Shitty BO1 group stages that eliminated 6 teams right off the bat. Shitty arbitrary games to eliminate 2 more teams for no reason. Shitty prize pool split. Navi isn't $470k better than Liquid or titan, etc. The champ team getting almost 50 percent of the prize pool and bottom 2 or even wild card teams not getting anything.
Yeah, remember last year in the groups when some teams didn't even play each other? And when the lower bracket was BO1 until round 4 so lower bracket teams got knocked out just as quick? If you lost an upper BO3 you were faced with having to play two BO1's or get knocked out. That was a shitty format. Everyone played everyone in the group stages, nothing wrong with that. Prize pool split has always been top heavy for every TI. Bottom teams didn't get anything last year or the year before either, the prize pool was just for 8th place and up so the price split is actually better this year than before.
No idea what you're bitching about it.
When are the finals?
Let's talk about rOtk for a sec.
What a bro he is to BurNIng. Mad respect between the two.
He'll win TI4 for his friend/ex-teammate of two years.

Just because last year's format was utter shit doesn't mean this year's is better. At least every team got to participate last year. Also, a lot of pros spoke out against the top heavy prize pool split. More teams would stay together if the money was split evenly or everybody got something.

Every team did participate this year. More group stage games were played than last year. More teams got paid this year than any other year. I know pros spoke about the top heavy pool. I honestly have no idea what you're trying to complain about.
I think the worst thing about this years was that 3/4 of it wasnt in the stadium (so it didnt get as much publicity, and a lot of people thought that it didnt even matter until teams started getting eliminated), and there where multiple games at the same time, making it hard to track
What sucked about the format was that we got to know one of the grand finalists as early as friday. It was pretty un-hype.
That EG vs VG series should've been a best of five, deciding who goes to the grand finals and who gets third off three games is just dumb, it ended up just being one good game sandwiched between two shitty 15 minute stomps.
that last stomp eg brought on them selves with unbelievably poor decision making

No, they didn't. It's like saying football teams that failed to qualify for the World Cup participated in it.

holy fuck what is the problem
some teams suck in the group stages and need to be punished for it
Either we have a format like this, or we have no group stages, and you will cry and moan about how the brackets were unfair because some of the teams got hard opponents

What is a "good game"? People complain about rat dota and pushing strats but people fucking cheered when Naga Siren was picked an ESL and I thought I was going mad. People complain about the Chinese teams farming for a year and a half before ending a game but we have two of the most aggressive teams in Dota in the grand finals this year, one having the shortest average games at TI. People complain about not enough heroes being picked when every hero but six were picked this year from the group stages into today. People complain last year about seeing too much Natures Prophet, Alchemist, Wisp, Chaos Knight, Puck, and Lone Druid when none of those heroes were heavily features this year except Prophet. Now they complain about too much Skywrath during the group stages, when he wasn't even seen as a competitive pick before TI.
I have no fucking idea what people are whining about sometimes. *drops mic*
The antihype of the Newbee in the finals is a legit problem though

There were multiple games being played last year too. It's the nature of the group stages. Last year they had less time to do them as well. There was almost a full week of them this year.
I like the new format. Last year I got so burned out from TI3 and didn't play after it ended for like 2 months. This year feels more stream lined. My only gripe is the prize pool being so incredibly top heavy. They could easily shave some cash off the top 3 and funnel it to the bottom. 2 teams got jack shit for showing up and half of the teams, once split between the players + manager/coach, get bread crumbs.
I think this might turn into a four year pattern.
TI1 was West vs China where west won.
TI2 was West vs China where China won.
TI3 was West vs West.
TI4 is China vs China.
So that means Na'Vi will win TI5.
A good game doesn't end in 15 fucking minutes.
In the second game both teams had a chance at winning, it was back and forth and exciting to watch, had EG made one mistake they could've ended it 0-2 right there, this is opposed to the first and third games where it was literally just watching a pub stomp.
Game 3 being as short as it was was as much EG's fault as it was Vici playing their lineup. EG could have taken it late and won but they made a lot of mistakes and it cost them the game.

i agree with the format being shit but "damn the last place team wouldnt have disbanded if they got more money for showing up" is kinda silly
Where the fuck was kotl? He seemed like the perfect antipush/stall hero against Vici's line up.
i dont even know what to say about this TI
every team i wanted to win got destroyed because they tried some shitty strat or drafted something beyond fucking retarded
the chinese weren't picking heroes that are unbeatable, its that all the teams refused to acknowledge certain heroes
ignoring Sylar's morphling and letting him free farm the whole game? are you fucking serious?
letting your T2's drop without any good trade, no contesting, just fucking disgraceful, it's like watching a pub
VG aren't at fault, they picked cancer heroes sure, but it doesn't matter, the other teams knew what they should've done and didn't do it
i just wish i could've enjoyed these games more, nothing compares to the hype of TI2 or TI3
man, idk if my tv audio quality is just bad but I can't just stop hearing the inhales of the panelists during the espn2 preview, especially 2gd.

I thank god I didn't go to Seattle this year. Having only eight teams in the finale, plus knowing who gets 1/2nd place first day was such a let down.
I feel that there was more pressure on the final eight this year because of scheduling. They should have given Newbee/EG a break after their upper bracket games were finished and gone to lower bracket. If they couldn't have fit six more games in the first day for the lower bracket, do what you did day two to three where one game is played that night and the other two are tomorrow.
Big letdown by Valve.
The ESPN thing was was really brief and kinda weird. I felt like they needed to do a lot more explaining. What Dota 2 is, who Newbee and Vici Gaming are, who xiao8 and rOtk are, hell, who Gabe was. They skimmed over so much it felt like anyone who was watching it that didn't know what was already going on wouldn't have any better idea. And it's only a half hour timeslot so I'm not saying explain everything about the game or people, but take a little more time to make sure people know what they're watching. E: Oh, and seeing Geoff Keighley made me want to throw up.

- Someone on Dota 2 being on ESPN 2
:v:
Searching ESPN2 on Twitter right now is hilarious!
As someone who was there, I can tell you this year has been the biggest letdown in terms of the teams caliber of play. EG played some of the most questionable dota ever in game 3.
However, from what I can gather, this TI is all about beating NewBee. They are outright villians on all accords. I sat right underneath vici's booth which is next to newbee, and they literally cheered every time mushi or ice died. Im not making shit up, it was like almost everytime. And then in EG, they never cheered or clapped for EG once, the few times I glanced at them. It was very surreal and bizarre, because I didnt really believe all that racist shit but who knows. Maybe it was something else.
Anyways, ive been for VG the entire time, I just didnt want them to go over someone even more under-doggy. Rotk and fy are literally my idols, so seeing them do well makes me happy, but I didnt like that EG seemingly played worse than they could have. Same with DK and same with C9.
I thought the finals were being shown on ESPN 2, but I guess it was just the preview of the finals being shown.
ESPN also airs Poker, Eating, Dart throwing, NASCAR, bowling, and womens basketball.
Dunno why they are bitching about a video game. Sport doesn't have to be athletic, its all about competition.

I don't think it has to be a racist issue, maybe they just don't want to cheer for teams they want to lose
Its probably newbee are assholes and that's it. Either way I still peg them as the winners

Although it does make it look a bit like bad sportsmanship. Most competitions people will still applaud the "enemy team" as its just a courtesy thing. Either way I'm rooting for VG for the finals.
