I'm told that Gragas used to be a tank until somebody played him AP mid at a tournament and everyone suddenly went "Holy shit he's an AP Caster!"
I once played AD gragas, focusing on his E of course. With cooldown reduction it can get to a very low cooldown (5>). It also has pretty good damage if you buy AD (and of course you can buy AP if you want.) Especially considering the AD bonus from your W.

He has a 0.9 AP ratio on his Q and 1.0 AP ratio on his ult, why would anybody play him as pure tank, unless it's for shit n giggles.
I think back then his AP ratios might have been smaller.

I straight out played him as AP right off the bat.
Too bad I was awful at the game back in S1, so I couldn't really use it to it's fullest extent.
But yea, nobody really knew how to play him back before S1 tourneys.

nah they've actually only nerfed them
IIRC his barrel was 1.0 and his body slam was higher than 0.5
you can still jungle Gragas if you're an adventurous one
It's not like semi tanky gragas is bad. His W is very, very, very nice. It's just that AP gragas is that much better ATM.
all his abilities are significantly more satisfying when a cask does like half their health in damage
Oh, by the way, a level 18 Elise with Nashor's Tooth and Spellsword mastery can deal a potential 55 (+50% AP) magic damage on her basic attacks. Assuming she has a lowish 350 AP, that's 230 magic damage per attack, not counting her spiderlings, the probably great attackspeed she has, or her base damage.
If you do count everything (her base damage, spiderlings, etc), assuming she has no extra AD, only Nashor's Tooth as an on-hit item, 350 AP, and assuming that her and all of her spiderlings attack once, that is:
706.5 mixed damage in one attack.
(101.5 + 55 (+ 50% AP) + (5 * 40 (+ 10% AP)
tl;dr build elise tanky on-hit and rape everything

Nahhh,
Thornmail sucks on normal tanks because you normally won't take much focus, so you get AOE damage reduction items like FrozenHeart.
But as rammus you have taunt to force focus, and combined with your W it gives a pretty decent amount of damage.

Unless the enemy team is full AD and you already have Frozen Heart/Randuin's, Thornmail shouldnt be a choice in your build as Rammus

You use your passive as pure luxury, you don't intentionally build armor just to make your passive better.

Either way Thornmail is a mediocre item and as Katsuie said, should only get if the enemy team is full AD.

This looks so correct.
The only legit reason to buy Thornmail is either the entire enemy team being full-on rightclickers or if you're already going 30-0 kills before 20 mins.
