Somehow I'd expect this from a developer who's more interested in adding snowmen into his game instead of investing time and effort into developing proper customer support.

You can do helmets, it's just that alpha channel doesn't work, and it never has.

Put that as a separate layer, merge mode "multiply" and then fiddle with the transparency until you get the desired result.
