A bit late but I'm not sure if you mean the MMO "The old republic" or the singleplayer RPG by the same devs "Knights of the old republic" Either way, IMO both are great and worth buying even if you don't like MMOS SWTOR can feel like a SP game with the story it has for all quests, KOTOR is an amazing game and a must buy.

Looks awesome, is a nuke exchange an actual endgame scenario of some sort or is that nuke just a random encounter?

The nuke is part of the campaign mission, I presume I'll have to clean it up sooner or later into the mission.
I have no idea if random nukes can be part of an island during a continuous game or a single (non-campaign) mission, though I do presume there will be disasters like oil spills or tornadoes.
And I have no idea if you can make nukes to bomb other player's cities, I'm assuming not.
