also it's traditional for fallout games to just end
Well that's debatable
Fallout 1 ended, Fallout 2 didn't. The others are shootoff games, so they don't nessarily count
So I've just started my first play through of Fallout New Vegas, ever.
Are there any recommended mods that don't change much for a vanilla play through?
Mostly just graphics mods, and subtle changes, things that won't make the game crash an assload.
best way to experience new vegas is play through it completely vanilla and then shove a metric fuckton of mods in it until your game is gasping for air
thing with graphics mods is you either install a load and it all looks hd and sparkly but slow or you install a few and you have HYPER REALISTIC BOTTLES OF VODKA stacked on top of shelves made of wood that looks like it's been reposted on 10 different websites
Please, play it vanilla first. Mods can cause bugs and everything that are not intended and may influence the first time playing experience.
Playing a game vanilla the first time is my standard for every game.
he said no major changes, mostly just graphics and things that won't make the game crash.

He should still play it vanilla. It doesn't matter how little the mod changes, playing your first time with mods just is a terrible idea.

so the unofficial patches that fix stability and such?..
best way to experience new vegas is play through it completely vanilla
Graphics/FX mods like EVE, NMC's Textures, A Book of Water, wasteland clothing hires, and possibly a good ENB config are totally worth getting for your first playthrough. Better visuals and better quality textures only enhance the basic playthrough
playing it fully vanilla helps you appreciate the mods more when you use them
He should just use YUP and Fallout 4gb
the 4gb patch is the only thing you can use on a vanilla run
after that it's free game
alright, finished old world blues
fucking robots were annoying, killed them all but dr mobius
now i'm onto dead money, why can't i take these ghost people's masks so i don't have to worry about the toxic gas?
I think the bugs and crashes are part of the experience.
For example, sometimes I randomly see dead scorpion bodies flopping around on the ground and scurrying across the wasteland.
You can't get that if you install unofficial patches.
actually I think that YUP is the only unofficial NV patch that's not a bloated mess that breaks as much stuff as it fixes
well unless you count jsawyer.esp but that's more of a rebalance with a few fixes

Anti-Crash and Stutter Remover are very useful as well.
Been years since I've played through Fallout 3, going to do another playthrough.
Any recommended mods?
Specifically any that may not be in the top 100 and could be easily overlooked.

What sort of monster are you?!
I... I bet you side with the legion, steal toy guns from children, and don't even fix snuffles leg!
I wish stutter remover actually worked for me. I get worse fps with it

the suit just stopped the cloud from straight-up killing them like it does to you, which just meant they could live through the mutations. putting on the mask would just keep you alive long enough for you to turn into one of them. in fact it's implied that forcing people into the suits is how they reproduce
[editline]1st December[/editline]
what a fucking cool idea for an enemy though, just a bunch of straight up ghosts in the post-apocalypse
Despite some advice of staying just pure, I installed only some minor changes, Nevada skies, Enhanced Blood, EVE Essential Effects, and Project Reality(lighting and stuff).
I tried to install a few ENB's, but they never worked. They just do nothing, even when I drop the files in the right place.
Maybe it's for the better.

Which patch actually fixes that? I thought it was some kind of engine bug.

- this is a legion playthrough (first time)
- no
- i did fix snuffles' leg actually, none of the fuckers at sloan seemed grateful for it. i even got my medical skill up to 100 just in case of other shit.

Go into the config file in the NVSE folder in your data folder and disable the fps manager component. NVSR has a limiter that iirc is set to 30fps by default and is on by default.

The limiter is set to a minimum 15 fps, and maximum of 60. You can get a smoother fps by setting the min to 20 and the max to 30
Has anyone got a copy of the TTW WMX - EVE patch? It's refusing to download from the TTW site when I try. Looking for "ttw_wmx_eve_0.rar". Mad thanks in advance.
Plasma Caster or LAER? Which turns out better (weight is not a concern)? I'm using WMX and want in my next game to buy Boone a Anti-materiel rifle and go hunting Deathclaws and the like.

well everyone knows that laser guns are superior to plasma guns in every way possible, so the LAER

Snuffles is the only reason I bother with the medical skill.
Snuffles is the only reason I bother with the medical skill.
Same.
I play with so many combat realism mods that if a shot actually does connect with me it's already too fucking late for stims
Stop the wound, disinfect, remove bullet, morphine, and bandage. Stims dont even come into play most runs.
Medical skill is solely for everyone else.
Bartar skill is beyond pointless, especially once you reach gunrunners
Energy Weapons is kinda crap in NV because there is really only one place where you can get E.weapons
Melee Weapons while powerful is really lackluster because of how empty the "overworld" is.
Survival didn't really work either, even in hardcore it was only good for a few choice perks.
Like always you can get through the game easy with just gun and speech

did you even talk to any of them afterwards

That's basically how all of them have been. All the best builds in FO1 and 2 are small guns, speech, and lockpick. Not entirely sure about FO3, but i imagine it's not too far off. It does make sense though, in a post-apoc world those skills would be the most useful.

basically
Speech
Lockpicking
Science
Guns
Are the main 4 I'd max. Speech is goddamned good, I really hope they balance the skills in the next fallout game to not be as lopsided. Fallout 3 had energy weapons be op, and in fonv they are UP. I want them to find the perfect spot, so I can have fun using them.
At least fonv doesn't have fallout 3's int, that shit was insane.
Energy Weapons was viable in FO3 because the enclave soldiers everywhere were basically walking ammo refills.
