Even on 2 GB of RAM the only time I should have been seeing the default player model running around everywhere is the Social district, and even then only half of the people there should have had it at most. The proper way to save RAM would be to have the game not consider parts of the map that you don't really have a chance of seeing in great detail any time soon, that right there would probably have saved a good chunk. Also recycling of bits - I'm guessing from the fact that I always had near 2 GB used up when I was loaded in that the game is loading a new copy of EVERY FUCKING MODEL INVOLVED per player/car/whatever, instead of just reusing the instance it has and slapping a different texture on it. That might be something in the base Unreal engine but considering how heavily modified it is they can still fix it.

They tend to be filled with people annoying the shit out of you with "evil" mods.
