Seriously though. Imagine a Fallout game in Detroit. Detroit's already bad enough, add an apocalypse to it and it'd be pure hell. Sounds fun to me.

I've had this idea brewing of a short Fallout game, where you start off as a Power Armor trooper from before the war (an Anchorage vet) who was frozen due to an indeterminate accident and gets unfrozen in the 2290's by a group of scavengers who have just started excavating the city you're in, and they get you back on your feet and teach you the ways of the world now. The intro sequence is a slow, trudging trailing through the crumbling halls of the medical facility, stumbling and vomiting from cryo sickness and general muscle inactivity, until you reach your stored Power Armor, which is damaged, but wearable. The entire first act would have you as the protector and benefactor of a small scavenger community that was established in the ruins of the city above, teaching them the ways of the Old World, fending off the local critters and sparse gangers and suchlike. The locals come to see you as a good person (even if you've been covertly fucking with them by teaching them the incorrect methods, since they don't know any better.) and you become their de-facto sheriff. The second act would come with the arrival of scouts from the NCR, who want the military base for themselves, and see you as a threat to their interests as such. They first try to take you over diplomatically (while stressing that refusal is basically a non-option.) but things go sour when an unknown saboteur bombs the meeting, killing the NCR emissaries and badly wounding you. You're rescued by a stranded NCR medic and the town doctor, who manage to patch you up (barely) but have to rig your PA into a makeshift life support system due to your injuries, and they flat-out tell you that it's unlikely you'll ever be able to get out of your armor unless you find proper medical attention soon. Eventually, the NCR decide that as retaliation for the bombing, they'll take the town by force, and a skirmish breaks out and you have to halt it, diplomatically or violently. However, in the process you find someone setting another bomb, intending to take out the town's makeshift hospital for those injured in the process. A chase ensues to the top of the town's wrecked clock tower and you find out that it's your past C.O, Sgt. Davison. They were in they second pod, the empty one that unfroze before you. Davison reveals that they were the ones who caused the accident that had you cryo-frozen pre-war, intending to kill you for showing them up in an inquiry over Anchorage, which they barely avoided punishment for. The third act begins with you attempting to kill Davison, and the two off you fall off the clock-tower. You survive rather well, despite your heavily-damaged PA and previous injuries. although you're hardly going to be running a marathon afterward. Davison, however, is mortally wounded, and tells you in their last moments that even though you have vengeance for your injuries and being stranded in a post-war nightmare, you are STILL trapped in a post-war nightmare, with no place to call your own. Depending on your choices throughout the game, the NCR either simply bows down as you carry Davison's corpse to the military base, and disappear to find a medic to heal your life-support-requiring-injuries.. Or they siege the town a final time in an attempt to kill you, only to find your battered form kneeling at Davison's corpse, before standing up and slaughtering all the NCR troopers in your way, before disappearing into the sunset, caked in blood and trailing with smoke, to find yourself a medic, and a place to call your own. Either that, or the PA trooper'd just be a companion, and his companionquest would deal with the Davison aspect.
Well that's an interesting idea, I guess, but Alaska seems like a bit out of the reach of the NCR, especially considering how fucking hard it was for them to hold just southern Nevada. It would certainly be a different Fallout game than FO3/NV, that's certain, and the story doesn't feel quite as open as that of NV, or even FO3.
my game is so buggy, i had this glitch happen where, after going into VATS, my character was just slowly turning and walking away, i couldnt do anything to make it stop [img_thumb]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/451778986709573229/CC97B404B2A607CB57D9547352F218E6F2EDD370/[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/451778986709576147/5A26DE698A022CAAEF64FF393ADB366BD90CD53C/[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/451778986709577156/7D6A6A3B2A9E02A29E822291016DCC34B6AC8F01/[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/451778986709578286/5BFE962A661F4B60BD67BC2F993521DDEE022509/[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/451778986709579044/95FBB930BDB2ED746949C4CCAA2F65CEA6D7E344/[/img_thumb] i was then slowly beaten off camera by the guys chasing me...

It'd be in a midwestern or western state, your character is just an Anchorage vet who pissed off Davison somehow in an inquiry. The idea is that you got shipped to the base in the intro, and then injured. Also, yeah, it's not as free or as open as FO3 or NV, it'd probably be more like Bioshock or Deus Ex in its roamy playstyle; you can roam freely within certain boundaries, but only while the plot's ongoing.
Oh god, Victor somehow managed to both traverse great distances and time as he's now appeared in the Capital Wasteland to help me kill some Talon Mercs. [img_thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/684840005580543657/F8D3B756FAFCAE38D798265DAE222C1F476E46E0/[/img_thumb]
Those are some fucking incredible smell sensors, Victor.

[QUOTE=AmericanInfantry;42832535]I would always kill him to get those 6 Sunset star caps.[/QUOTE] He also has some .308 ammo on his person, lacks any weapon other than his bare fists, has a habit of creepily sneaking up on me from out of nowhere, and there are no consequences for brutally murdering him in front of anyone. All he really needs is a bullseye painted on his forehead and a big wooden sign reading "PLEASE MURDER ME ON SIGHT".
Anyone know any mods that add DLC to leveled lists and vendors? I've seen in some of Alchestbreach's videos he has Dead Money weapons at the Gun Runners and in loot containers but I can't find the mod. [QUOTE=Drsalvador;42826177]Fallout game idea[/QUOTE] I think it's pretty linear for a Fallout game. Some of it doesn't really translate well to a game at all. Protecting a town and teaching the ways of the old world don't sound like fun things to do in a game. In a movie or a comic this could be neatly covered in a montage. Montages don't work too well in games though - it breaks the immersion because, instead of cultivating relationships and forging connections with people in the town over a matter of weeks, the game simply tells you that you're doing this. Automatically becoming the sheriff just because you're playing also sounds like a bad idea. It's one thing to automatically determine the background of a character in such detail, but another to determine what will happen to them. Why can't the player just decide to mow down the town right off the bat? How come they can't just skip town when things get tough? The intro sequence seems like a bad idea. I have the urge to start a game of Fallout 3 every few weeks but I have not actually done so for months - why? I haven't because I want to scavenge and explore in urban ruins instead of sitting through a completely linear, mundane, and terribly paced introduction. Furthermore, that chase to the town's wrecked clock tower does not fly with me at all. By specifying how the chase will end you need to throw up a ton of invisible walls and hoops to jump through. Do you remember that one person on Facepunch who was complaining about Assassin's Creed? They mentioned a scene where it says 'kill this dude'. So they kill him and it says they failed the mission. They do it again a different way and it's still a failure, so after checking a guide it turns out you're supposed to fail and kill him after a chase sequence. Obviously this is a bad way of doing things, but it's how it's going to play out in your game. For example, how is Davidson's AI going to work in this chase sequence? Does he run up to the clocktower himself and wait for you? Is he scripted in such a way that you can only see him darting around corners just in front of you no matter how slowly you go? Is he just invulnerable to mines you've set up or guns you shoot until he makes it to the top? Obviously, the clock tower is a bad place to make a last stand. In a movie, someone could get stuck up there because the hero or the town or the scenery had cornered them. In a game, it makes no sense. For that matter, it makes no sense to have you both falling off the clock tower, unless it collapses before the fight even starts. The NCR here is really really out of character. They're not raiders, they're not scavengers, and they don't immediately try to strongarm innocents into handing them everything. Their diplomats would at least be ordered to radio home if they run into trouble. Recall Vault 15. The NCR was from there, they needed stuff from it, and they had every right to mow down the squatters as soon as they found out they wouldn't move. They didn't try to tell Zeke 'refusal wasn't an option'. They just tried more diplomacy - Tandi wanted a more subtle approach than just blowing things up, after all. Why would the NCR want to retaliate for a bombing that obviously wasn't targeted against them? The whole initial scene with the NCR is another severe restriction of choice. What happens if you kill the scouts before they even come close to the town? Rangers are awful intimidating and as sheriff you might have placed mines or grenade bouquets at least some caltrops. What if you want to let them have the base or annex you and agree right away?

i hope best friend tabitha is a companion in the future she'd have rhonda as her perk
I had my final visit to New Reno today, Bishop's place to be exact. Since I had no skill with traps I was forced to shoot my way out from the 3rd story down to the 1st... [t]http://i.imgur.com/1a662Fj.jpg[/t] When the firefight reached the bar everyone pulled out a shiv and starting stabbing at random.. It was a nice touch!
So the NCR likes me and colonel Hsu gave me a key to a safehouse surrounded by deathclaws I spent an hour and a half looking for it (no map marker) and when I enter the shack it has no fucking loot.

Also, what the hell are you talking about? There's ncr power armor in there, in addition to ncr veteran ranger armor, the most badass armor in the game. By the way, I'm pretty sure he marks it on your map when he gives you the key.

I didn't really know where I was going, just that the shack was near one of the railways. And I've never patched the game
[QUOTE=Hat-Wearing Man;42836463]And I've never patched the game[/QUOTE] There is your problem

So what's the deal with fallout 3 now that GFWL is shut down/will be shutting down? Is bethesda gonna patch the game or something?
[QUOTE=Ardosos;42836705]So what's the deal with fallout 3 now that GFWL is shut down/will be shutting down? Is bethesda gonna patch the game or something?[/QUOTE] They should do it. Still, we have Script Extender which bypass GFWL, so we are safe. In an unrelated note I started a new game in New Vegas days ago and no matter how many times I play it, I always find things I never found in my other gameplays.
