If you know how to play him, you can stomp with him in ranked, mainly because A: people will underestimate you because lol Viktor and B: he's actually one of the better burst APCs in the game, just underplayed.

Every Viktor I see in ranked (which is pretty darn rare) does quite well. Not omg stomped well, but well enough to beat the other mid laner.

I used to main Viktor
He's great but he really needs some work - he can absolutely murder the shit out of someone if he lands his full combo but his ult is clunky as fuck and if you use it on a moving target half the time it misses then fails to lock on

Ranked = Try-hard on and play your best.

You should still try your best, you might be playing with other players that are playing normals to get better.
If they're playing normals to get better, then they need to focus on their own playing. If I'm playing normals to learn how to last hit better or something, then fine. If someone decides to go AP bruiser taric top, that sucks and we'll probably lose but it won't have an impact on my own ability to learn from my mistakes and play better.
I actually think it's a good thing for people to play like idiots sometimes, it puts more pressure on you to not get caught out of position and to play correctly.
