So conflicted. Want to get this now, but the PS3/Vita version comes out in another month I believe. Debating if I'll just end up getting both versions.
I'd get the PC version for Daily Challenges, as well as modding being possible (hopefully). If you have a VITA that'd be cool too though, a portable Spelunky would be sweet as hell. I'd end up getting both.
Yeah if you can afford it, getting both sounds like a lot of fun.
Yeah, I just got the PC version, and will definitely be purchasing the Vita version when it releases. And I was wrong, PS3/Vita version is releasing sometime in August. Probably has to go through Sony's approval process. EDIT: For the Playstation version from the Spelunky site. $15 - Cross-Play and Cross-Buy - The Vita fits in your pocket, yo - On Vita, you can move freely in co-op (on other platforms players have to stay on the same screen) Having not played the game yet, that last point sounds pretty sweet.
If the developer adds online multiplayer; holy shit. This game will easily give me 1000+ hours.

And since they're managing to make multiplayer work across multiple Vita consoles, they should realistically be able to do some degree of non-local multiplayer. It'd make the PC version vastly superior if they manage to get that underway.
I've been killed so many times by items bouncing off of walls and then hitting me. :'(
I've been killed so many times by items bouncing off of walls and then hitting me. :'(
I somehow managed to hit myself with a rock. Not even bouncing off of anything. I jumped and threw it, then it instantly hit me.
so i'm replacing most of the music with the ost from the binding of isaac because danny baranowsky is the best imagine fighting yama to this http://dbsoundworks.bandcamp.com/track/my-innermost-apocalypse
With the original Spelunky I replaced the tracks with the La-Mulana OST. The mines was Fearless challenger Jungle was Mr. Explorer ice area was Awaking and I can't recall what I had for the temple area but... yeah :v: I kinda wanna do the same to the new Spelunky using the remastered La Mulana tracks
When I set the Damsel as a Pug it's my duty to escort to safety. Never a sacrifice or death. When the Damsel is a girl, then she can be sacrificed.

Motherfucker. I was playing today's Daily Challenge and found an altar of Kali with a damsel right underneath it. I had gotten the Mattock on the same level so I decided I'd drop it so I could bomb my way down quickly and save some time. I placed it in a small hole and dropped the bomb in with it. I was debating in my head whether the blast would break the mattock when, surprise surprise, it is blown into my face and I get knocked out onto the altar where I'm promptly accepted as a sacrifice.

I was doing so well and Spelunky crashed
What does "A chill runs down your spine! Time to get out of here!" mean?
What does "A chill runs down your spine! Time to get out of here!" mean?
iirc it means that there's an invulnerable wall-phasing ghost with a one hit kill hunting you, so you'd better run for the exit fast as shit. it shows up if you spend too much time on one level

I thought it had to do with the Red table. [editline]10th August 2013[/editline] I'm somewhat disappointed it's a flintlock and not a revolver. I suppose it's just me though. [editline]10th August 2013[/editline] http://spelunky.wikia.com/wiki/The_Walrus_Lady Makes that game completely worth it to me. I love Walruses.
ha haha this is hi-larious :suicide:
http://spelunky.wikia.com/wiki/The_Walrus_Lady Makes that game completely worth it to me. I love Walruses.
If you ever found her you'd love walruses even more.
What does "A chill runs down your spine! Time to get out of here!" mean?
The ghost spawns, he's a slow, big enemy that you can't kill, can't make disappear and that will kill you regarless of your health as soon as he touches you. He also turns any gem (ruby, sapphire, emerald) he passes across into a diamond, raising their value from ~1000 to 5000 each, this is called Ghosting.
Does anyone have any user-made levels?
Does anyone have any user-made levels?
Most of us are playing the steam version, with no level editor (yet). So probably not.
Most of us are playing the steam version, with no level editor (yet). So probably not.
For the original. I want mein Walross.
I just remembered another difference between classic and HD spelunky. Idol traps are triggered when the idol is moved either by being picked up or pushed via whip or explosion. In the classic version you could disarm idol traps by removing specific blocks that exist solely to trigger the traps. In the caves, for example, destroying the 2 blocks that the idol sits on will make it so the boulder won't spawn. Doing that in Spelunky HD will send the boulder at you regardless. Also you can't destroy boulders with bombs anymore. Instead it just sends the boulder on a brand new trajectory. I guess you can still be ballsy by juggling the boulder against a wall with a well-placed/timed bomb, but that doesn't remove the threat, it just sends it in the other direction until it ricochets off the wall again. That's awfully frustrating, the little tricks I learned with Spelunky Classic are rendered obsolete by the new engine. I doubt it was even an intentional change, just a matter of how things were coded. I'm sure that the new traps are based upon the idol's entity instead of the trap setpiece entity that the idol sits on top of.
Another little trick removed in HD is that you can no longer select items to toss on the ground. Instead they streamlined it by making down+S always drop a bomb in front of you, which is annoying because if you have an arrow trap beneath you and nothing to disarm it with, you USED to be able to drop a rope ITEM and then go retrieve it to pick it back up... but you can't do that anymore. :(

Getting to hell is damn hard. Had the perfect run, got all the items, got to olmec, found the door, bombed down, brought olmec over, and he stomped 1 tile too far to the right, so i couldnt go through the door :(
The boulder trap in the mines is so destructive now. Most of the time I don't even pick up the idol. If there's a shop anywhere below where the idol sits, you're pretty much guaranteed to anger the shopkeeper. Plus, it flat-out destroys carry-able items, gold and gems that it runs over, and I think it can even destroy important items like the chest/key. I dunno, there was one level where I couldn't find the chest anywhere after setting off a boulder trap. I just don't think it's worth the risk, when I could instead get all those not-destroyed items, and not anger the shopkeepers by area 1. It's a little ridiculous, because in all the other areas, to get the idol, all you have to do is outsmart the trap. But in the first area (what should be the easiest) grabbing the idol is an unreasonably huge risk.

It's also dumb because the mines' idol only gives 5k compared to subsequent floors.
