Considering how dirty those rivers had been per and post war might play a faction. I mean nothing like project purity was attempted there or out west to my knowledge so basically purifying an entire river system can help a lot. See if the enclave got their way then you basically doomed much more than the CW, if the BoS got their way then they control a vital resource more or less
I don't know, purifying a whole river system when I assume the whole world's water supply that moves (Rivers and Oceans) is saturated with radioactive sediment wouldn't really have much effect - the next heavy rain would stir it up again and add more via particles carried in evaporating water. Water filters at each settlement would be a far more effective method than Project Purity, and easier to do in general.
Is there VATS-like aiming in Fallout 1? Also I feel like "VATS" is a reference to the vats in F1.
Yeah, you can make targeted shots, it also let you make groin and eye shots.

I could understand using it to draw water from the bay for filtration but they explicitly say they're cleaning the river, wouldn't you want to clear it at it's source?

But, taking the Enclave plan, there you would want to start it at the source and contaminate the entire river. Project Purity's location is actually terrible for being effective, since it would really only contaminate the tidal water area, which no one would really be drinking anyway - because it'd be salty. And, you know, they could just dump their modified FEV into rivers if they really wanted to achieve the same effect.
When thinking about what which Fallout game is the best, don't consider the plot, or the characters, consider this; "Can I hit the guy in the balls with a sledge hammer?"
I swear if Fallout 4 has as many essential characters as Skyrim I will beat Todd Howard with a massive dildo. [editline]4th December 2013[/editline]
Considering I only played FO 1 and 2 very recently for the first time - Yeah, I can't really be affected by nostalgia for the Fallout series. And, you know, the writing is objectively bad - the main plot revolves around something that would never been an issue, because water itself can't be irradiated, only sedimentary particles suspended in it, which would make filtering it a cinch And considering one of the mainstays of the Fallout series appears to be grey morality, the main quest of FO3 being black/white was like the writing of a child in comparison.
The main quest was ass, as it seems to be in just about every Bethesda game since Morrowind (or arguably Oblivion) and the heel-face turn of the Brotherhood into bonafide good guys and have the Enclave show up to provide the Nazis (it seems every Bethesda game has to have Lawful or Neutral Evil bad guys even if the main quest doesn't involve them, from Daedra to Thalmor to Enclave) although, to be fair, the Enclave were straight up Nazis in 2 as well, but the Brotherhood was still morally grey in 1 and 2 (they have the option of getting better in New Vegas). Project Purity itself was also pretty dumb. With all that said, I still enjoyed most of the sidequest and a lot of them (like Oasis) brought up some morally questionable decisions without shitting on lore. Also, the gameworld was anything but cramped. In fact, it was so open that more time was spent walking from place to place rather than doing anything. I know 1 and 2 were limited by the technology available but the map hardly felt big or open just because it had a large overworld map. There wasn't a good sense of scale to it and watching your dot move from area to area never left any impression of distance to me. Maybe I lack imagination, but for there to be scale I think you need to ditch an overworld map.
So I FINALLY bought the DLC for New Vegas, and so I'm playing them for the first time. I recently beat Dead Money.. it was horrible. But my god, Old World Blues.. I've only just started it but the robot's personalities, the environment.. the story. I'm really liking it. Also Hand Penises :quagmire:
Is there VATS-like aiming in Fallout 1? Also I feel like "VATS" is a reference to the vats in F1.
'VATS' is the replacement for the aiming system from the previous games. It's something to give a little turn-based back to the real time games, although to be honest it's really just a cheap way to get easy kills and survive cars exploding right beside you. If you right click your active slot it'll cycle through firing modes, including targeted shots. Unarmed might be a punch, targeted punch, kick, and targeted kick, for example. A pistol probably only has normal and aimed shots. An assault rifle or SMG would have normal, aimed, and burst modes. Mini-guns only have burst.

Honest Hearts has some great ideas but falls so short also I'm sorry I really wish Joshua was in the main game not as DLC he's such a massive part of Fallout lore it's just kind of silly he gets brushed aside in the main game
Be sure to run through Honest Hearts as well before you do Lonesome Road. It makes LR that much better.
Sounds good. Its weird cuz at the end of Dead Money they pretty much told me to go to the Big Empty.
also when I first played Dead Money I was 100+ in Energy Weapons profiency so the Holorifle was basically a fucking gift from god I am so incredibly sorry for any of my (plebian) non energy weapon brothers who went through that DLC
also when I first played Dead Money I was 100+ in Energy Weapons profiency so the Holorifle was basically a fucking gift from god I am so incredibly sorry for any of my (plebian) non energy weapon brothers who went through that DLC
To be honest, my character had like a 50 skill and I walked through that DLC, combat wise. One VATS shot to the head was usually enough. If they didn't lose a limb, I just swapped to a melee weapon and sliced it off.
real talks though Energy weapons in Fallout 3 is a complete waste of time Energy weapons in New Vegas are so fucking fun I played EW in 3 and was just saddened by how little support there was but oh god New Vegas one of the things I loved in New Vegas is no matter how you play you'll look at stores and see toys for skills you can't use and you'll always go "Fuck, that looks fun as hell." Like, even as an Energy weapons specialist I'd see Mantis gloves or Anti-Matierial Rifles and just have to step back and go daaaamn but the Matter Modulator at the REPCONN facilities and the classic plasma rifle from Fallout 2 make me forget these woes
I swear if Fallout 4 has as many essential characters as Skyrim I will beat Todd Howard with a massive dildo.
Essential characters are terrible in general. I'm sure it's difficult to be able to move a story forward even when you've crushed the skulls of literally everyone who could possibly be involved, but having that freedom is pretty valuable in an RPG

I did this three times to the same NPC by accident.
I always wanted to enjoy dead money, the villa is a beautiful place but it feels awfully cramped. everything up to and past when you activate the gala feels linear as fuck. It's got a great atmosphere but I want to explore damnit.

THAT'S FUCKIN' IT
I swear if Fallout 4 has as many essential characters as Skyrim I will beat Todd Howard with a massive dildo.
If Fallout 4 is as dumbed down as Skyrim was compared to previous games i will be very disappointed. E.g. Essential unkillable characters everywhere, your choices have no impact on the world and you can't fail anything. Considering how successful Skyrim was it wouldn't surprise me if they did have those things in the game. I really hope they don't, though.
I pray to any fucking deity who'll listen they'll at least use some of the gameplay from New Vegas. I know that they're going to use Fallout 3 lore where things don't need to connect to Fallout series and I can accept that sin but at least use things like the companion wheel the fact that's not in Skyrim is just silly but please Bethesda have actual good sidequests have skillpoints mean soemthing have it actually be an RPG have branching paths please why
to be honest I don't really care about anything else done to fallout 4 but if it has essential NPCs like Skyrim I'll be upset.

From what I read, it was made so that no matter what choices you made, they would be canon.
I've played Fallout 3 5 tims I think New Vegas only 3 times, but that's at least 40+ horus each I played Skyrim for 5 hours and went "FUCK IT"
The story of Dead Money was so well written though. Not only that. it was sad. This dude builds this whole villa to keep the love of his life safe, but she was just in it to steal his money. Not just her, everyone was. The construction companies cut corners everywhere, causing the villa to literally fall apart even while they were still building it. Dean Domino consopired with her to steal his money. And he was only able to find out near the end, turning the place that was supposed to keep people safe into a prison to stop Dean and Vera from stealing his money and to trap them forever.
Somehow, as much as I love fallout, I hate the turn-based movements in 1&2. I just can't get used to it. But funnily enough I like Heroes of Might and Magic. But I hated the gameplay. Plus, it wouldn't work for the modern day if they remade it. It's simply not popular enough.
An entire genre and all of its inhabitants would like a word with you..

Turn-based is better than the new "streamlined" VATS system they have going..
I pray to any fucking deity who'll listen they'll at least use some of the gameplay from New Vegas.
What Bethesda needs to work on is making the world believable and considering how the players actions affect the world.

I started playing Fallout 3 again earlier, and for some reason when i go into Moriarty's saloon the game freezes after a while. The same thing happened last time i tried to play the game a few months ago, and i didn't figure out how to fix it. Anyone had the same problem?

Could someone send me in the right direction of getting the latest version of Monster Mod for FNV?
