Bump. The beta is out pretty soon (technically now since it was up this morning). Still invite only I think but it is very fun.
Here's a video of me being shit :v:

I'd have liked to film a full match but fraps died if I recorded more than 5 minutes :(
oh god it looks really good, has anyone on FP got in the beta without preording yet?

I got an invite without preordering.

I won a beta key on Gamersbook a few days ago. Played a couple of matches earlier, damn fun game.
I would be playing right now if any EU servers were up...everybody is bloody asleep. :v:
The Beowulf tank is really awesome. I bought one about halfway through a 16v16 round on Katabatic, and I used it for defending the flag. Dopes on the other team kept running straight towards me, so I'd shoot them in the face with the tank cannon, or just run them over. After about 3 minutes, half my team was using the Technician class to help repair me. :v:
Eventually, the enemy team had 2-3 Doombringers watching over our flag, making it so I couldn't use the Beowulf outside, so I drove the tank underground into the generator room. Idiots kept charging into the gen room trying to kill me, but they'd get a tank slug to the face then be run over or crushed into a wall. Managed to get 31 kills in a row without dying.

do kills with vehicles give you xp for whatever class you used to drive it?
do kills with vehicles give you xp for whatever class you used to drive it?
Yes. I switch to the class I need upgrades for before I hop in, and get loads of XP for it.
scrambler class is dope, you can use the flashbangs to conc jump up to 250mp/h, it's pretty ridiculous
Patch notes for upcoming update.
While the dates may move around some based on our internal testing, the next patch to Tribes Ascend is planned toward the end of this coming week (Thursday or Friday).
We are trying to squeeze in as much as we can to this next patch.
While more is currently planned, here are some of the items that have already been coded and are in the testing phase.
Increase speed at which experience points are gained (This was actually hot-fixed into the game through a server restart on Nov 6).
Remove speed cap. Implement various falling, skiing, and jetpack physics changes.
Projectiles inherit more velocity from the shooting player.
Adjusted flag throwing physics to improve throwing in specific directions.
New tooltips for Skills and redesigned layout for the Skills popup window.
Added two-step process for selecting both class perks at the same time.
Different colored chat for same team vs enemy team.
Fix for zoom breaking if zoom was enabled while a player died (this only happened when the
Toggle Zoom feature was enabled).
Fix a number of issues with Settings menu and saving settings.
Help text ignores are now properly saved.
Fixed post process effects persisting to the main menu when disconnected from a match
Fixed hit indicator being on the opposite side for the back side hits.
Fixed mipping issues on many hand models as well as the spinfusor and sniper rifle
Separated input release time and animation time from inventory stations.
Fixed bug with call-in cooldown not behaving properly.
Added the synching of PID-loop state between client/server for Shrike. This should lower server correction and possibly eliminate the “death blossom.”
Allow re-selections of Perks that player has already assigned to a character.
Fixed bugs with wrong popup windows, lost button events and wrong buttons visible in different states.
Store redirects to purchase gold from store when not enough gold on player to purchase classes.
Fixed an issue where context help messages would not disappear if the player died near an object showing help text.
Improved projectile behavior for Raider’s NJ4SMG, Infiltrator’s Nova Colt, and Doombringer’s Chaingun.
Fixed an issue where the health regen effect would cancel the jammer pack effect.
When a player enters an inventory station, they begin health regen immediately.
Support for “Borderless Window” option. Removes border from window (best use is to run at monitor’s full-screen resolution -- allows for faster Alt-Tabbing in aand out of the game).
Brand New Rabbit Map
Several server-side fixes for stability, etc.
No more speed limits, more experience points, more server stability, projectiles inherit more speed from player, and a new rabbit map.

yessss
My only issue with this is that they didn't scrap energy packs. Before you rate box let me explain: I think people should be encouraged to carry all the other fun packs with special and useful purposes. Hell, you could even let EVERYONE get the energy pack boost, just remove them from the game. Too many times I'd be on a team and the whole god damn collection of tards would run energy packs and never repair the base or even each other. No one would use jammers and cover an advance or protect the vehicle they're in... just energy packs. Was annoying as fuck.
Other than that it isn't looking too bad. At the very least, it looks better than Vengeance and Fallen Legion or whatever that shitty F2P game was.
EDIT: Should probably also boost ammo capacity for heavies and get rid of ammo packs too. "Selfish" packs with no team benefit don't really belong in a game like Tribes. But hey just an opinion from an old timer. It's not like I didn't run energy 90% of the time myself heh
i'm pretty ass at this game. anybody have any tips on how not to deplete jetpack fuel so quickly?
im fucking awful at this game
i've discovered that i can do okay playing infiltrator on the snowy map and brute on the grassy one
No invite
:(
i'm pretty ass at this game. anybody have any tips on how not to deplete jetpack fuel so quickly?
Jetpacks right now have very little fuel, so it's hard to not deplete it. Try not to jump unless you're at the highest point on a hill while skiing.

They desperately need to increase token gain, the loadouts are retardedly expensive (it will take me 50 hours at my current rate to get one :suicide:)
it takes like more than 150 games to unlock 1 loadout at the normal gain rate
Use conq nades if you play classes that have them. Really nice boost. If you are going at 120 it will nearly instantly throw you to 200.
Oh damn now I'm all nostalgic, this was a badass few opening seconds...

Edit:
Nuuuugh i just had to throw this in too

If anyone has a beta key, I'd be amazingly appreciative if you gave me said key. My buddy got in the beta, but he never played tribes before. It's a bit fucked up since I submitted my application before him.

I've been a tribes guy for....................................................
Since just after starsiege, I really hope this is like old tribes.
On a note, what are the vehicles and deployables like?
Is it still possible to set up a second base practically?

Ehh... not really. The whole load-outs thing really fucks it up since sensors, turrets etc are spread across classes so it'd take some massive coordination. Inventory station drops are credit purchases though so my hope is they'll do some more of that kind of thing. Vehicles are nice but a little on the pointless side.
In short, it's really not a remake of starsiege or anything, it is a very different game. However, it is worthy of the tribes name, in my opinion at least.
Mods are what made Tribes fun. There were hundreds of mods for Tribes and they were all extremely unique. Giant mech suits made of vehicle and base parts, construction mod where you could build homes and skyscrapers, and even things like portable force fields, blast walls and even nuclear bombs. Nothing will ever top the fun I had in that game.
I've applied for beta test of this game over a year ago, the same week it because available, and it's amazing.

The Wildcat and the Shrike are kinda mediocre at best, but the Beowulf is a rape machine at defending the base on Katabatic.
Signed up for the beta, I loved me some Tribes 2 back when it was at its peak. is there any chance of getting into the beta at this point?
What is the "VIP" status do excactly?
What is the "VIP" status do excactly?
When the game goes gold, there will be "VIP" servers which give you bonus XP and Tokens.
VIP servers ?
im pretty sure VIP members play in normal servers with the other people that decide to play free, it's just that they get more XP and Tokens than the F2P players.
It wouldn't be a smart idea to slash the community in half.
