This is seriously one of the most fun games I've played in a while. Thank you for bringing this to me, Op. I really appreciate it.
Here is a classic video.
The steam version is not gonna be the same game. Literally two different games.
I wouldn't really say that until the Q/A tomorrow. MMG seems like it would slow down the pace of the more towards the older versions, and the RPG will probably be most effectively used as a mortar since there are no vehicles for it too target (so far).
I've compiled some sounds from an ArmA 2 soundmod and put them in AoS! http://www.mediafire.com/?2qz3pbxyxnmb0bp Installation instructions are in there. I love the new sounds, they are a bit more realistic/fuller to me.
Maybe someone should post on /v/ or something? Get this thing going.
Basically the Q/A amounted to this: Classes Levels/Ranks Jagex-hosted servers Likely a new map-making tool Better weapon balance New weapons "Cool music" 1.0 will initially not have modding, later on will be re-added(from what I understood) Mac official version of the game shortly after launch Pickaxe will be coming back Able to run in low-spec computers Game will be rated at +13 No .76 13+ rating is an amazing idea, but Jagex run servers only is fucking terrible. That better be temporary like the modding, or they better have an extensive variety of servers. Otherwise I will be extremely disappointed.
Only Jagex run servers...? I can smell microtransactions/DLCs [editline]7th November 2012[/editline] https://twitter.com/AoSGame/status/265211541085884417 or maybe not Gamemode DLCs and such are still possible, I suppose.
God damn, stop being so cynical and/or jumping to conclusions. Almost as annoying as microtransactions/DLCs themselves.
is there any hope left in this game?
damnit /v/ has done a .52 server before where they just did the whole thing by themselves we need to figure this shit out
Remember, /v/ can sometimes pull miracles out of their collective arse, noone really knows how they do it. And on a side note: [editline]Not a real edit or automerge, fuck all ya'll[/editline]
Here is a classic video.
I've got to stop clicking so many related videos, somehow, from that, I found myself listening to Prince Ali.
Only Jagex run servers...?
I hope that this isn't so.
I think this game could use some more popularity with a better crowd. There's just a shit ton of hackers though...
Given how this game is being developed i'm going to hope they add vehicles and stuff, it's gone far beyond WW1 simulator at this stage - why would you build a bunker if you are going to have the roof blown off in two seconds by someone with a bazooka? I'm also hoping to see certain new blocks appear in the game such as barbed wire and sandbags each having different properties and resistances to damage from weapons in the game to hopefully stem the tide of people rushing in with rifles and spawn camping endlessly.
why would you build a bunker if you are going to have the roof blown off in two seconds by someone with a bazooka?
Yeah, this is the current approach. Ace of Spades is not about building anymore, it's just Call of Duty: Block Ops with destructible environment for kids on their grandma's computers unable to run CoD's shit graphics.

Concerns: -The model for the pick is way to blocky. We get it, the game is has a blocky atmosphere, no need to literally rub it in our faces -The destruction looks ok but there are way to many blocks. If anything the ratio for blocks shown should be lower. -Lighting engine is too light. The game appears to have lost it's gritty look. Also, whats up with the sunset like shadows? Unless there is a day/night cycle having those on permanently will look terrible. -That map doesn't look very great. I assume it's planned to be an official one, but sheer walls are a no no in map making, most players look at them and are simply too lazy to do stuff about them. I like: -That blocks don't simply fade away like was originally planned in OpenGL -Weapon models look much better without the shading they had in the older OpenGL Honestly the best thing they can do now is just make the game more gritty. Right now it looks like an over-cartoonish kids game.
Yes. For once I urge that AoS has a very drab and "brown" atmosphere (the sort of thing I hate in every modern shooter, ever), because it simply WORKS. There's nothing like blasting "The Trooper" while you run over a crater-filled No Man's Land as bullets whip by your face. I do not want WW1 Minecraft with guns. I do want WW1. This game should NOT be cute, should NOT be stylized in the sense that TF2 is (or that free Battlefield game). It should NOT be tongue-in-cheek, nor should it be in the same fashion of Worms. It should be it's own style, which AoS had going for it in... Spades. :smug:
.75 download seems to be broken, anyone have another link?

Well you know thats what happens when companies like Jagex get their hands on games. You can't expect them to do any less.
oh my god what the fuck happened to this game [editline]16th November 2012[/editline] that picture better be some crappy joke
the last time i played this game, a group of friends and i destroyed the bridge in that major bridge battle map. took us an hour under hailing fire and grenades, but we did it.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/11/20/hands-on-ace-of-spades Looks pretty.
Oh look, they literally said it looks like Worms.

But seriously, this game is changing in the wrong direction. I hope it really is not as bad as everyone thinks it will be
They are having a contest to "recreate" and older map for the final version of the game. I submitted the default map, vote for it! It may be the only chance to get it into the final game! http://www.aceofspades.com/forums/showthread.php?1038-Old-School-Map-Competition Edit: Needs 2 more votes or we won't make it too the next round!
Drill Launcher. Welp, abandon ship. The forecast is 90% chance of terrible game. More people will be playing the .76 DEMO than will ever play the insofar extremely bad steam version as outlined in the IGN article.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/11/20/ace-of-spades-minecraft-meets-team-fortress Here's the article. I don't really get why they needed classes. All we needed was a spade, a pickaxe, and a rifle. If you wanted to kill people, you took out your rifle and shot them in the head. If you wanted to build a temporary base you quickly built it out of blocks (pre-made buildings now wtf). If you wanted to dig underneath them you dug out a tunnel with spade and killed them with rifle. It was simple and it worked. But now when you want to build you have to go engineer and give up any hopes at having fun another way.
Apparently the drill gun carves a 3x3 hole for about 50 blocks. That's stupid. [editline]23rd November 2012[/editline] I really hope the soldier doesn't have an actual minigun and that the journalists just don't know their terminology.
