so I was playing as Japan, on Frag Town, with a random and a friend, against 2 randoms (one of which was 13, I think)
we kicked their ass
The enemy team was obviously inexperienced and didn't field the AT guns and infantry required to counter the Ha-Go rush that accompanies fighting a Japanese opponent.
me and my friend raped their starting squads with Ha-Gos, capped 3/5 points, then pushed left
they delayed us for a bit, then I called in medium tanks and SNLF, and it was GG
the 13 year old's partner quit. I think it was because he was being an idiot and spawning Willys MBs for no apparent reason.
is it just me or is combat vastly inferior to assault zones?
it's like "camp"... because you have to cut losses and maximize kills.

They're actually releasing this in the west? 1C and Bestway have made a lot more than just Soldiers, Faces/Men of War on the GEM engine, but they're never released outside of Russia/Ukraine etc.

well it makes it a more obvious choice
you have an infantry support tank and you have a tank-hunter tank... they cost the same, what do you need more.
It's like SdKfz 222 vs. Pz. II Luchs
222 is recon, harassment, and theft (stealing arty/AT, since it can tow, and is 3 units faster), and Pz. II Luchs is for infantry support because it's got more armor (10mm to be precise), to resist AC fire.
They have the same unit cost and armament.
IMO this patch really shoves turtling in the dump, as HMGs are no longer the invincible insta-fortresses they once were, it takes 50% longer to make sandbags (no more sandbags everywhere, I hope). Also they increased the timer for HMG/light FlaK/Mortars by over 100%, and limits Heavy AA to 1 per player (no more FlaK 37 spam, fuck yeah).
Also AT guns will no longer be anti-infantry/anti-building unless you call in a supply truck to give it more HE.
The Bazooka AT Jeep has been buffed a LOT, or so it seems (10m more max range, since hollow charge (AT rocket) projectiles maintain penetration potential over range, that's a significant buff), along with the general bazooka accuracy buff, and decreased cost.
Japan seems to have gotten a significant early game buff with the mortar isuzu, and [b]1 BRAND NEW UNIT[/b]
Seems like it's going to get a lot tougher for germany players, especially vs. SU, with the heavy AA limitation.
SU got nerfed a bit though on the infy side, since all their SMGs on non-frontline troops now are [b]not[/b] the beast that is the PPsH.

yeah but smaller mag = they can't serve as fuckin spam-o-matics that rival the firepower and surpression of LMGs in CQC
plus I'll bet that they'll nerf the RoF a little bit on the small mag ones, even though they are basing it on IRL RoF
wouldn't be fair, as the Americans have the M3, which is inferior to the M1 Thompson for their rear-ech troops, Japanese have the MP28_30 (not the 50 round variant given to the SNLF) for their rear-ech, Germans have the meh MP40, and British have the equally meh Sten.
arguably the Brits and the Germans have the advantage in rear-ech troops, but no one really uses them seriously for combat, except in desperate situations in which I have tank commanders fighting for their lives.
If your sappers or truck drivers get ambushed by elites or paras (which are the only troops one usually sends behind enemy lines to do stealth caps), they're fucked no matter what gun they have.
Sten is miles better than the MP40 I'd say, slow RoF but its accuracy is quite decent. Also if I didnt know better I'd say its got higher damage too, but they both fire the same round.

accuracy curves for all SMGs seem to be the same, tbh they're all very similar for small arms.
IMO most gun preferences are based on "feelings" rather than statistics, I once met a guy who said that the American Conscripts had the best rifle because it fired fast, when in fact they only carry the M1903 Springfield, and not the M1 Garand issued to all other American standard infantry (regular and assault).
The M1 Garand gives American Rifleman an advantage as they are the only faction that has semi-autos issued to regular troops. It makes up for their poor MG, which has the smallest magazine of them all.
American Paras carry the M1 carbine and Rangers carry the select fire M2 Carbine, which IMO is a bit better than the StG44 at times.
I never see them fire the M2 on full auto, but hey thats what direct control is for.
And I'm pretty sure all of the small arms have their own stats, just like the other weapons in the game.

Really? I see it all the time (SMG/pistol range), it makes this awesome noise.
(BTW for clarity call it the M2 Carbine, most players assume the M2 is the M2HB .50 cal machine gun)
it's always fun to mount the M2HB on the German Halftrack and Tiger tank, it's hilarious when you take out a jeep with the 50 cal while waiting for the 88mm to reload.

I'm not contesting that, I'm arguing that the difference between the combat effectiveness is marginal at best between different guns of a similar type (MP40 vs. Sten)

GSM has so many problems it has to overcome before getting to balance it's amazing.
Funny thing though... earlier in that same round I shot a KT in the side of the turret with a SU-76 and ammo racked it from like halfway across the map.

also KT's side armor sucks, killed 2 in one game with a comet and centurion, through APCR sideshots
also killed a jagdtiger with a captured FlaK 37 88mm APCR to the rear.
