Yeah that was a problem in Broken Steel. Bethesda forgot how popular mods were for the game when they scripted the initial quest for BS, so they only programmed it for the four races and two genders they put in the game.
The script is pretty easy to edit, though. I, too, run a custom race and have no trouble starting Broken Steel. If you want I'll refresh my memory on how i did it and share the details.
Wait, what's this?
Jesus fuck that's pretty crazy. My game refuses to load and run properly with more than 80 plugins without TTW and no amount of merged patches or mod cleaning will convince it otherwise.

I could never find any custom races in Fallout 3 or NV. I'd probably never use them if I did find some though (except for the robot one).
SUCCESS! I have installed Tales of Two Wastelands!
Funny now starting a new character made me do the Fallout 3 prologue, but I suppose it's to be proof that you got it to work.
TTW makes you start in Fallout 3 and as soon as you reach DC you can find a train and go to the Mojave.
You should install JIP Fast Travel Anywhere with the TTW compatibility patch, it's a great mod.
Can I find New Vegas Weapons in the Capital Wasteland?
Wait, what's this?
There was a mod for Fallout 3 called CRBSOR which overrided that script. But I can't get that to work with TTW, so I just manually edit the script in the plugin for the race mod I use instead. I replace a random human race with the one I'm using so it goes right through.
I could never find any custom races in Fallout 3 or NV. I could find ya a couple, but using them would...well...let's just say Facepunch and that sort of material don't get along well. And it isn't ponyshit. 'Tis why I never show my courier 'round here, either, it'd just start a flame war.
Broken steel i found a fix for. But it is the Tranquility Lane quest that fucks up and resets my character with one of the vanilla races. Do you know a fix for that?
I haven't had that glitch myself, so I usually play through TL, but there should be an official optional plugin floating around in your install somewhere that skips TL entirely since a lot of players seem to encounter that bug. I'm definitely in the minority having a mostly working Tranquility Lane.
Can I find New Vegas Weapons in the Capital Wasteland?
Yes. The .32 pistol was changed to use different ammunition, hunting rifles were changed to varmint rifles and single rifles and caravan shotguns because hunting rifles would be op as fuck, and most 10mm pistols are replaced with 9mm pistols instead.
Can I find New Vegas Weapons in the Capital Wasteland?
Everywhere. I even find weapons from NV-only mods in DC. Millenia's Gyrojet pops up a lot in raiders, and the Auto-Gauss, Gauss Minigun and Auto-Gauss Pistol pop up on BoS paladins during the Broken Steel quests.
I really wish TTW would work for me, the installation seems to freeze or something.
I really want to replay Fallout 3, but Fallout 3s combat mechanics, wepaon damage, weapon prices, etc are fucking gross. I get cancer every time I see a missile launcher that does 50 damage and costs 70 caps.
Yeah it does that. It can take a while. Start it before you go to bed one night and it should be waiting for you in the morn.
Edit: Unrelated to anything else, but it seems as though the Kerbals are breaking into the Fallout universe yet again.

Hey, I was wondering, if you go with yes man, [sp] Do you actually get to watch the securitrons take over and do your bidding? or is it some crappy slideshow cutscene? [/sp]
hey man dont diss epilogue slides
hey man dont diss epilogue slides
but i like to see the destruction they talk about.

its the same effect as house using his securitrons at the dam if im not mistaken, you just start off with a bunch of securotrons attacking the legion, and instead of house telling you stuff, its yes-man

You get 2 Securitrons to assist you in the final mission, and you can get a load of them to appear later. They don't do a huge amount but if you made sure to install the upgrade they do pretty fucking well in the fighting.
Funny things I've noticed.
When I played the note from Dad, there was no holotape sound to it, and it sounded like it was in person.
and I'm surprised they gave the buggy BB Gun from Fallout 3, why not use the BB Gun from New Vegas?
hey man dont diss epilogue slides
The Fallout Epilogue slides are literally the most satisfying end sequences ever.
If you thought the Legion assassins in New Vegas were cake then prepare your anus around level 12 for the Talon Company hitmen squad with LMGs and Reinforced Combat Armor MkII.
TTW is no fucking joke.
Only true way to play TTW anyway is to find a chainsaw as soon as you can and make it your signature weapon with the eponymous mod.

Oh christ.
Also so far this mod is going alright, only 1 crash, but probably because That's Gambryo for ya.

If you can survive Point Lookout you can survive anything in TTW.
What ever came out of the "theres more of the Three Dog coming" tease? Been quite a while but as far as I know, we still haven't heard anything have we?
Strange, that mod i uploaded has seen over 450 views, but only 4 people downloaded it. I figured that you guys might want to try it out and give me some feedback so i can improve on it.

I skimmed right over your post :(
I don't have the hand loader perk and I usually don't do any sort of ammobench or crafting bench stuff. It's actually really annoying how much ammo it takes to kill super mutants in TTW even with the bullet sponge fix, I'll try your mod out.
[editline]13th April 2014[/editline]
Installed and activated, I decided to just give myself a few levels to get the perk.
I don't see any new ammo types or anything new in the crafting bench.
Playing Fallout again and I'm at the Cathedral. I wish my character could sleep with Laura.
I'm installing TTW now. I'm sure it's gonna be it's own adventure.
I'm installing TTW now. I'm sure it's gonna be it's own adventure.
If you're like me and have a "slow" 32bit computer, then you're probably going to have to manually install.

Let us hear more of it when you start playing because I am interested in trying this out when I buy (from where I don't know) and beat F2.
It's possible to make a fat character on both games? Idk why but i was wondering how funny it would be being a fat dude trying to use something like the NCR armor

I don't think so, but that one fan-made film series does have a "fat" character. I mean, he's not skinny, but he's no whale either. I think that was a point in the series' story? I haven't watched any more than the first episode, so I'm not sure.

I have a pretty decent 64bit pc and as of now I'm 50 minutes in the installer program.
