You have good intuition.
the ambience music does creep me out a bit.
EEEEEEEEH. I don't really notice a problem. So far, all I've seen is a couple of new guns, but mostly either classic / legacy Fallout weapons (like the Wattz laser weapons, FO3 guns that didn't make it into NV, etc) or NV weapons with updated lore names or realistic names (Such as the laser rifles being referred to as their AER model numbers, etc). I can't really notice what you're saying about the "tacticool" thing and a look through the mod with the GECK doesn't seem to help that either.
I mean guns like this: http://static2.nexusmods.com/15/mods/130/images/34684-1-1309292869.jpg http://static2.nexusmods.com/15/mods/130/images/34684-1-1309247903.jpg They generally don't fit with the style of the game world (slightly undersized or far too clean and pretty. And I actually kinda like the distance from the real world the lore places itself with by having different names for real life guns; for some reason, it helps me with the immersion. It is meant to be an alternate future, after all; seeing guns that are on the decline in usage now (the original AK-47 with the non-slanted muzzle was manufactured for a mere handful of years before the AKM came out, for example) 260 years in the future just irks me.

I have no issue with the appearances of the AKs or the pistol, and by the weapon names I'm assuming you know what I meant, where the in-game plasma defender is changed to be named "glock 86 plasma pistol" and the Plasma Caster is changed to "Winchester P94" in accordance to classic Fallouts
You have good intuition.
take off, Dead Money was fab
Now i've somehow managed to make the game crash on startup :/ Gonna have to start from scratch. EDIT: broke my automerge :c
I think an AK47 is fine, the M14-16 does exist in New Vegas and the AK was built in the 40's. The only problem would be is its a commie weapon and would probably be very hard and rare to find it in post war America.

I will agree they're a tad too clean, but I'd imagine by the time NV takes place people have learned to, you know, take care of their weapons..
I don't think the fact it's a "commie weapon" changes much
I completely forgot that thing existed
Aren't most weapons produced by the Gun Runners at this point? Why would they need to be dirty?
people wearing dirty unkept clothes always bothered me the same with living in run down 200+ year buildings its like paint and maintenance workers ceased to exist.
Aren't most weapons produced by the Gun Runners at this point? Why would they need to be dirty?
It's not just the dirt, though (also, i'm not referring to dirt as a matter of realism, but as a matter of aesthetics/atmosphere). What kind of moron manufactures AK-47s 260 years in the future? The AK-74 uses a superior round (and is basically the Russian equivalent to the Chinese assault rifle) and is not more complicated to manufacture. AK-47s that would still exist would almost invariably not be new ones. EDIT: It's reputation for durability is heavily exaggerated; I used an RK-95 in my military service (which is basically an AK-47 with too much time spent on it's manufacture), and those things rust easily like any other gun, jam in unfavourable conditions etc. I forgot to clean the part of the stock that contains the cleaning kit, and within a week there was rust there.

The AK for example is around 70 years old now but many nations still use it as a basic rifle, even modified versions of it.

The AK for example is around years old now but many nations still use it as a basic rifle, even modified versions of it.
That still leave the question of why the AK-47 and not the 74. Since the majority of militaries in the world today that aren't glorified militias (one can safely say that sub-Saharan Africa never managed to get troops on US soil as opposed to China), have supplanted the 47 with the 74 that would certainly mean ammo for the latter would be far more common. Meh, now i'm debating in a direction i'd rather not; my original and primary complaint with the 47 is aesthetic; I much prefer the look of e.g. the Chinese assault rifle in terms of how it fits with the general post-apocalyptic wasteland feel. Using different names also helps me feel like it is actually an alternate universe (e.g. service rifle as opposed to M16A1)
that's assuming the fallout universe developed the 74 though again, if you want to be an 'alternate universe' and cut yourself out of a lot, feel free to also I have yet to see an AK after a good amount of time spent with FOOK installed food for thought
personally if i see a gun in a fallout game i don't want it to be called "AK-47" or "M16", i like stuff like the chinese assault rifle where it looks alot like a real weapon but its not directly called a AK-47 or the equivalent
My Nexus Mod Manager can't connect to Nexus. What else is new. This always happens when I want to mod NV.

The ones that are (such as the Service Rifle being named the AR-15, which IMO should be AR-10 (I'm going to go change that now, actually.)) seem fitting for the most part and are selected from what they're clearly modeled after (if not mentioned in Fallout lore, such as the Caravan shotgun is very similar to the Browning B525) but yes, I'll concede there are that shouldn't have changed or should have added rather than replacing (the trail and brush carbines.. well I actually can't really tell which is which. Good thing I don't use them :v:) also, as far as a quick look in the GECK shows, FOOK-PN Convergence (NOT including WMXUE/WME/EVE) doesn't have 99% of these name changes and only do when there's conflict between the two (which is far and few between) [editline]29th December 2013[/editline]
My Nexus Mod Manager can't connect to Nexus.
if you're a stubborn bastard I hope you've already tried updating it to the latest version.
I just got FOMM, got tired of dealing with the nexus mod manager.
I just got FOMM, got tired of dealing with the nexus mod manager.
the only thing NMM has going for it is the download via option, which never worked for me to begin with
My FOMM's package manager doesn't work properly with Fallout 3. When I click it and sign in, nothing happens and I can't do anything. It's like the program stops responding but according to the task manager (the only way to close it) it's still running properly.

[editline]29th December 2013[/editline] also, heh, wow Southeast Vegas is ROUGH with IWS. I don't think I'll be completing Three Card Bounty any time soon.
did you mean NMM?
Nope, I mean FOMM.
With IWS, it made hitting enemies a lot easier. Cleaning out Primm for the first time just involved me standing on the wrecked railings, firing all my ammunition at a cluster of convicts who, for some reason, never got past the caution stage and just walked into a specific point on the wall.
Nope, I mean FOMM.
what exactly do you mean by 'sign in' then..? I've never seen anything account-related on FOMM. I'd imagine you're running the latest version? I'm using .13.21 with no issues. [editline]29th December 2013[/editline]
With IWS, it made hitting enemies a lot easier. It should let you know what version you're running in the upper left corner.
It should let you know what version you're running in the upper left corner.
That's the one I'm running.
Fuck it I'll do dead money and reload before I went to lonesome roads, I only got to the first town. My worst memory from dead money when I was casually sneaking and looting/opening lockers and doors, then I opened a tube and out popped this scary mother fucker with deep soul staring eyes from hell, I was crouching on the floor and the camera slowly panned up at her and she just gazed into me. Nearly flipped out. [editline]30th December 2013[/editline] oh look http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/XL70E3#XL70E3 AK-47 with its iconic design.
