Definitely, Source is well-known for being almost impossible to modify...
Not sure where you heard that, but Source is pretty much one of the most extensible engines, hell, even as just a modder you get a fair level of C++ access, which is very different to most other engines like UDK and Unity, the only other engine to give such access that I can think of is CryEngine. In addition Source is very modular and so some parts can be changed, whilst leaving the others entirely. If you look on the Valve dev wiki for example you'll see many different versions of BSP, modified to suit certain games...

Clearly you've never played Zeno Clash.
e; or heck look at this, it's impressive on a technical level even if you give no shits about the subject:

This is the Video Game portion of the forums, don't come in here expecting facts.
I thought gabe already confirmed that a new engine was in development in that video where 4-chan visited valve on gabes birthday

No wait old news nevermind

Earth's Special Forces is running on HL1/GoldSrc engine, not Source. From what I gather, GoldSrc is generally considered easier to work with than Source. fwiw...
edited for clarity

Alright then, what about Vindictus? It's an MMORPG which uses Source.
Gameplay here:
Alright then, what about Vindictus?
What about it? Are you proffering it as an example of the technical capabilities of Source? Keep in mind Vindictus was produced by Nexon, an experienced Korean development company.
Just because games like Zeno Clash and Vindictus were made does not disprove the generally accepted viewpoint that the current Source engine is difficult to work with.
Ask the Dear Esther devs, or the Zeno Clash devs who switched to Unreal for Zeno Clash 2 because Source was prohibitively expensive in terms of time investment and thus not a good ROI for them.
That would imply that Source 2 is completely rewritten, which is outright false. The only statement about it so far, specifically about source 2, implies that it is just another iteration like valve's been doing from the start.

Shifting to componentized objects's enough to get me excited. But I suppose those programmer's niceties are easy to tick off: I doubt realtime shadows or player models'll ever become first-class citizens; perhaps that's where they'll draw the line.

your entire argument is invalid because titanfall is not a source mod
edit: sorry i thought you were referring to titanfall

Well, considering shadows are yet another of source's weaknesses, I really do wish they work on it.

Lols, I wasn't commenting on Titanfall... my comments were directed to robowurmz and we were discussing Earth's Special Forces - (http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?p=40938029#post40938029)
But anyways back on topic:
imagine the following - Titanfall Steam Workshop & Marketplace. Build, trade, share, buy & sell your own mechs. That could be a very cool thing.

They have been, cs:go is a good step forward in that department.

no worries mate
Titanfall is playing on the microsoft e3 press conference. Looks damn good.
Yeah it looked like they did a lot of improvements on the engine.
graphicly its comparable to the recent call of duty's
Source 1.5 - almost Source 2 but not really there yet. Looks pretty good though.
Looks nice graphically but otherwise it just seems like CoD with mechs. It didn't really show anything special.
Edit: ok better than CoD but nothing really new here.
Source got a pretty good shot in the arm with the addition of deferred rendering and scaleform. I'm not sure if Titanfall is using deferred rendering or just CSM, but it still shows that when pushed, Source can still look great.
Am I the only one who thinks that game looks cool as shit?
Am I the only one who thinks that game looks cool as shit?
Nope, I think it's totally dope. Maybe the first Infinity Ward game worth playing since COD4:MW
Kinda blows that it's multiplayer only though....
-snip-
Couldn't tell it was Source, I hope it's on Steam though if it ends up on PC.
