Mining skillgain feels so damn slow. I'm almost 40 mining, mining rockshard with a 10ql pickaxe and I get a 0.01 tick maybe every minute and I'm using sleep bonus.

Don't mine rock shards at 40 mining and use a high coc pickaxe.

Switch over to iron. You've got the right idea using a low ql pickaxe though. Your mining gains will go much faster. Because tile QL doesn't affect skill gain, avoid mining high ql iron, you will get a lot more 1ql chunks with a pick that low and it's a bit wasteful. Change your pickaxe's ql until you're getting about a 40-50% fail rate (1ql is a fail). Eventually though even a 1ql pickaxe won't be low enough and you have to move to the next ore type.
CoC will help, but unless you have a priest willing to do it free/cheap I wouldn't bother: the frequent repairs needed on a low pick will wear down the enchantment pretty fast.
Also remember that skill gain is based on the time spent doing something, so feel free to chain your mining actions as long as your stamina bar doesn't actually empty. As each action in a chain (before stam regen) takes longer, the longer timers mean you will pull less stuff from the vein but still gain the same amount of skill (btw you will do more dmg to the pick per ore, so remember NOT to do this when your primary goal is the ore, especially to a WoA pick like one of my retarded villagers).
Sorry I keep changing this post, it's all coming back to me slowly. I mined a LOT and happen to know a lot of what gets said is bullshit. Seriously mining rock to 50? I can't believe the wiki still says that.
Cool thanks. Yeah everywhere I've been looking has said rock to 50. I had a feeling that I should be switching to iron because I was getting near 100% full ql ore from an iron vein with one of my better picks.

The QL of the ore also matters, so don't mine on high ql veins. You can check vein QL at 20 prospecting which you can get in an hour or so

I'm living on chaos but i'm on exodus atm. I never stopped playing between any of the invasions, but i did take a break from early june till early december last year
I remember when I used to play this with you guys. Back with Pvt Ryan and Aderrek and shit
Played it so much, when I went outside in IRL I could see tile borders and wanted to dig corners.

It's actually gotten a lot better grind-wise. For example, failing making a plank doesn't destroy a third of the log anymore.

Yeah, invasions went downhill after Minges Tirith II it seemed. Not a whole lot of people joined, although there was always some fun to be had.
It got too serious, I think. The invasions were fun when you could just join up and do whatever. When we started to have actual deeds and projects, and people had to get permission to build a house is kind of when people stopped caring.
If you do a new invasion, you should just have a tiny village deed where people can respawn, and then just let people do whatever they want like in the olden days.
Tried that and failed, a handful of times. People just stopped caring, period.
That's why we stopped trying to organize shit, because it seems like Facepunch's Wurm days are long gone
