One time a monkey stole a bomb from me and it opened up the black market. Talk about sheer luck.
One time two monkeys jumped on me at once. One stole a bomb, and the other knocked me unconscious. Then they jumped on me again while I was lying there.
One time two monkeys jumped on me at once. One stole a bomb, and the other knocked me unconscious. Then they jumped on me again while I was lying there.
The only good thing about monkeys is that they jump on spikes a lot.
One time two monkeys jumped on me at once. One stole a bomb, and the other knocked me unconscious. Then they jumped on me again while I was lying there.
They can't jump on you while you're stunned though.
They can't jump on you while you're stunned though.
Well they got close enough for it to count before I was awake.
I made it to hell! How the fuck am I going to deal with all those fucking vampires they are always on my path. I also died to my nemesis, a Tiki Statue.

I might start putting together a death montage whenever I play Spelunky in the future. If I do this, should I overlay it with music, or just leave the original audio from each playthrough? It would probably be easier to do the second option, but I'd be tempted if I had really fitting music to implement.

Finally got to the city of gold after a million tries, looking forward to getting the golden monk. Die to a tiki trap immediately.

To make it even better you can close to the end make it show 2 deaths at the same time, then 4, then 8, then 16, then 32, then 64 before it ends. Or you can just record some deaths and add random music, guess that works too.
Making the whole thing sync to the music sounds like it could take out some of the fun though. Like, sometimes a death clip needs to be 15-20 seconds long to show all the circumstances that drew together to make it happen. I'd hate to unnecessarily lengthen or shorten a funny moment for the sake of hitting a musical cue. The idea is more about showing off the stupid decisions I make, and there being some humor in the deaths, rather than just showing a massive wave of deaths happening. I should confess, I did this once a few years ago with the original Spelunky, and it was overlaid with music. The only problem was that after like 2-3 videos, I ran out of funny/fitting songs, and just started putting in music that I liked at the time. I'm worried that that would happen again. There is one moment in this video that I purposely made to sync with the song, but just that one moment took me a while of deciding where to lengthen and shorten clips. Another shortcoming of the video, I think, is that in addition to featuring deaths of myself and the damsels, it features a lot of moments that I thought were really skillful kills. General shit I was really proud of. There were also some "fake-out" clips, where it looks like I'm going to die, but I make it out at the last second. But these videos were also pretty much my very first time playing the game, so I was really bad at it in general. The video series ends when I beat Olmec for the first time. My deaths today would be slightly more informed, since I've done that many times now. Now the focus can be on getting through hell.

Giant spiders are easy to kill most of the time, just throw a bomb into the web, or stick them if you already have glue.
What program do you use? I can't find one that doesn't cause horrible lag.
You mean for recording? I just use Fraps. On the freeware version I used Camstudio though, because Fraps did weird things to the resolution. It might be hardware-related though. Fraps used to make most of my games perform horribly, but I've tried it again after a bunch of hardware upgrades and it's been a lot more usable.
What program do you use? I can't find one that doesn't cause horrible lag.
I can suggest that you try out the Mirillis Action! demo. Aside from it breaking steam overlay half the time, it's one of the best recording software I've ever used.
ive had a really good run fail because i fucked up the bomb throw leaving me with 1 hp
There is literally no way to startle a big spider on even ground if you crouch and then drop the bomb, even if it falls down, it simply can't hit the spider, but it can hit the web. So if you are both on flat ground, just crouch and drop a bomb somewhere.

I'm working on a site that will provide a load of stats on the Daily Challenge leaderboards, like the average depth people reach each day, percent that die on each level, et cetera. I'll also keep track of how each player performs over time, and give some graphs to show if they're improving or not. Does anyone have any suggestions of other stats they would like? To test the tech, here's the top 25 for today's daily, updated every 5 minutes: http://www.spelunkyexplorers.com/test
Also, this shows where people are dying in today's challenge: http://www.spelunkyexplorers.com/adnzzzzZ The second column is the percentage chance of dying on that level (of the people who made it that far, the percent that didn't make it any further), and the last is the percent of people who died on that level.
It would be cool if after playing a daily challenge, you got to see overviews of the stages with heatmaps of where people died.
It would be cool if after playing a daily challenge, you got to see overviews of the stages with heatmaps of where people died.
That would be cool and all, but say you have two accounts, or someone posts them online: That'd be a little cheaty. I'd say do the heatmaps after the daily ends; no cheating allowed, then.
I've got the max and average score for each level now too (same link as above).
Reddit thread, if anyone wants to see my plans in detail: http://www.reddit.com/r/spelunky/comments/1lwwbe/building_a_daily_challenge_stats_site_what_would/
Has anyone seen the mini spiders? Only seen them once, came out of a big spider. You can pick them up like rats and things.
