Personally Sandstorm reminds me of the early 00 era music I'd listen to when playing competitive multiplayer computer games a long time ago. I think it has more to do with some kind of nostalgia parallel with the original Dota than some sandking joke.

[editline]23rd July 2014[/editline] and bigger hero pool.

Mason's hero pool does not fit EG's lineup. He likes to play arteezy heroes. They needed Fear because of the way he plays, but hell if we know if he can even play on the level of the other guys anymore. Universe was the obviously better player the past few days but is it because of experience or pure clutchness? It is weird to think about but if Fear can play on his level and EG stays together, they will win TI5 no doubt.
the only reason I supported Vici over EG is because of fucking Mason
I dunno mason played very well in the group stage.
Why are people hating on mason wtf did he do? Kill y'alls parents?
Im not hating on Mason, I just think something was deeply wrong with him in the main event. Same with Arteezy tbh. It isnt EG's 1 and 2 that ever won them any games to begin with, it has always been ppd zai and universe making space and making plays that won them games, but during the main event you could tell rtz and mason were choking or struggling. Either way, I have always held the opinion that it is the support duo that most NA teams are lacking in and I guess it really shows with EG. All you need is good supports and a semi-consistent offlaner and mid for you to win games a lot. For me, I havent seen the 1 position do anything in this particular meta. That is why teams like Alliance, Navi and iG all failed to come even remotely close to winning this year. This TI's meta is fucking garbage if you are banking a lot into trilanes and hard carries. If your mid isnt like an arteezy, a super or a mu, you were destined to get shitcanned by the deathball. Dendi and Mushi were playmakers, not farmers. So yeah, the meta now calls for consistent 1 position carry plays who can play a variety of heros in the safelane. Mason was stuck playing heros he isnt good with (wtf happened to mirana) and ended up getting trashed against newbee and vici's deathball. It is a shame the diverse meta ended up becoming a 1-trick meta once we got to the grand finals. It was like, newbee are only doing one fucking thing, pick tanky heros not fucking void and shit. I dunno, im not a pro player, but I was hoping for more bristleback, timber and juggernaut. I felt like they were the real heros to play against the deathball, turbo stun kill you until rax is gone until 10 minutes playstyle. All good against the bullshit like brew, SS, DP, Razor, etc. Just what the fuck were people doing? Am I completely oblivious or were they? Being at the event, this was the feelings of a lot of us there, so I dont think I was necessarily alone, but oh well. I hope the new patch brings back 1 position safelane relevance. For now it seems like a shitty role to play since mid is the new farmer.
Can't wait until people complain about next year's meta too.
I liked the meta last year, TI2 meta blew, pre TI4 meta (think MLG Columbus) was sick. There is a distinct lack of build up in the deathball push meta that was utilised by the chinese this year. GG was called if you lost a teamfight. That Game 3 GG from EG was literally the most disgusting things I have ever fucking witnessed in real life. It was 6-1 and Enigma was alive. The cd on respawn at their levels were so low. Why did they give up with 4 cores? I just dont get how you can GG out like that unless you knew what vici was doing was absolutely broken, and I guess it was. That kind of thing is why I didnt like the particular strategies employed later in the tournament. I think more strats are viable than ever, but not a lot if people are only doing deathball again because newbee did it. Im not home yet but im scared to see what pubs are like.

If it doesn't, most of the time your late game is pretty good anyway and you can try and win it there instead.
Sack of shit? isn't that fucking rude lmao whats wrong with mason
He used to rage-quit some of EG's games whenever he felt like not playing them and EG had to get a second standin for him, he often paused the game and trash talked other NA teams, and is generally a gigantic asshole. He's been quiet ever since he became a part of the EG roster, most likely due to having a shitload of money on the line if he opened his foul trap again. [editline]23rd July 2014[/editline]
To be honest Deathball is an extremely low risk strategy. If it works, you flat out win. If it doesn't, most of the time your late game is pretty good anyway and you can try and win it there instead.
If you deathball all game you're going to have a gigantic experience disadvantage versus the enemy team if you don't get lots of kills. Even if you do, then it's still possible to be at a disadvantage XP-wise. Deathballing is most beneficial in lineups that need gold more than XP since you're getting towers. It's weakest against lineups that only really need XP.
I liked the meta last year, TI2 meta blew, pre TI4 meta (think MLG Columbus) was sick.
rather deathball/push strats than rat/bat/wisp
rather deathball/push strats than rat/bat/wisp
the games can at least be tense with those strats deathball just end in 20 mins and the game is pretty much over a 11-12 mins or so, boring
The thing is that the only way to win in Dota is to destroy the enemy ancient, so the best strategies are always the ones that involve destroying towers and taking the enemy base, thus the best teams will never be the most entertaining to watch. Strategies that rely on killing the enemy team a lot, general kill-fests, or 'big plays' are just overall weaker and always will be weaker than strategies that simply end the game even if they are funner. [editline]23rd July 2014[/editline] TI1 was extremely undeveloped Dota in my opinion, so we didn't see much of it back then. TI2 was basically iG deathballing down every lane and winning after securing enough farm through delaying the game (the classic 'Chinese Dota' play). TI3 was Alliance split-pushing their enemies to death and taking the enemy base when they knew they couldn't defend. TI4 was essentially the same as TI2, except VG deathballed towers down at the 10-20 minute mark rather than the 40 minute mark and Newbee focused on ramming their team into the enemy team at any given chance they could get with their equally early deathball (or sometimes even earlier, as we saw in the grand finals).
Apparently everyone on Facepunch hangs out in the Giant Bomb chat. E: Wrong thread.

>mss says he won't play for a year everybody cries >mason says he stops playing pro forever "good for EG fuck this sack of shit" let's completely forget mason played better than all EG except universe at TI4 and that he is one of the most successful esports players ever (if you think he got carried by the rest of EG you're fucking retarded)

Honestly, mason had moments but I think he underperformed a lot and Arteezy...needs to learn not to be so fucking far up mid.
Woah hang on ppd and zai were killing it too. Honestly, mason had moments but I think he underperformed a lot and Arteezy...needs to learn not to be so fucking far up mid.
Yeah but mason is consistent, he had the 3rd least amount of deaths this whole tournament.
Yeah but mason is consistent, he had the 3rd least amount of deaths this whole tournament.
Did he really? I'm actually impressed now.
if you think he got carried by the rest of EG you're fucking retarded
Now if only you would jump on the bandwagon with the insults you dish out. I reckon zai was the ball-buster this year. He's only what? 16? to pull through very well like that with a young mindset and place 3rd at Ti4 is pretty damn good. When I was 16 all I was capable of was click-and-point games like Runescape and being a twat on Unreal Tournament because I had no idea what "ping" was.
>mss says he won't play for a year everybody cries >mason says he stops playing pro forever "good for EG fuck this sack of shit" let's completely forget mason played better than all EG except universe at TI4 and that he is one of the most successful esports players ever (if you think he got carried by the rest of EG you're fucking retarded)
Mason's hero pool was limited enough that EG had to change their play style quite a bit. [editline]23rd July 2014[/editline] When fear was playing, EG always went for the late game with one traditional carry (sylla, safe lane void, etc). With mason they were forced to draft mid game heroes and go for an early finish.
