I'd like to make a next-gen Dwarf Fortress. I know that the ascii graphics and keyboard interface are all part of how badass and old school it is, but I also think that they're unnecessary impediments to enjoying the game. And they really only add to the already ridiculously steep learning curve.
Dwarf Fortress with 3D graphics, a nice interface, and a comprehensive tutorial system would be a huge success in my opinion.

DF with 3d graphics and gameplay that equals that of the 2d version would require a pretty beefy computer...you'd have to calculate events in a huge interactive world, temperature fluctuations in the playing area and soon even army movements and warring factions globally.

So sorry if this is a big bump, but did GTA4 have it's own engine? We should get that engine, plus Euphoria, and DMM (I think it was called that). Then add certain gameplay elements, model the weapons and vikings, and you're done.
I know this may be hard, but we really need to do this.
