Playing FO3 and getting that lovely old vibe back again.
apart from the drifting and the strange wonk pistol run animation
the drifting is funny now more than anything, took bethesda how many games to get rid of it.
I don't think I would. They might as well just make a game about gang wars in Los Angeles or something because by the time Fallout: new Vegas rolls around quite a lot of the Boneyard is rebuilt and fairly industrialized.
That is what I hate about 2 and New Vegas compared to 1 and 3. It doesn't feel like there was even a nuclear war. I liked 3's setting the best and didn't think it really "shat on Fallout" like everybody (especially yourself, Mr. Slamfist) seems to think. I mean, the whole BoS become all goody-two-shoes was really, really stupid and didn't even make sense in the context of the game; wouldn't they have preferred to keep the BoS a bunch of assholes considering the DC Wasteland was even nastier and more horrible than the Core Region? It would have gelled better with the rest of the game. However, I feel like the Enclave returning (I think they were actually always in DC at Raven Rock, and that they were simply awaiting something like the purifier to come along either by making it themselves or waiting for someone else to make it) was fine and the super mutants, while contrived, weren't upsetting.
I guess I just prefer an actual apocalyptic setting over what essentially amounts to a western with a pretty coat of paint.
[editline]22nd December 2013[/editline]
The setting doesn't work anywhere else. The whole "crazed McCarthyian US" is what sets it apart from most post-apocalyptic settings. I feel like that is a central part of the games and removing that is essentially removing the "Fallout" part of "Fallout".
I mean, I guess a spin-off could work because I am a bit interested in how the rest of the world shaped up, but in the end I feel like the whole point of the games being in the US also has to do with isolation; information and travel have trickled to an all time minimum. An age of war and violence has led us into another Dark Age, much like the previous one before (for those who don't know what I am referring to, due to it not being called this anymore, I am talking about the Early Middle Ages), with bloated superpowers getting too powerful, to wasteful, and bringing the world to ruin. History repeats itself.
I'd be okay with LA gang wars as long as we get some greasers. "Who we? We A to the B to the Tops, can you dig it daddy-o?"
I'm just glad everyone's through that "Aloha, smoothskin!" phase..
I'd love to see a re-make of 1 and 2 in the 3d engine. I'd play that so hard.

Aloha Smoothskin is always on the table.
I want post-apoc games in other parts of the world.
No offense to americans, it's just that it feels saturated.
Every time I see this mentioned, at least in regards to Fallout (as I see you said post apoc games in general), people never fail to gather together to bombard the suggester with reasons why Fallout should never step foot outside American soil.

And this is one of the only legitimate reasons I've heard against it.

Hey you best not be talkin' shit 'bout Aloha Smoothskin
Might not be the best concept for a game but it was a good PNP that lead to an even better Fallout PNP

I won't deny it was funny, but it honestly wouldn't make a good game.

It was more like an OK PnP that lead to an even better PnP. Although it was the introduction of the two greatest heroes known to man.
Just finished New Vegas.
This asshole walked through the entire credits and I don't think I've ever laughed that hard.

He was on a circuit, so he passed every slide or so, honestly I wish I was filming it was insane
He's looking for the narrator.
I almost feel like the narrators were getting pissed with him
"and so the mojave was changed- for get the fuck out of the shot you asshole"
God, I hope VATS in FO4 feels more like RDR's Dead-Eye instead of an interruption of the action/tertiary pause-button.

I always figured that if there was a multiplayer version of FO3/NV, that's what VATS would have to be.
TBH though, Bethesda needs to beef up FO4 as a shooter as a major priority.
FFS, the FPS genre used to be their pedigree before Morrowind came and their games became a constant slough of RPGRPGRPGRPG, why is FO3 so clunky as a shooter.
[editline]22nd December 2013[/editline]
No, of course not dumb down the RPG elements, but not have gunplay that plays like a war in the 1700s.
I just want Obsidian back on the project so bad.

If you're going to have an FPSRPG, it had better be functional as both.
For the next game they need to fix third person aiming.
You know, looking at the BoS game intro.
Tony Jay would have been an awesome narrator.
Shame he's dead.

They need a new game engine in general.

We need a mod for this.
Just make the dude constantly follow you and fuck you over ( Steal ammo from corpses you killed, whenever you talk to him he cusses at you.)
also he'll need a good name.

He's talking about post-apoc in general not specifically fallout.
I think just about everyone knows why Fallout doesn't work beyond the US.
The only thing that comes close to Fallout and isn't set in the US is the Mad Max franchise which served as an inspiration for the original Fallout and Wasteland games.
And yet there isn't that much hype for the new Mad Max game.
So me and Benny decided to settle our differences with a friendly game of pool, like all gentlemen do.

It's actually Cannibal Johnson, since he'd beat Hoover Dam, but holy shit yes I nominate the ghost of Arch Dornan coming back from the grave to haunt my ass again.

also I bet I'm going to hell for this but I think I honestly do like F03's version of the Enclave armor over 2

It looks like a shoddier version of the armor from Tactics.
