NS2 went with there own engine, and dropped Source. Incase you were implying that they use Source.
I was not, I'm just saying I would like an effect similar to their's.
Sorry that Im going to go of subject but I have a theory regarding how HL3 and Source 2 to would be announced and released, using hl2's announcement and release stragagy as a base (which was a decade ago), I have come up with the following events:
1) Half Life 3 will be announced at Q2-Q3 2013
2) Half Life 3 will be on steam early access for around £21.99 in early 2014 (maybe)
3) Finally, the final version of HL3 will be released during the end of 2014 to early 2015
This is what I think it is going to playout!

yeah, why do people think there's always got to be an open beta for shit now?
It would be cool to see an open beta of Half life 3 deathmatch with limited maps and weapons though...
or something like The Lost Coast that could let them see if they missed anything in terms of optimization to avoid the Crysis 3 rope clusterfuck.
Things didn't go well last people played a Half-Life beta.
At least they should show a tech demo you can download and try out.
Lost coast styled tech demo of source² would be cool.
I wouldn't like a hl3 deathmatch beta, it would just spoil a lot of stuff, even if it has nothing to do with the story.
Such as weapons, characters (that players play as) and so on.
I honestly wouldn't mind source² tournament. (it doesn't even have to be hl3 themed)
Just to show off the engine.
They could release the next Day of Defeat on it first as a small game. Did DoD:S used to be their tech demo go-to game? I seem to remember phong (and HDR?) being premiered on that.

I remember there was a sound thing they showed off with that, but I can't remember them using it ever again, or they were just silent about it.
I thought HDR was from lost coast?
Didn't Day of Defeat Source have some sort of different displacement texture blending?
Didn't Day of Defeat Source have some sort of different displacement texture blending?
DoD:S was also the first to be featured in SFM.
I wouldn't mind an open beta simply because play-testers always make decisions that sadden me.

(steam link because I spent 20 minutes trying to find it on youtube and I can't)
Sometimes I could explode how stupid playtesters at Valve are.
It's like they always need someone to tell them where they should go, or what they should do, simply because they can't think of it.
This video came to my mind.

Think about that ep2 final battle shown in that video.
-Striders trying to destroy the rocket (Basically it means you have time limit)
-Hunters preventing you to destroy them
-Gunships shooting you all the time
-Combine soldiers shooting you from every possible direction
Isn't that bit too much?

Striders try and destroy the rocket in the final version too?
Hunters attack you as well near the striders as well...

But final version doesn't have gunships nor combine soldiers.

There are things they could have done to prevent this. With some heavy scripting, they could have easily made Gunships target npc_bullseye's off screen so it appears that they're fighting. Also, in the leak npc_citizens were able to steer rockets around the gunship and hit them from the back, this would have been great to see being done in this battle. Soldiers on the other hand could either prioritize Rebels over the Player, or replace some of the Hunters in escorting the Striders.
Something to understand about this: it's not like the playtesters that get something changed in beta break down and stop functioning because of their simple minds. They're probably just regular people who play games like you or I. For the most part, they were observations that Valve made while someone played through the game. It's what the playtesters did, not what they said.
There have been many, many occasions in games where you've rammed your head into something repeatedly, failing to see the solution or to get past a certain snag. As long as you can get past it and keep going, all the failed attempts usually get forgotten. You don't want to focus on those little parts, but Valve does. In the case of Episode 2 (and Portal 2), they did this focus testing to try and streamline the games as much as possible, trying to sand over all the little bumps that you normally don't pay attention to, in order to create this smooth experience.
It bugs me quite a lot when someone attacks the playtesters mentioned in the commentaries. On the SPUF especially, people were just bitching about "WOW THOSE PLAYTESTERS ARE SO DUMB I COULD GET PAST THAT", when the vast majority of those complaining would probably get caught up on the same things, even though they wouldn't be aware of it. Put the blame on Valve for paying attention to those little nitpicks, not on the average player naturally doing them.

That video is still really awesome, it probably would've been too much to deal with at once though. I hope to see something large scale in ep3 though

If anything, it should probably be built up, with combat between groups of single types of enemies, then having a later battle where Freeman's finally taking the evolution from Doom to its logical conclusion.
...not necessarily in the same mold, of course.

lets hope that "something" won't be leaked, like HL2 was

Pretty sure valve learned their lesson from that, they were also a lot less rich of a company and they have probably massively boosted their security measures since then.
Can't wait for source 2 though, here's hoping it includes some truly revolutionary things other than just better graphics.
Hope valve just releases Half Life 3 with no warning or anything. And just goes BAM, front page of Steam. With a message from Gabe saying: How do you like them nuts?
Probably going to get down ratings for this but... Be nice if it released same time as Call of duty/battlefield 4. Just so we can see Half life 3 destroy the sales counts and be crowned FPS of the year, Highest sales count of 2013, biggest selling entertainment title ever. Just my take on when it be cool for half life 3 to release, as a sort of a tribute to one of the games that Made first person shooters.

lol
There's no way a game released on a whim would out-sell Call of Duty, even if it's Half Life 3.

That part i meant after advertisments and announcments months before. It obviously would not out sell Call of duty on a sudden unnanounced release.

Those tweets are about Interceptor Entertainment working with Valve to get their new game on Steam.
Idiots all over the internet have been linking it to Half-Life news but it is not related in any way.
