I usually just run a few thousand blocks away from spawn and/or hide, constantly changing my location, so it doesn't bother me much. I'm also not worried about losing any stuff, so this sounds interesting. This might also attract players who would like some good-old SMP without all those fancy protection and faction stuff.

One million in each direction, perhaps. Huge enough, but not enough for people to travel to 10 million like on 2b2t

Too much, I think. Doubt that anyone would go further than even 100k. Under normal circumstances, that is.
Although if people may get that far, one million seems good enough.
