Energy Weapons was viable in FO3 because the enclave soldiers everywhere were basically walking ammo refills.
yes
the gatling laser was the greatest thing in fo3
The problem with speech, is that having a silver tongue often obsolesces a lot of skills.
You're usually using it to roll in caps/meds/ammo and skip fights/detours that would otherwise deplete those.
But if you remove all those chances to use speech, it suddenly becomes useless and niche.
Personally I've always been fond of Speech, Explosive, and Science/Repair as my main skills. I'm very fond of improvising weapons rather than simply relying on shooting everything in sight with pre-existing guns, and if I'm going to try and kill someone I usually set up a bomb further up a road from where they're walking and detonate it when they get close. Speech just comes into play in situations where using explosives would be ill-advised.
I've always wanted speech to be a little more in depth, maybe. Say more intricate and personalized that makes your character feel more unique, and easier to roleplay.
And I know you can get special speech options from skills other than speech, but it still feels rigid and fixed.
It's tough to think of a solution, I'm no game designer. Just a thought is all.
Edit:
And that would probably take some smart writing as well, which I don't think Bethesda are quite capable of... Obsidian maybe, but Bethesda.. nah.
Speech is a necessity if you want to do certain good endings, which I think is complete bullshit. It kinda forces the skill unto the player.

It's almost like shooting everything can't solve certain situations.

There is no situation on earth that cannot be solved by an excessive amount of high explosive.
Actually that does raise the question...
Is it possible to do a run in which you kill EVERYTHING. Just depopulate the entire wasteland. Every faction gets wiped out

The only essential character is Yes Man in hardcore mode, so it's entirely possible.

Well then, I found what I am doing for my next run

GECK crashing 2 times. Waiting over 2 hours for it to respond and then lagging and hanging when I move object in the wasteland cells. This is sorta why I ruled out roof garden and went with basement. However since then and now that I read some past comments, I had the idea to add some machine to the basement. Some of which was inspired by Searchlight and the merchant buildings there.

it would be cool if it tied into your other skills, like you shoot off their hat or something
or like that part in wolf among us where you can just casually act like you're gonna smash up the club while the owner is near shitting his pants

Wait, doesn't stuff respawn?
Wait, doesn't stuff respawn?
Fiends and raiders are basically just scenery so its all good

this is hilarious
i'm doing a hardcore legion run right now, first time for both. well not entirely my first hardcore run, this is just the first time i'm completing a hardcore run.
Wait, doesn't stuff respawn?
certain things do not, such as companions.

Are you using GECK powered up? It might solve some issue and includes some good enhancements

I did it.
Unarmed/melee is the only way to go, you really chew through ammo with guns.

You can even kill Yes Man, he's not essential. However, he just reuploads himself to a new body every time you kill him.

unless you turn him into radioactive goo...

Yes, but unnamed characters will still spawn. Soldiers, Citizens, Fiends, and others. It's also possible to beat the game without killing any living organism, so consider doing that also, it's really fun.

Yeah, Yes Man always comes back so that way you always have a way to reach one of the endings since you can alienate every other faction

Fun is empty if it isn't done over the perforated, flaming, ripped apart and goo-ified corpse of a raider.

Yeah I think I'll just take this heavily modded M60 with +5 dam +5 Rate of fire +5 regen ammo +5 critical damage and take a nice stroll through the strip.
New game, see if I can make their bodies explode before they hit the floor.
A problem I had with New Vegas, is it has less "Dungeons" in vanilla than F3 did.
I have all these cool weapons, and only a few *practical* places to really use them.

i agree
my main gripe with fallout new vegas are the locations
there are more locations, but most of them aren't fleshed out. The game was rushed, and its fairly obvious when you look at the map and how little content the legion offers compared to the other factions.
Fallout 3...nearly every location has content and depth.
So many more memorable locations as well honestly.
Areas like tenpenny tower, paradise falls, lamplight, andale, etc, feel a lot more unique and interesting than most places in fallout new vegas.
I really hope fallout 4 has more depth in locations, and better gameplay and less bugs than both games. I'll stay optimistic.
tbh I never really like the dungeons in Bethesda games unless they were big base raids like Paradise Falls or Primm.
Well, if anything, the World of Pain mod adds a lot of places to the Mojave, lot's of dungeons and stuff too, some new items and enemies too (I think?)
So I missed a 0 while setting my FOV in the console and I learned a valuable lesson about gamebryo

Add Nuka Cola machine that converts Nuka Cola to Ice Cold Nuka Cola. You don't need TTW either.
Cleared out basement move plants to roof. I will increase plants grow time eventually along with chances crops loss.
