The best thing about caps is that you can find them with pre-war money in safes in destroyed houses
like before the bombs fell people just figured caps were going to be important enough to put in safes
Rarity, there are few bottle cap presses left and the people in the Hub who control them decided to make it a second currency they could control without the NCR's oversight. Though I doubt bottlecaps would be worth anything in the NCR, they're worth quite a lot in a neutral area where the NCR and the Legion are currently at war.
[editline]17th December 2013[/editline]
What are the NCR going to do? When the people who control your water supply decide to give a better deal for caps then caps will become a decent currency. Though given the abundance of NCR dollars in New Vegas I'd say the dollar is still widely used inside the NCR, hell the NCR will only pay its people in dollars. Though that's also probably a sign of heavy inflation.
Those are good points (what does Alice Lafferty at CCC have to say on this subject? Most of what I said is what I remembered from conversations with her). Might there be some real-world reasons as well? I don't know what currency Van Buren was going to use, but it might be the case that they couldn't change Beth's bottlecap system in the time available (note that NCR$ and Legion money has multiple denominations, which is not possible in caps), or maybe even a stipulation of Obsidian making the game, for some (marketing) reason.

I used to collect caps when I was little.:v:
I only had about three, though.
imagine the dude who had aspirations to become the greatest bottle cap collector in the world, then the currency is suddenly shifted to bottle caps and he can't get any of those meaningless little things that he could before
;_;
I never realized until I started taking Philosophy courses how well the factions apply to the political spectrum.
I'm sure I'm like, as late as shit to discover this but I thought it was cool that they sort of operate on all 4 ends of the compass

Yeah, the Legion are almost a pure Fascist state, aside from the reluctance to use modern technology.
Expansionists, Isolationists, and Fascists. All we're missing is the reds and we have a great concoction of antagonistic ideologies!
If I'm not mistaken, caps are a currency backed by the Hub much the same way that any paper money or coin nowadays is backed by its respective country.
Caps are a currency because the Hub basically willed it.
NCR dollars are worth jack shit because it's based on water. It used to be based on gold, but the brotherhood had managed to destroy the NCR's stock of it.
I'm trying to do the Russel mods quest but I keep crashing at the battle of silverwood thing.
Someone suggested putting this in the console "setstage xx005c11 164"
The only fucking problem is, when I put the mod index number where the xx is, it doesnt fucking work

So I'm pretty much fucking stuck here crashing
It's pissing me the fuck off
[editline]17th December 2013[/editline]
The rest of the quest is great but its just this bullshit
Someguy basically said to go into the GECK and disable some of the enemies as a last resort.
I recall hearing that a low enemies version was up as a possibility, but since Someguy isn't modding anymore it's unlikely we'll see it come up.
I think that's one of the reasons I love New Vegas so goddamn much
Yes I'm a relentless Black Isle fanboy, but also I really love the openness for dicussion
Sure it's not like in Mass effect where you see choices play out but still having the idea that you leave the fate of this state in your hands and you get to decide the perfect system of govenrment is such a cool idea for a piece of fiction
It's kind of cool learning about yourself what you'd do if you had the power and what others would do
For instance, I found out all of my friends chose NCR on their first playthrough. My friends are all losers, apparently, who hate fun.
(I chose Mr House.)
What I don't get about caps is how people keep a large amount of them, there aren't any 100 cap bills so what do wealthy people do? drag around a massive sack filled with bottlecaps?
I think I chose House on my first playthrough, as well. Mostly because he probably was the only faction that seemed to even remotely, as falsely as it may have been, given a shit about the PC at all. But, then again, all of the main factions couldn't give two shits less about you.

That's pretty much how the world worked up until about the 17th or 18th century, yes.
So yea, 10 luck is op as fuck. Found the motion detector, then immediately found the stealth boy.
10 luck is like
walk into any casino
start playing Blackjack
leave when you get kicked out
it's not even fun
10 luck is like

However, at this point, 10 luck is the only thing keeping me alive.
Can someone help me find a specific mod? Its a container thats accessed through the Mod Configuration Menu that houses all weapons and items in the game including mod items.
I thought it was called the Bag of Holding but that just turned out to be a literal bag for holding shit which is accessed through the Mod Config Menu but I'm sure the mod Im looking for used the same name so maybe it was an addition or something. Anybody know what Im talking about?

Creation engine can handle some big battles by standards of the last console gen, 30 v 30 and stuff. But I just tested 50 v 50 and 20 fps hit.
I have a feeling that Creation Engine as an exponential limit on how many npcs there can be fighting against each other.
Wow, were you really just waiting for the opportunity to flaunt your PC specs? Nobody needs to see the whole damn DXDiag. Keep it in your pants.
Besides, it isn't about being able to handle it. any PC worth its salt could handle a big Creation/Gamebryo battle. It is that large amounts of NPCs tend to wear on the engine and cause crashes (especially in Gamebryo) and the games themselves tend to have very small battles because Bethesda is afraid to push the engine out of fear of crashes or other bugs.

Don't worry. Either he was burned alive, or he he had his skin flayed off and turned into a ghoul.
Also, holy shit do you ever think about that? The ghouls from pre-war times? They've fucking lived to see society fall and rise.
Is there a mod that allows the player to switch between male or female variants of clothing? Because I prefer the female version of the leather armour;

[sp]sorry, I don't know if a mod exists as such; there are mods that allow cosmetic changes, perhaps one might have a sex change in there provided you aren't iffy about that[/sp]

If you don't mind your guy suddenly developing tits, then sure, it probably exists.

Dawg, this PC is like an old workhorse; absolutely nothing to show off about.
The point of it was to show that a pc build around the same time as Skyrim came out would function with Creation Engine's large battles.
And also, that Creation engine is an improvement with NPC optimization from gamebryo. Try having a 30 vs 30 NCR soldier and legionary fight in gamebryo, and it'll be waay less stable.

to be fair you CAN walk through it, just not without taking some damage with you!
The Legion blew up a large reserve of NCR gold, weakening the currency. The casinos also highly undervalue the NCR dollar (and more so the Legion coins) meaning NCR money is basically worthless in the Mojave. Caps are a more valuable currency because the NCR doesn't control the pressing of caps and the casinos treat caps as having the same value as NCR dollars, meaning the NCR dollar, currently backed by water, is worth as much as money backed by nothing.
ACTUALLY the Brotherhood of Steel did that.
"However, by 2281, the money was no longer backed by gold, after the Brotherhood of Steel destroyed NCR's gold reserves."
The onyl gripe I have with the War Zones mod is that when I see jackals I'm fucking terrifed because I don't know if they got grenade rifles on them. I swear each encounter with the fuckers has ended up with crippled legs because the cunts are packing 2-3 nade rifles per group.
I issue a challenge to whoever owns fallout 1 ( Probably everyone knowing that it was free ).
And yes it will be hard.
Challenge Rules
1. Everything must be set to hard
2. One Death = You failed the challenge
3. No Saves Allowed ( Or else You'll be saving before each fight )
4. You must drop your starting items ( Optional )
5. Once you return the water chip you win
Feeling lucky?

Anyone have a good name for this challenge?

Sneak and high charisma might also be a good idea. I recall something about super mutants and ghouls.
