I always thought that what actually unlocked it was in the computer's in the bunker and the chip was just engraved to with really tiny patterns (made by lasers, which Fallout actually has) that are read by the computer. I didn't think it was a storage device at all.
House tells you that it is a storage device in the conversation about the chip. Other than that, no idea.
Apologies if this is late, but 1, 2, and Tactics are all FREE on GOG! http://www.gog.com/promo/fallout_series_giveaway_winter_promo_2013 Okay yeah it looks like I'm late, I'll leave it anyway though in case somebody didn't see it. Sorry.
tank you so much <3 EDIT: i love you (no homo)
So I am having a bit of trouble really getting into Fallout 1. I love it, but one thing that continues to piss me off is that my guy misses a lot of his shots at point blank range, even when he has an overwhelmingly high percent chance to hit. Is there any way to remedy this?
that's just how old RPG's work kiddo the odds are never in your favour

ok i just had a great idea, i'm gonna try to replace windows 7 sounds with fallout sounds, any ideas for some? (ding, error, exclamation, etc)

If they're long yeah, but I just mean the default Windows sounds are light and non-abrasive for a reason. You're going to hear them a lot. Especially closed programs.
I used to do stuff like this when I was a kid. It gets irritating. Various firing noises would work well for short notices like closed programs, etc..
I did this when I got Win8 with various sounds from Source. It's all about choosing non-intrusive sounds and sounds that won't piss you off or startle you when they come on. For example, the "Sorry, can't do that" sound is assigned to be the sound that unopenable Combine locks make, and whenever I plug in a USB stick, it makes a pigeon cooing/fluttering noise. You don't pick things that are long and out-of-place. Honestly, I found the default sound scheme to be more aggravating than anything I could conjure up.
Define 'overwhelmingly high.' See also; X-COM Effect.
I can be right next to a mole rat, have a 93% chance to hit, and miss three consecutive times in a row. I've heard Agility defines how well you use guns but I am not sure if that is true or not, and my Agility is 7. It also might be partially due to still only having my 10mm (I had made it farther into the game and got my hands on some new weapons but quit because my friends wanted me to do something else) which doesn't do as well compared to some of the other guns, but that couldn't just be sheer luck or coincidence.
that's just how old RPG's work kiddo the odds are never in your favour
Actually I've been replaying FO1 and I've gotten pretty consistent kills with my high chances. I guess he's just having a string of really bad luck.

Or because it decided you should walk backwards for 30 seconds for no reason.

I don't know how many times a simple rock ruined my sneak attacks or there are like 4 enemies and my character decides to move to a corner just to get killed in slow motion.

Especially when VATS and its damage resistance ends just before it explodes. :suicide:
So I found a replica Lincoln's repeater in the H and H tools factory in New Vegas (Probably a mod that put it there) I then managed to instantly kill a sentry bot with the thing (It happens to do AMR levels of damage) It really says something when you can have a hyper-advanced laser rifle that can't burn the pubic hairs off a common raider but then you take a ~350 year old rifle and it proceeds to blow the head clean off on an unstoppable tank on wheels.

so i've installed fixt 6.1 as well as the 6.4 zip to fallout 1 but this keeps happening in windowed mode no matter what changes i make to the settings. this also happens to fo2 with the restoration project mod installed in windows mode.

Not so sure on FO2 with RP, typically that fixes fucked up things caused by explorer.exe.

Combat for Fallout Tactics is crazy as fuck.
Combat for Fallout Tactics is crazy as fuck.
Depends on what combat system you're using. Individual or squad turn-based is fine. I haven't tried real-time, but after reading a bunch of guides for general squad composition all hinging on real-time and complaining about turn-based being "unfair," - which is laughable - I decided to stick to squad-based. It works out ridiculously well in some cases, as well. Especially later on.
Restarted my Gordon Freeman RP in New Vegas after fixing my computer. Have decided to only use pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, revolvers, thrown explosives, missile launchers, melee weapons and the holorifle in combat. Took the Fast Shot and Four Eyes traits. Decided to tag Small Guns, Melee Weapons and Science; also chose to never level up Speech ever. Now I'm wondering what the Fallout equivalents to the crossbow, bugbait and gravity gun are. I looked in the nexus and couldn't find any crowbar mods. I'm sad.
