Doesnt even mention the X-plane series.
Or the DCS series
Jesus people, it isn't the history of Flight Simulators, it's the history of the game series "Flight Simulator" I feel like that isn't hard to figure out, but apparently i'm wrong. It's stupid to keep posting "X-plane!!!" If you want an X-plane thread, and you're so goddamn knowledgeable of the series, then go make the fucking thread yourself. Let him have his thread about Flight Simulator. No one goes into the STALKER thread asking where the Call of Duty info is...

The title should be "Microsoft Fight Simulator History Megathread" and not just "Flight Simulator".
I still have the 200 or so page manual from Combat Flight Simulator 2. Too bad you don't see those anymore.
I still play FSX... with VATSim
After playing FS for hundreds of hours for years, I can pretty much recognize all the liveries and logos of all major airlines on all six continents :D
Or the DCS series
How could i have forgotten, the DCS series puts all the other combat sims to shame

I hope he actually wasted 27 hours, and didn't just slew up to that altitude.
It doesn't make sense to just put Microsoft flight simulators here, so here are 2 awesome Combat flight simulators
IL-2 Sturmovik (Ил-2 Штурмовик) is a World War II combat flight simulator video game, focused on the air battles of the Eastern Front.[2][3] It is named after the Soviet Ilyushin Il-2 ground-attack fighter, which played a prominent role in this theatre and is the single most produced military aircraft design to date.[4] Along with its sequels, IL-2 Sturmovik is considered one of the leading World War II flight simulators.[5] The original version of the game featured 31 flyable Soviet, German, American, British, French and Polish planes and an additional 40 non-flyable planes (available as opponents). The game was developed by 1C: Maddox Games and published by 1C in Russia and Ubisoft in the rest of the world, for PCs on November 18, 2001. The latest edition that includes all sequels and patches is version 4.10. The game has been updated frequently, and is the flight simulator video game longest supported by its developer with the demo released in 2001 and the latest patch including new planes released in 2011. IL-2 Sturmovik and the sequels Forgotten Battles, Forgotten Battles Ace Expansion Pack, Pacific Fighters, Pe-2 add-on, Manchuria and 1946 now contain 347 aircraft, with 256 being flyable. The featured aircraft cover most major aircraft deployed during World War II as well as some which did not leave the prototype stage.
And Rise of Flight
Rise of Flight is a flight simulator depicting aerial warfare over the Western Front during the First World War. The time line of Rise of Flight currently covers the years from 1916-1918. The included game map covers over 120,000 km² of the Western Front. Some well-known flyable aircraft are included in the base game (Albatros D.Va, Fokker D.VII, Nieuport 28.C1, SPAD 13.C1), with additional add-on aircraft from 1916 to 1918 available for purchase online. Each plane and the simulation of its respective engine and weapons is modeled in great detail. Furthermore, the game renders damage to the aircraft resulting from airframe stress, battle damage, fire, and collisions. Rise of Flight was created by the Moscow-based game developer Neoqb and is based on the 'Digital Nature' game engine. Rise of Flight's years of development by the team at Neoqb created a combat flight simulation that makes good use of modern hardware, including head tracking devices such as TrackIR.

I still have that Manual, AND the Pro Pilot Manual + Flight Guide, AND the Red Baron II Manual, AND the Strike Commander Manual, among many other golden-age manuals.
I have the manual for FS1, which is incredibly large for such a simple game. I don't have the giant CFS2 manual though (I bought the small box version, so It probably didn't fit.)
Always wanted to try Rise of Flight. Keep forgetting about it.
Best thing about MSFS is its amazing community. They make the highest quality mods of any game.
Best thing about MSFS is its amazing community. They make the highest quality mods of any game.
Any Flight sim has a great Community since the genre drives the faggots of humanity away.
Is there any good mod that improves the Cessna 172 or adds a 182 with a clickable cockpit and a good flight model for FSX?
Oh fuck, I have FSX deluxe around here somewhere. Fuck I need to install that all up in this bitch. I dont have much space on either of my HDD's right now. I also have 2 joysticks sitting around. What one should I use? A logitech wingman force feedback or a logitech attack 3? The wingman has fucktons of buttons and force feedback.
Always wanted to try Rise of Flight. Keep forgetting about it.
The free version has two planes and all other features in it, come on play with me!
Super necro post here but its relevant and I've been playing FSX almost everyday for the past few weeks and am wondering if there is anyone else doing the same. I don't really do the simulation pilot vatsim stuff, just some good'ol skybound hooning. Did a flight around the world in an overweight cessna caravan. Had to make stops every two hours but quite surprised the fuel tank had enough to fly 1200mi per go. Ran out of fuel in Japan-Alaska and UK-Ukraine leg but glided safely to the airport in both of them. Anyway here's what I've been up to recently, I don't know if there is still anyone doing multiplayer but I've been trolling the bot pilots. Gotta love the ATC screaming "TRAFFIC ALERT!" non stop. Should i try to update this thread with all the flight simulators or just keep it fsx?
