Chalice is a really good item, but when you're ahead, it's a waste to invest into it.

But my point is that Archangels doesn't measure up to Unholy Grail for someone who wants to spam spells like Lux, where else are you going to get that CDR?

Unholy grail gives good mana regen and solid MR. Usually good if you're not quite a bit ahead and could use the MR versus the enemy mid laner.
Why the fuck would you get tear on lux when you dont have insanelly spammable abilities?
Morellonomicon is great if you're a bit farther ahead as it gives more damage than a grail at the expense of a bit of mana regen and no MR.

Chalice is amazing on Lux, because you fight against AP carries.
Tear is not good on Lux. Believe me, I'm an old Lux player. You don't need that manapool when you have blue and chalice. If you're balling, you have chalice to restore mana. Think about it, most mids cannot charge tear unless they have completely spammable spells. Lux has three spells with >10 cooldowns at no CDR. Against mids, Chalice is useful as balls. You should not be buying Tear at all. It's more gimmicky than anything, thinking that you'll have awesome max shields when you get Seraph's, but the point is, you won't have awesome max shields that early unless you spammed your ass off and didn't go for kills or ganks in lane. Lux also has to stop to cast all of her spells, so you can't spam all the way to lane.
Chalice. The Better Choice(tm).
