i think the tunnel man only starts coming the 2nd time you get to a new level
Ah alright. Also, I threw a rock randomly into the air, the rock activated an arrow trap, the arrow hit me in the face, and then the rock returned to finish me off. :( [editline]9th July 2012[/editline]
I came in here thinking Spelunky - Welcome to die was somehow a sperm game, with Spelunky being a slang for sperm and 'Welcome to die' meaning that we are welcoming (ejaculating) the sperm to die (ejaculating into a tissue). In other words sperm is released into the world to only be put onto tissues and not into eggs. Nevertheless, this looks much better and more interesting.
What the fuck?

"Very good chance of seeing this new version of the game on PC at some point, but no definite date of release. Won't be this year." So new version on PC in 2013.
BEE'S HATE RUSHING WATER I-ITS LIKE IN THEIR HANDBOOK
All this and he only made 2 episodes so far. Looking forward for more :v:
I notice there's an option to "Download Content" on the main menu... I wonder if he's got any DLC planned. He should totally turn Tastes Like Spelunky into an official mode and sell it as DLC. I'd buy it. :v:

I just put it there just in case." So uh, maybe :v:?
So he said that, and the PC version wont be out for another year.. How did he make the first one to begin with O.o
With game maker, it was just a small project, and he was done with it. Microsoft approached him asking him to make a 360 version, and he agreed. He got a dev kit and made a actual not shoddy version (game wise) of it with updated graphics. The original has plenty of bugs he couldn't fix or things he couldn't change because, ya know, game maker, so the XBLA version is his "perfect" version.
Hey, I wouldn't call the original shoddy. I still think it feels better than the XBLA release in some ways.
Hey, I wouldn't call the original shoddy. I still think it feels better than the XBLA release in some ways.
Yeah wasn't sure of the right word for it, I meant in all the things in the engine that he couldn't smooth over like the Deadzone.
Also I think releasing on XBLA (first) was a terrible idea. It alienates anyone that doesn't have an Xbox, and also prevents the game from changing after it's been released. Microsoft's policies basically prevent developers from substantially updating or changing a game after it's been released, so I doubt we'll see much ongoing support, whether Derek wants to support it or not. Anyways I unlocked Meat Boy earlier. Cute. I hope when/if it hits PC, he adds characters with distinct traits, a la Binding of Isaac or Tunnel Man from the PC release. Oh and deathmatch is actually more fun than I thought it'd be. I played to ten wins with the AI to get the avatar award and figured I'd never go back, but I tried it with some friends today, and it's actually a lot of fun in a Super-Smash-Bros kind of way.
Yeah wasn't sure of the right word for it, I meant in all the things in the engine that he couldn't smooth over like the Deadzone.
Yeah, it's very flawed. There's also all the annoying glitchy deaths that happen, mostly from inaccurate explosion hitboxes or being crushed by things that shouldn't be crushing you.

Also he was paid to make it for the xbox first, so while it's kind of unfortunate most have to wait for it, it's not like he could of taken the money and ran :v: (It doesn't make the wait any harder though that's for sure.) I wanna fight the new final-final boss already!
Ha ha, holy shit, browsing various forums and comment threads I see so many people complaining about the Ghost. People are missing the point so hard. It be like insisting NetHack have an option to turn off hunger. (Also who spends more than 2:30 in a single level anyways? Have these people not even heard of the run button or something?!)
I'd imagine co-op is pretty fun, the whole idea of working as a team (or screwing eachother over for money) as you explore a giant-ass cave sounds pretty appealing to me
Except the camera only focuses on one person, making it more or less difficult and frustrating as opposed to fun. But the singleplayer mode is fun and many hours will be wasted, and Deathmatch is when hilarity ensues. I mean, clearly you are not a human being if this was your first inclination. I bet you are an alien that studies human biology.
I love Spelunky even though it's hard as fuck and I tend to be wasteful with my ropes and bombs.
Getting the key from the mines to the end of the ice caves is just too damn hard.
Getting the key from the mines to the end of the ice caves is just too damn hard.
Pretend its an Idol. That you find at the start of every level. And have to carry with you as the held item.
Seems the AI can set off the shopkeepers as I had one aggro on me from being spat on by those blue snakes... edit: Holy crap Ive gotten the key to tunnel man, my tip to anyone trying is to get the compass, that way in the ice caves just go straight to the exit.
Pretend its an Idol. That you find at the start of every level. And have to carry with you as the held item.
Thanks dude this actually helped.
I'd imagine you basically NEED the Compass, and, ideally, either a Cape or Jetpack to deliver that key.
Bumping this ancient thread because Spelunky releases tomorrow on Steam also on gog.com for those who want drm-free. I'm mega hype for this game, despite owning it on xbox :v:
Here's a list of differences between Steam, GoG and PSN versions.
Those who haven't been able to play the latest release of Spelunky and are PC gamers, you are very fortunate tomorrow. I've played the Xbox version so much it's extremely fun. I might even pick it up on PC to support the developers and the cool Daily Challenges.
So, it looks like this only has local multiplayer. At least from what I can gather from the GoG page and Steam page, what's up with that? Why isn't there any online multiplayer?
Already out on GOG, just bought, so hype. I might even buy it on Steam some day for the daily challenges. I mean, I've already bought it twice, what's one more time? :v:

If the game were built with it in mind it'd be way easier, but at this point it's going to be a tough cookie.
Wow, how did this elude me. Damn, all these new games. I'm trying to save up for college. Oh well. Video games I guess.
