So he doesn't want it to be anything like Fallout?
I am kinda being put off the idea that it will center around the companions
It's an interesting idea, not sure if it will work at all.
I just recently got back into fallout when it was on sale for dirt cheap recently. Wow, I sure was missing something with FO3. After coming from new vegas, I expected it to be essentially the same. Boy was I wrong. The story was (is) pretty damn good, and had/has some pretty amazing characters in it. So much so, that in finishing Trouble on the Homefront, I was on the brink of tears when [sp] Amata asked me to leave the vault -my childhood home-, and her, to ensure the safety of the vaults residents. It was all really great and also heartbreaking to see how the vault was in my absence. And it makes me happy that Amata, while just strings of code woven into an AI and speech system, will continue doing whats best for the vault.[/sp] I don't think I've ever had a game evoke so much emotion out of me before. Definitely my new favorite game.
The story was (is) pretty damn good, and had/has some pretty amazing characters in it..
Oh lordy.
When I see people thinking Fallout 3 is the first of the series, I weep
Oh lordy.
As much as I whole heartedly stand by my thoughts on New Vegas being the better game, it's not really a good thing to look down on people for thinking differently.
The only true atrocity here is that he didn't shoot that fucking bitch Amata's brains out with a .44 magnum and then eat them in full view of everyone.

[editline]14th November 2014[/editline] But come on, even if you like Fallout 3, you have to admit the plot is just not very good.

I mean it's bethsoft writing so it's obviously not one of the most groundbreaking or well done pieces of video game storytelling but it has some memorable moments and characters somehow some people like the bethsoft style of things more
remind me to never befriend you in the case of a nuclear apocalypse.
Just don't kick me out of any bunkers I save and you'll be fine. Unless you have cool armour or a cool gun.
When I see people thinking Fallout 3 is the first of the series, I weep
I didnt say I thought FO3 was the first. It has a three in the title for gods sake.
you played new vegas before 3? why would you do that?
Because I got it before FO3, I think through humble bundle or something like that.
you played new vegas before 3? why would you do that?
The order doesn't really matter with those two, it's not like plot carries over
The order doesn't really matter with those two, it's not like plot carries over
its more like gameplay carries over. If you play NV before 3, you might not be able to get the full FO3 experience. Especially because FO3's combat was majorly improved in NV to the point where some people may not be able to handle it.

Literally the only real change from 3 to NV was ammo types and iron sights. It's exactly the same besides that
true, they aren't related plot-wise but there are little throwbacks and what not to fo3 in fnv, considering fnv takes place like what, a few years later right?

[sp]At the time I had mostly played DnD-esque rpgs where everyone wins, so I wasn't expecting that ending in FO1 and got visibly mad at the Overseer[/sp]
There are a handful but not really enough to make it necessary shit I can't even remember off the top of my head a notable example where they reference it
Wasteland survival guide, the sales chart in the sunset sarsaparilla headquarters, references to the enclave being recalled back east, that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Oh, and the railway rifle in Mick and Ralph's shop I guess. None of those really scream "fallout 3 reference" though.

I will defend my personal view that New Vegas is better til the end of time, but if someone says they like 3 more I won't begrudge them. There are worse choices out there. I don't think 3 was perfect, but I had a great time with it regardless. I think anyone that says it was a bad game is being unreasonable.
The only thing I liked more about 3 is that 3 has a lot, lot more polish than NV.
Well, when you only have 18 months of development time while the other one had years of course NV is going to be less polished than Fallout 3.
It brews a deep, spiteful, burning, putrid hatred inside me every time I think about how NV could have been fucking perfect, if only it was given more time. Just... more... time...
I wish there were more guns like the laser RCW. More futuristic looking WW2 and Vietnam era weapons that fire lasers would be so sweet.
