Fallout Series Thread V14: When i entered this thread i was hoping there would be more gambling

The tunnels would have worked, if you could either travel through the dangerous city, or go through the relative safety of the underground.
Fucking hell. Was trying to save Ted Gunderson at the Ultra-Luxe, when things go tits up. I end up annihilating the casino to escort Ted to safety, but his father does not react and end the quest.
Had to reload to a previous save and do it more normal, which kind of sucks because I've been attempting to play as it falls (Not reload the game when a desired outcome is failed).
Man, God/Dog is the best character in all of the New Vegas DLC. I mean, for real, the concept behind him is just excellent.
[sp]I could never bring myself to make either Dog or God take over, I always have to make them both merge together. That's why I always get my speech up to 100 on all of my characters[/sp]
Is it me or is throwing General Oliver off the dam the best thing about the ending.

it took me until about my 400th hour or so of playtime to know that you could do that
i always thought the dialogue option to do so was just a euphemism for shooting him or something

Its just so dam satisfying to throw his ass off the dam. Much more satisfying then that dam fight with the dam legate of the dam Legion.
I'm sorry
I didn't go that ending so I looked up a vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAzC7cpxc90
Just read the comments. That's just sad.
All the environments were incredibly repetitive. It's like Bethesda had enough art assets to make a good, solid, totally linear game, then they copypasted everything else to fill everything else.
There are basically four or so indoor environments:
Ornate (Dukov, Tenpenny, Obadiah's Mansion or whatever it's called)
Shack (Gypsy Village, Arefu, Megaton, Smith Casey's Garage, Numbers Stations)
Office (Arlington Library, Elementary School, Offices, the Hotel)
Underground Sometimes Leading to a Cave (Tunnels, Subways, Basements, Bases, Rivet City, Vaults)
You always see the same stairways, boilers, metal grates, pipes along the walls and such no matter where you go. In relation to the main quest, subways just serve to shoehorn you in to the same situation so you can see the set pieces the devs set up (the super mutant foreshadowing, burning the mole rats with the laser, using the lockpick minigame to progress).
The original Fallouts are guilty of this too somewhat, but I think that in a game with a bigger focus on exploration and gunplay, and with the technology Bethesda had access to, they could have avoided it.
There's a point at which noticing the reused assets becomes extremely jarring. There's a point after that where you've seen them reused so much that you can neither notice nor care.
There are times when I'll think, "You idiots, it makes absolutely no sense for [area I'm in] to be built this way..." and keep on going until I forget my complaints because there's no reason to hold on to them.
i think one of the biggest things thats holdong TES and Fallout back is the engine.
Well, I'm quite satisfied with it since it actually plays on my PC.
Well, I'm quite satisfied with it since it actually plays on my PC.
Yeah, but if it was coded better, it could probably still run on your PC and actually be able to for example display more than a dozen NPCs at the same time, or provide actually good, responsive gameplay, or not crash all the damn time.

also let it be said that MeltingData is a bastard for not showing up yesterday and not even letting us know he wouldn't be there
I was gone from Big MT. for so long, I nearly forgot how ridiculously annoying it is to navigate. I really hate it when I have to rely on only my most powerful weapons, instead of the ones I actually want to use.

It became a barren wasteland for me rather quickly, except for that cazador and a few roboscorpions.
Fallout on the RAGE engine? FUCK YES! The Cars! mod would work soooooooooo much better, and hell, we might even be able to use GTA IV car mods in Fallout! I'd absolutely love that.
Actually, cars was something I was kind of hesitant about. While they would be available in the engine, I've never been keen on them in game. Like, maybe of there were one or two, super rare, probably quest based, possibly hard to maintain, I dunno.
However, horses on the other hand, or some fallout mutant equine equivalent. That I could dig.
Having played Fallout 3 so much I want to mod it so it really looks quite different. Has anyone got any mod suggestions?
I got the massive texture pack (NMC) but it doesn't massively change the look. Fellout + Project Reality gives it a kind of interesting grey look.
I also really like the look of this enb, but I can't get it to run smoothly because the latest fallout enb mod refuses to use both my graphics cards.

Cars would work fine if they where all massive piles of scrapmetal shit and the map was really large, but as a few mods have demonstrated, Fallout 3 and New Vegas's map size is too small for fast moving vehicles.

Horses are extinct in Fallout's world. TMYK. Also, J.E. Sawyer said vehicles are around and working again at FNV's point in time because that's how the NCR transports their shit. The problem was that the engine can't handle vehicles right now so they didn't even bother.
My guess is that the reason why FO4 announcement's been taking so long is because Bethesda is completely overhauling the engine to get vehicles working. This will benefit both Fallout and ES (carriages, wagons, etc).
Yeah lore wise there are plenty of motor vehicles, the NCR uses hundreds of US army trucks to supply the Mojave, that's why there are so many trucks at McCarran, it's a repair depot. But the game just wouldn't work with actual trucks everywhere, not yet.

I would also assume there is even limited private car ownership in the Republic itself.
You probably meant the opposite coasts since 1 and 2 take place on the West Coast.
That setup would be fine by me, let Bethesda do their spinoffs and Obsidian continue the main plot
Why not give Bethesda the job of fixing the engine, making a new one that works, or finding a new one to handle the game while they let Obsidian do the game itself (making characters, writing the story, building the dungeons, et cet.)? Or would that be too logical if both of the companies worked on the franchise together?
I'm just wondering. Which armor do you think looks better? T-45d or T-51b?
t45-d
Personally, I think the T-51b body looks better, but the T-45d helmet looks better. But that's just me.
T-45d looks better in 3D games, yeah. T-51b was fine for isometric 2D but the design looks silly in 3D.
Advanced Power Armor Mk2 from FO2 works perfectly fine in 3D though, I don't like the FO3 version at all.
T-45d, but the T-51b looks fine to me.
I think both the armors look great, its just the pip-boy glove that ruins the look of them
I'm just a little bit disappointed they didn't play a bit more with the design of T-51b. I understand it's recreation of the previous game's armor but it ends up looking more primitive than the "older" power armor.

I wouldn't say "more primitive". If you compare the two side by side, the T-51b looks definitely tidier, with less clutter on the helmet, no exposed power pack and all that, it's just odd looking.
I always loved going to New Reno after getting the Advanced Power Armor from Navarro and walking past all the prostitutes.
I think both the armors look great, its just the pip-boy glove that ruins the look of them
And that's why i love this
Advanced power armor and T-51b were imprinted into my brain from FO1/2 like a childhood memory, so I was amazed and delighted how exact the recreation was.
Also when I first saw T-45d I thought that was supposed to be the recreation of T-51b, so I thought it looked terrible. Still does though.
I think maybe they have seen to many MMOs that bathe in repetition and for some reason think it is a good idea.

TES Online is shaping up to be a WoW clone, so I wouldn't be surprised if you're right on the money...
