Hello, ya all. I started playing my first Fallout game, New Vegas this week, and damn, I am loving this so far. Are there mods that are absolutely necessary for first-timers, or should I play the game without them for the first time around?
I'd say play it without the mods first, but that's just me. See OP for the list.
XRE - Cars is a must-have for me. Speaking of, about an hour ago Ermeso released the 3rd party addon kit for it. I wonder how long until the first 3rd party cars start showing up on the nexus?
For some reason I hadn't explored New Vegas sewers before, only the North Vegas ones. RIP in pieces, you gave me a nice scare (and a cool lead pipe). [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/882993160991306817/BE8CF7BB6A31B69467261180F4092CC219B4ACE0/[/t]

Like all mods, most of the features are hacked in and tbh the cars are to clunky to be used as transportation.
But it's still mighty impressive, especially considering the stiffness of the gamebryo engine. I think they could benefit from some more rusted textures, though. Nice, shiny, colorful cars don't fit in the wasteland at all.
guys i need a list of cheesy one-liners related to garbage shot from the Rock-It Launcher
guys i need a list of cheesy one-liners related to garbage shot from the Rock-It Launcher
"There's plenty of junk in this trunk." And you punctuate that by shooting them. The shooting part is vital otherwise it sounds like you're talking about your fat ass.
guys i need a list of cheesy one-liners related to garbage shot from the Rock-It Launcher
Teddy bears: "Just grin and bear the pain!" Dinner plates: "Check out the damage I can dish out!" Plungers: "I see some shit that needs cleaning up" (the enemy being the shit, I guess?)
guys i need a list of cheesy one-liners related to garbage shot from the Rock-It Launcher
"I'm taking you out with the rest of the garbage"
Now that I think about it, it would have been nice to be able to launch live grenades out of the Rock-It launcher. Like, instead of a billion junk items, you put a few grenades in. As soon as you put them in, they go live, like planting a live one in someone's pocket, so you'd only have a few seconds to shoot it before it explodes, damaging you and breaking the gun.

Useful in FO3 at least, though.
guys i need cheesier lines like "PLAY BALL" or "TIME TO TAKE OUT THE TRASH" or "NEED A HUG" or "RECYCLE THIS" or "WANT A DRINK" or "I DON'T KNOW ANY JOKES ABOUT CLIPBOARDS" in duke nukem's voice which i guess would be "Duke Nuka"

Go watch The Book Of Eli. Unless you're like a raging atheist or something. It's probably the most Fallout movie ever created, in terms of atmosphere and visuals. (if they ever make a Fallout game set 30 years after the war, that's what I want it to be like.) And it has Tom Waits. And Mila Kunis who can actually act for once. And Denzel Washington. And a great soundtrack and basically just fuckin' go watch it.

It has its quirks, yes, but I can and do drive around. Fuck walking. The only thing it lacks currently is a handbrake/powerslide button. After all, how else am I 'sposed to impress Veronica if I can't do a handbrake turn?
Some of the killcam shots you get in in VATS are simply amazing, I got a headshot on one Powder Ganger and his decapitated body was sent flying so far backwards it did a backflip and hit the roof of the building we were in. Also punching weapons out of people's arms whilst cloaked and then instantly killing them with a second punch as they stop to pick it up again is endlessly satisfying.

Okay, got two entirely different things to say, a story, and a question. Story: My friends were over and I was showing one of my friends Fallout 3. I just found the RobCo Facility, cause I was looking for Tinker Joe, and I wanted to be able to find him again so I can get RL-3. I found a Mister Handy, followed by a Protectron, and Tinker Joe shooting a Radscorpion(I think). I found RL-3 stuck trying to move between a broken fence that was too small for him. I talked with Joe and was about to leave, when suddenly, I see RL-3 zip away into the Wasteland, never to be seen again*, as his people needed him**. The Protectron was wobbling after him, who's people also sorta needed him***. And now, question(s) First, after exiting the simulation in Vault 112, I went to Rivet City, and I noticed RL-3 wasn't following me anymore. I said I would go with Dad. Does that have anything to do with it? I have Phalanx installed. Second, how do I get Pinkerton to talk about the android? I've done just about everything that could lead up talking to him about it, I even had the lady show up(in Pinkerton's place) and give me the thingy device. What do? I want that plasma rifle. *He was seen again **His people didn't actually need him ***His people didn't sorta need him Okay, I looked on the Wiki. I just didn't find the Tier 4 tape, so onwards!

Does anyone Else just really love the stealth Suit you get from Old World Blues?

The killcam followed my bullet to his head, then followed his disembodied head all the way down the cliff and into the river. Another time I blew someone's head up and the killcam followed the eyeball as it was launched into the sky. I didn't even get to see it land. im going to start new vegas for the first time, what should i know about the general universe because all i know is the roman guys are dicks and i think theres this yellow robot called claptrap
im going to start new vegas for the first time, what should i know about the general universe because all i know is the roman guys are dicks and i think theres this yellow robot called claptrap
The yellow robot called Claptrap is from Borderlands. New Vegas does have single wheeled robots but they're much bigger and have a lot of firepower. Also one is a cowboy.
im going to start new vegas for the first time, what should i know about the general universe because all i know is the roman guys are dicks and i think theres this yellow robot called claptrap
General TL;DR of the Fallout lore: 1950-2077: Life more or less carried on as they invisioned it would in the 50s. Nuclear powered cars included. Oct 23rd, 2077: World War Three went hot. Everything got nuked to fucking hell. Of life left on the surface when the bombs fell, the survivors ended up with mutations mild to veeeeery severe. Sometime in the 2100s: The super mutants are created. I won't spoil it in case you decide to play Fallout 1, this is all detailed therein. Also, a little country called the NCR forms. You'll be dealing with them a lot in NV. Everything else should be explained in-game. If you like it I highly advise you to play through all of the games before NV as well. FO3 is canon, but its story has very little to do with the west coast and it's on the complete opposite end of the country. FO1 and FO2's events strongly influence what happens in New Vegas, however. One note of warning regarding FO1/2, though: They're turn-based isometric games. That, for me, was a dealbreaker. I couldn't get into them because the gameplay was just way too slow for my tastes. IF you like that sort of game you'll love 'em to death, if not you may end up reading the plots on the wiki like I did.
