- Doesn't have nice looking streams. Skyrim has nice looking streams and anyone with a brain knows that bethesda are as a whole rather incompetent. i want STREAMS!!!
not the engine's fault
- textures blend by.. fading into eachother? It doesn't look that great.

- Brushes- whilst good for people who can't model (me) are very flat (and also aren't destructible) Tesselation and height maps for textures would do wonders for source's low level of geometry in most areas.
engines can't compensate for your apparent inability to make nice looking things
Animations aren't perfect.
sound could be better. Also.. physics sounds. We need sounds for various things flying through the air, Every angle of collision for every material (and the appropriate marks too)
cool but not the engine's fault, and do you really feel the need to pay attention to every angle of collision for every material
I don't like that mellee weapons in source are essentialy hitscan weapons with short range. Gameplay with all mellee weapons would be much more fun if they were physics based (and hits would be more satisfying if the opponent reacted believably to the impact)
like pretty much every other game? sounds needlessly complicated for something that isn't that noticeable
Lights don't go volumetric in fog.
ok that's valid i guess
we can't go into space.
space in every other game is a enclosed space that happens to have a starry skybox
you can do that in source too!!
BRING ON THE DUMBS!!
But realy.. this is just a few opinions on what source isn't fantastic at or could improve upon. It's like.. my opinion, man.
will do
Employee of Germany's GamesOne tweeted these images, they're supposedly HL3. If that's the case it's likely Source 2.

Guys... It's just images of a wall and some stair rails. come on!?
Looks like there is a very apparent skybox in the furthest right picture using one of HL2's skyboxes. Also my friend slayer pointed out it looks like water down below.
Like this one maybe?:

Or this one?:

I'd believe if it was Source 2. I highly, highly doubt that it was HL3.
or maybe it's a real life picture :-0
Guys... It's just images of a wall and some stair rails. come on!?
Actually, they're images of images of a wall, some stairs, rails, and some boards.
His tweet said "Spiel auf der gamescom gesehen. Monitor abfotografiert. Kann nicht warten bis NDA fällt. Risiko!! Blablabla, Mr Fr33man! Tell your friends!", so he at least knows a bit about HL.
Found this in my steamapps folder

I don't know if it's been posted before
Looks like a placeholder. I scanned through the files and they date back to HL2. It's apparent in their config file located here:
cl_hudenable 0
developer 0
disp_modlimit_up 512
r_anamorphic 1
snd_surround 1
rem remember to do this in your regular config!!!!
rem bind f2 "exec e3demo.cfg"
cl_mouseenable 0
rem unbind these in config.cfg!!!
rem unbind uparrow
rem unbind downarrow
rem unbind leftarrow
rem unbind leftarrow
rem unbind a
rem unbind s
rem unbind d
rem unbind w
startdemos e3_hl2logo
Is it for every game folder like this or is there a thing under addons for all games where it has tons of card games/older games in the folder?

You can't break things. In half life the Combine energy ball is not very destructive in that it bounces off wood walls and can't burn through anything. The pulse weapons have very nice tracers but never any big impacts to depict their power. The energy flechetes are less devastating and there's little chance for you to fight in a farmhouse as the walls, floor and ceiling crumble.
While I'd agree it would be pretty cool, its not really doable in current games, I would love to see it done BETTER though; not the whole enviornment blowing apart, but lights being shattered, glass melting / breaking, the small stuff that makes a difference.
That you build small levels but can never build huge worlds. You can't procedurally generate a forest or the rest of a city. You have to split your wilderness areas up. Just look at episode 2's outdoor scenes.. the line above the cliffs are obviously a flat texture and you get loading screens each time you enter a strategically placed bottleneck. You couldn't make a massive open world game like Morrowind or a massive combat game like Battlefield or Planetside.
Sure, But I'd only like it if it was done the same way BF3 did it, and that I had full control over the procedural generation.
-No face generator or body generator or item generator or personality randomiser or voice changer. Why is this a problem for a company that makes mostly fps games? Well...
I'd love to see this as-well, but as much control as possible over it, for each map/mapset.
- It would be nice to have cowardly opponents or foolhardy opponents with different skills. It would also be nice to have programing slightly change their voices so that they don't all have the same voice.
Not randomly, its much better if this is planned out by a level designer / artist, or writer.
- although i wouldn't consider half life realistic (teleportation... swimming around in pools of radioactive waste... ) it would be good to see some Ar2's without ball launchers or with a mounted torch.. or pistols with silencers dual wielded by slender transhuman ladies. But id also like to see rebels with different armours and clothes. Unbuttoned citizen jackets over the standard armour, repurposed and redecorated combine/cp armour and stolen shoes. Different Ammo Pouches for different characters and different places to put weapons when not in use.
Sure, It'd be nice to have citizen variation.

Well, Skyrim's streams aren't that good, they're really flat and low res; Something like Crysis would be welcomed though (A shader that can tessilate the waters at real-time, to create waves and the such)

All we need are some more fancy shaders and the ability to pick them per-surface if needed.
And better displacement / geometry support.
Animations aren't perfect.
Maybe the early / HL2 ones, but after that VALVe got REALLY good with animations; see TF2 meet the(s) and Portal 2.
Sure, I'd love to see them fix Source's botched sound system, and maybe add more and diverse sounds.

If it's real, then backwards compatbility for older materials/models/maps confirmed!
Think about it: they won't have to rebuild the maps of hl2 and everything, they just port hl2 to the new codebase then you can play hl2 or hl:source in source2!! Half-Life 2: Source, Half-Life: Source: Source 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 2: Source 2

So out of 20 blurry blue pixels, you can affirm it's a game skybox and not a real sky?
Now that we know that these were fake (real pictures on a screen of a church or whatever), this is even funnier.

I said it looks like. And if you ever mapped for any amount of time you'd see the similarities in the two.

The only similarity is that it's a similar shade of blue. Do you think of dev textures every time you see an orange bit in a picture?

I mapped and I'm even an indie dev, but I still can't see any similarity between the top and bottom image, beside they are both blue, like any sky on earth.

Otherwise, it could be the skybox of any game in the world, or it could even be a blue boat right behind, or even the water, an aquarium, anything. There is no reason for thinking right away "ZOMG ITS HL2 SKYBOX".

Why do you keep mentioning your an indie dev, what difference does that even make?
"Because I'm an indie dev and all my opinions are completely validated in saying so. (especially skybox analysis)"

This is just to emphasize the fact that I know what I'm talking about and I'm not just a random guy saying facts about skyboxes.
But I forgot I already said this in that thread, so it makes me bad now. I'll walk on a Lego.
