I only see that in the Rabbit gamemode. Players usually die pretty quick in fights in CTF mode.
