Whatever Bethesda is using ceased to be gamebryo long ago when they modified it to hell and back. Most of those improvements are already in creation engine and have been in the engine since oblivion.
Really the things creation needs is real* HDR/Tonemapping, built-in SSAO, and some proper variance/GPU-rendered shadows. Skyrim's graphic engine was just very bare-bones, almost no post-processing whatsoever, and the shadows suck which is why it looks so bland and grey.
An updated shader system conforming to new pbr stanards would also be really cool since it tends to force a higher bare minimum stanard for content realism, but I doubt bethesda will be on the ball with that. Oblivion and Morrowind were fairly cutting edge for their time but I think Bethesda has fallen the tech curve in recent years.
It would help if they did something other than pretty up the graphics like not have it unstable as shit even after X amount of patches.
If their next game had only slightly better graphics but ran very well, had drastically better AI and allowed even more extensive modding that would sell it better than any graphical enhancement ever would.
M...MAYBE THAT'S WHY IT'S TAKING SO LONG FOR THEM TO BUILD A NEW GAME
COS' THEY'RE MAKING A BRAND NEW ENGINE FOR IT ALL THAT'LL RIVAL OTHER ENGINES LIKE THE FROSTBITE ENGINE
r..right?
Super nice facial animations would be sick as well.
Combat that actually feels good... I mean if the combat of Fallout was like STALKER, ballistics and feel and such.
But putting the engine aside, I hope they up the writing. It was so hard to roleplay in Skyrim. It was rather vanilla, neutral and boring.

Maybe he got all the rights and code and docs and shit from Van Buren somehow and he's fixing it up for release? Proper release, not just that broken tech demo thing that's farting around?
As much as I'd love a Fallout or TES game on a functional, really nice engine, I honestly feel like half of the Fallout charm now comes from just how zany the Gamebryo engine can be. I'm totally content with them sticking to the horrible, buggy ass engine they've got as long as they're doing consistent upgrades to it (think like the jump from oblivion to skyrim, though a little more than that)

Yeah, it sounds weird, but to be honest the honestly rather static world of Fallout 1 and 2 translates really well to the incredibly stiff and awkward gamebyro engine

The first time I went to the Citadel everyone had their little conversation and wandered off. I was standing there for a few minutes, unable to move, before realizing that this probably wasn't normal.
The time I played OA, General Jingwei flourished his sword and stood still. Come to think of it, everyone stood still. Even the guy about to be executed was really still. Most importantly, I stood still, and continued to do so for several minutes before realizing that this probably wasn't normal.
The time I played The Pitt, I went into the city, talked to Midea, but Jackson didn't spawn. I had no idea that the conversation was supposed to be interrupted, so I couldn't get the key to anywhere useful. It took two hours of wandering before I realized that this probably wasn't normal.

"todd sir we've ran out of ideas! We just can't translate Fallout's charm into 3d!"
"lets just shuffle the game engine's code like a deck of cards and see what happens then"
Though the stiff charm of Gamebryo works in simpler games like Fallout or Fallout 3, it does not work in Fallout 2 or New Vegas, where there is meant to be lots of war, battles and huge number of people carelessly dying.
It's difficult to get the feeling in New Vegas that the Mojave is a death trap for soldiers and civilians alike when there are rarely ever any battles, and when there are they are very small.
To be fair, I don't feel that is completely Gamebryo's fault, we're also discussing a game that was never really its intended vision and also on fairly old hardware. While I think its true that the engine has difficulty with massive battles, I do believe that frequent small battles (squad vs squad) can easily be done, and other compromises could be made for semi-frequent big battles (give a simpler AI system to soldiers in these battles).

I absolutely love Fallout, its lore is one of my favorites of any game I've ever played. I've spent countless hours on the wiki reading up on anything and everything, as well as having played through fo3 and NV countless times. Heres my problem, though. I really want to play fallout 1 and 2 for the experience (hue) and to better understand the lore, however I cannot get behind the gameplay to save my life. Its simply... boring, and I don't mean that in the "lol old games suk y r there no first person guns lol how do i find cheat codes", rather the pure gameplay style and mechanic feels like more of a chore than a game to me, and bores me to tears.
What do I DO?

Either read some guides/ask questions about what you find boring about it, and tell us what kind of gameplay styles you want and we'll try and help you.
Or just accept that you don't like its gameplay and move on.
I honestly just don't understand how people can't get into Fallout's gameplay. I never really had that problem, and I played Fallout and Fallout 2 way after I played "Fallout" 3. I mean, yeah, a game can just not be for you, but that doesn't mean it's flawed and horribly boring.
Man, Obsidian's character writing is so much better than Bethesda's. It makes me upset knowing that Fallout 4 will be inevitably written by Bethesda. I was about to post a wall of text about it before I decided to just condense it down to this.

I'd tolerate shitty writing if they can at least get the gameplay right.
I'll only be hugely disappointed if they don't include the new features that Obsidian pout into New Vegas, like damage threshold, SPECIAL stats that actually matter, more deadly gunplay, etc. Realistically I don't expect them to *improve* on anything Obsidian did, but as long as they don't fuck up the new gameplay features Obsidian established in New Vegas, it will be a good game either way.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that characters feel like they have their own lives in Obsidian's games and they have more than one emotion. Take James Garret from fallout new vegas for instance, not an important NPC by any means, but he gives out a few quests and you get to see him a few times. He starts out a little wary, is then professional when he gives you a quest, really REALLY excited about fisto, and very happy that you can bring him business deals. He emotes, you can see that he obviously has a robot fetish when you bring him fisto despite the dialogue not explicitly saying so. In a bethesda game the character would either vary between slightly perturbed, somber, slightly happy, slightly angry, or slightly sad. The range is fucking terrible, and the actors don't emote because it's not in the script. If James Garret was in a Bethesda game you MIGHT be able to suss out that he has a robot fetish, or that, despite running a den of vice and sin, he actually cares for his customers in his own way. That's a big might, and not on my first run through. You know what else is cool? I can tell the Garrets are twins, I can actually look at their potato-y faces and get that they're twins despite New Vegas' crappy as hell face models. True, I have to be told first, but they look enough alike in age and facial structure that I can dig it. In Skyrim? Haha, no. Every nord looks the same, every Khajiit looks the same, every redguard looks the fucking same.
Just... emote bethesda. Please.

try cranking the animation speed sliders to max, and toggle always run on? it's not that much of a difference, but it might be the push you need.
also, just try sticking with it for a while. I love the 2d Fallouts, but god the first hour or so of gameplay can be so aggressively dull and unfun sometimes (the Vault 13 cave in F1 ain't that bad - you've got a pistol, but random encounters can absolutely paste you, and Shady Sands doesn't have much in the way of really cool dialogue or quests, and as for the Temple Of Trials in F2, everyone hates it)
and then it just clicks, and you find yourself pouring in hours into an ugly-ass half broken old isometric rpg. that's the magic of Fallout, baby.
oh and please, please get the high-res patches, they'll pop up once you google 'em. doesn't affect the gameplay, but it'll slow down the world map so that you don't get swarmed with random encounters (tied to CPU speed, dumb 90s programming), fix the color glitches, and make the game look less like ass.
It's actually better not waste a bunch of pistol ammo in the Vault caves. I always punch and knife my way out, but that's probably cause I crank agility way up. It's a pretty good way to make the game actually playable.

Well look on the bright side, at least the atmosphere and world design of fallout 4 will be amazing then.
Imagine if bethesda designed the worldspace of fallout 4 but hired obsidian to write it.
Does anyone know where I can get a download of the Willhaven mod? I really want to try it out but it's under an update development atm. I know they take a while so I was wondering if I could just get the latest version

Try these links. They are russian sites, so proceed with caution:

Normally shit like (and especially) skin and body textures break due to some weird molesting with the whole archive invalidation thing fallout has.
If that (auto archive invalidation) thing is a mod you downloaded try Unticking it, (i think it's in tools..) Untick archive invalidation, run FNV, get to main menu, exit out, tick it back on, run again and it should in theory be fine, but I'd make a backup of your folders anyway, just incase my advice doesn't work.
