So basically what you're saying is it's good as long as you wreck yourself in every other facet in order to make the terrible trait an OK trait
Don't want to spend shitloads of dosh on ammo for the P90s? Why not get a .44 revolver with a speedloader, dump 6 shots into your target for 2AP each and reload for 1AP
Or you could just get a Gauss pistol and shoot multiple opponents in the eye for basically one hit kills. The fact of the matter is you'll basically the plugging away at deathclaws with a low damage weapon because you can't aim for headshots.
Fast Shot is alright if you intend to use a minigun or something, some weapon that can't be "aimed" anyways
oh damn I didn't know the GRA Battle Rifle was a fucking M1 Garand. Between this and my fully modded hunting rifle, it's time to sell my soul for .308 ammo.
WRONG. Fast shot, small guns at 150+, Bonus ROF, Action Boy, 10 Luck, Sniper, and two P90cs, everyfuckingthing within range is dead. In one FO2 playthrough, i could do 4 bursts with the two P90cs, and with Sniper, that did several hundred points of damage at a time. I absolutely fucking shredded Frank Horrigan.

So it's not pointless to go past 100% in each skill?

The NCR Quartermaster Bardon in Hoover Dam has shitloads of bullets. But he dissapears if you complete "Don't Tread On The Bear!"
On my latest stealth playthrough (the only way to play other than pacifict) the "greatest" of the Legion's frumentarii, Vulpes Inculta approached me with an invitation. When I questioned if it was genuine, Vuples said if Caesar wanted me dead I'd be dead. The espionage gauntlet had been thrown down so obviously he had to die. So now his dapper suit and hat are mine and he's lying dead in the middle of the Strip.
Fast shot is by an large the worst trait in fallout 1/2, which is what he's talking about.
It's pretty great in new vegas but it's shit in fallout 1/2
Shots to the eyes, head and crotch are very likely to produce massive critical hits in fallout 1/2 and not being able to do those shots will gimp you pretty bad.
Too bad I didn't know.
Too bad I didn't know.
Just use a fully auto weapon, or switch over to using big guns if you have the character strength. A Bozar or minigun will greatly benefit from fast shot.
Other than for big guns and slayer, you really need to design a character specifically for fast shot, it's not really a useful trait for "average" characters.
I never liked traits. So I am thinking about getting 'Trigger Discipline' and 'Fast Shot' :v:
I went to vault 108.
So it's not pointless to go past 100% in each skill?
When i said that, i mean non-combat skills, going above 100 with the combat skills gives you a higher and higher chance with diminishing returns to make a hit. Going above 150 is nearly a waste though, since there's never certainty on anything in those games, including getting hits at 95% certainty, missing is still a possibility.

You're really underestimating the usefulness of Fast shot, you don't get a Gauss pistol until late game, and you can get a .44 revolver in the Den. It's great with the lesser enemies nearby, but the be all end all of weapons is the p90c in terms of killing shit. You can use single shot for weaker enemies to save ammo and AP, and bursts to tear bigger ones completely apart. As for the 10 luck, that's easy to get, just have 7 from the beginning and get the Hubologist scans in NCR and San Fran, instant 10 luck. Coupled with Sniper at level 24, absolutely nothing is a danger to you.
You're also not wrecking yourself in every facet, you may not be able to aim, but you can still fuck everyone up. Take for example, a non-instadeath critical headshot may do 100-200dmg with a gauss rifle, which eats too much AP to be a good thing for soloing groups of tough enemies. A burst from a p90c with JHP 10mm ammo and sniper perk will break that by far, in a single turn with the prereqs i stated in my above post and two p90cs, you can fire 48 10mm JHP/AP rounds, at 12 damage each base, that's over 400 damage if all 4 bursts hit every single round, get sniper and those criticals will break 300-400 in each burst. The highest a living beings health can be is 999, including yours and Frank Horrigan's.
If you need a bit more proof, here's a screenshot i took today, which i cropped to the infobar at the bottom of the screen.

Sure it was used on an unarmored target, but that was JHP ammo, use AP ammo on a target with armor, and their shit is wrecked.

ya but oddly enough the box next to him has his entire inventory, that or you can go see him in the cell in the airport and he still has his entire inventory in his pocket. unlike every other merchant in the game, everything he has is in his personal inventory so you can just buy stuff, take the caps out of his pocket, buy more stuff, take caps back until he is out of stuff

No, that's the guy in McCarran Airport Base. The Quartermaster in Hover Dam and the Great Khan selling-stuff lass both use Fallout 3's thingy for producing merchant inventories which is why they get wierd stuff like Power Armour and milllions of bullets.

Actually, there's a bug in FO1/2 that makes AP ammo less effective than JHP all the time.
Besides, while that is a rather sound argument for taking fast shot, what happens at the beginning of the game when you have no guns at all? I often start over because I don't have the patience to fight golden geckos without being able to cripple their legs. It only seems like it pays off when you manage to find effectively limitless ammo.
And yet they're more stable than PC versions, so I hear.
Tell that to all the Fallout 3 players who got trapped in a vault because the door only opened from the outside. Or the FNV players who's savegames get so bloated that the PS3 cannot load them properly and just crashes.

Indeed. This Machine is a unique variant that was in the base game and does even more damage. The guy that gives it to you also sells .308 by the thousand. Literally.
Go hit up Sgt Contreras in the back of Camp McCarran. Do his quests. Get badass Garand. Wreck face.

There's the Mutate perk,so you can change to it later after getting a firm footing. Also in Klamath: [sp] You can get a 10mm pistol in the rat caves, it's near Keeng Ra'at, so don't let him spot you until you get it.[/sp] Also i usually use the Unofficial patch, which fixes that bug.
Is this what everyone in this thread is doing? Just posting about mods and lore and shit?
Man we NEED some FO4 info to spice this thread up.

You do that and come back when you've got some. We'll be waiting, good luck.
Just had a realization, i'm playing my first ever explosives oriented character in FONV, and i gotta say, the 25mm APW is far better than any of the 40mm launchers. It may not do as much damage, but the range, RoF and capacity makes up for it. I also had an idea, is there a mod that adds something like HEAT rounds? I think it would be pretty fucking neato to have some rounds that explode and pierce armor really well, but not have shit for radius. TO THE GECK!
I need some help here, i want to fix my issue with my fission battery grenade, i used the model from the game, but it is rotated to where the top goes through the character's hands, can anyone tell me how to move the animation node to the middle and rotate it where the top faces up?

oh i was confused because the guy in mccarran actually has a million rounds of .303 ammo which is the hardest ammo to buy for some reason

huh. That's actually a really good idea. HEAT 25mm and 40mm grenades would be a pretty good on-the-cheap counter to power armor, actually.

Yeah, and with my somewhat limited knowledge of shaped charges, i can balance them pretty easily, but making a particle effect for the blast is not exactly something i know how to do. Gonna get to work on that HEAT ammo mod, should i make them craftable, buyable, or both?
huh. That's actually a really good idea. HEAT 25mm and 40mm grenades would be a pretty good on-the-cheap counter to power armor, actually.
you can use the pulse-grenades or the pulse variant of the 40mm grenade can decimate power-armor troops. the other cheap thing you can do to counter power-armor is to get a boat load of 5.56 AP and something like the LMG or a marksman carbine and either spray them with AP or with the marksman just plink their head till they die
[editline]6th April 2014[/editline]
some HEAT rockets would be cool too for the red-glare or the standard missile launcher

Pulse grenades are good for power armor and robots, but not much else, this is intended to be a middle-ground between a good soft and hard target round. A direct hit from a HEAT round is gonna certainly fuck someone up, but those pulse rounds won't do much to a squishy. Also, how should i go about this? Add a -15DT modifier to the ammo, or make the explosion really powerful, but condensed into a very small radius?
Are there any guns/gun mods that are particularly good at crippling? Deathclaws are making me miss the Dart Gun from fallout 3, but that thing was way too OP.
Install signature weapons
Kill deathclaws with starter straight razor
OK, i'm getting ready to start testing my HEAT ammo mod that i had just finished. I've opted to make it a crafting only ammotype. I've also combined the idea of a really powerful but small blast and AP capabilities, so it's gonna tear everything a new asshole. You practically lose the ability to effectively carpet bomb an area, so direct hits are almost required.
Well, i learned something new, one, NPCs seem to take explosion damage based on how close the blast radius is to their feet, and two, blast radius on my 40mm round is too high. Other than that, these rounds are fantastic.
TTW makes the trouble on the homefront quest a bit interesting. So far, the wall/door to the overseer's office was closed, I had to use the Colonel Autumn Pistol glitch to open the switch. The other door was [requires key]'d.
