• Why "Gaming" has died and is not "ART"

If you think there's hasn't been any good games in the last 5 years you seriously need to open your eyes. I think there's never been a better time to be a "gamer". You have complete choice over what you play and despite what everyone keeps complaining about, it's far cheaper and more accessible than it has been in the past. You have the big budget FPS's if you want them You have the nostalgic 2d indie games if you want them And you have everything between, also again despite what people say these games make up for such a tiny amount of the games being released out there. If you look hard you will always find a new interesting game to play, whether its on PC, consoles or your phone. Also the games you talk about with the QTE's (which have always existed by the way, they aren't even worse now, QTE's have been there almost from the beginning) and an experience which you feel like is getting played too you, maybe that's the point? I don't play an uncharted game to play a massive open world game, no I play it to be entertained and have the story told to me while I go through the game slowly.
Well, to generally dispute your points: 1. going to skip this as it is generally an opinion to be refuted rather than an absolute fact; you could be just as cynical about the general intelligence of the population of the world as more people are born. Art forms are a means of expression and whether a piece of art is great or not is a matter of subjective opinion unless you are deliberately criticizing imperfections in form, symmetry and other art fundamentals; which are subtly different in each type of art form that is created. 2. Yes gaming started off as a way for programmers to express their skills but digital gaming also developed heavily off of ideas of fundamental and traditional game design such as those used in board games and the fundamentals and psychology of play. While yes, it is indeed profitable, digital gaming evolved over time to become an expression of a programmer; games themselves are a way to create an experience, and creating arcades and etc. were a method of spreading this profit by allowing and giving access to this unique never before seen experience. As Home consoles came in, it was a method to transfer this experience into a more convenient setting. 3. Of course, anything profitable will have millions of dollars of advertisement money poured into it, and yes 'proper' commercials will show up in an attempt to gain a wider audience, as publishers typically want their investment to pay off. Story however, is an integral part of an experience, and although you may refute that before a certain point it was never a part of gaming, it actually began very early on: Space invaders had a story. Was it an elaborate tale that spanned across thousands of pages? No, but it still had a basic story: You are a defender of a planet, shooting down aliens to prevent their invasion. The Oregon trail was nothing but a story of how settlers survived within the wilderness through their wits and decisions alone, and it was the beginning of text adventures (a genre that was influenced by heavily written stories FAR BEFORE the console era). Either way that you look at it, even the most basic game has a story in order to provide motivation and interest within the player. I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "Controlled gaming", but I would love to hear a greater explanation from you. 4. This is ranting 5. This mainly appears to be ranting and generally emotion and opinion influenced arguments, but I will refute them anyway: By definition, a game is a method of play that fosters enjoyment and entertainment through interaction, so unless you are talking about the many games that are not entertaining or exciting to you, games themselves are still considered entertainment. Could you please elaborate on what you mean by saying that "Indie games are just shit holes of great ideas that fall short". The generalization that many games are only cutscenes and Quick Time Events is rather crass and it should be noted that while yes this is a common trend, it is beginning to fade out; all forms of entertainment have their slumps and their peaks. Typically these additions of QTE's and multiple cutscenes are added in to create a game that is closer to an interactive movie rather than a a directly influenced situation, and they are used to draw in a larger audience. Regardless of whether it is considered entertaining, exciting or a genuine gameplay experience or not, it is important to recognize that not all games are created from such events and it is rare to see all genres of games replicate this trend. As it currently stands you appear to be quite infuriated over a small portion of games that do not cater directly to your tastes. Yes I agree that QTE's are a bad example of game design and cutscenes are not always the best way to convey a story, you are casting a rather broad statement for an entire form of media due to a single trend. I imagine that you would say that music is dead after hearing "New Age Music" as well, when that is clearly not true. If you would like to counteract my argument, please do, I'm interested in how you would like to sustain your argument.
I usually never say this, but holy fuck was that a TL;DR.
I usually never say this, but holy fuck was that a TL;DR.
Which one, mine or his? I apologize if it was mine, but I like to respond to arguments that are heavily influenced by opinion with strict logic and elaborated statements to debase them.
What does PUI mean? Im honestly just saying what i think. I dont think gaming is "art" or "entertainment". I feel its become bastardized by the idea of success and there hasn't been a "good" game in the last 5 years.

Entertainment is a form of activity that holds the attention and interest of an audience, or gives pleasure and delight. It can be an idea or a task, but is more likely to be one of the activities or events that have developed over thousands of years specifically for the purpose of keeping an audience's attention.
Your argument is invalid
