like really, i've never seen an all around good liss player, they either pull off some great ults in fights but die horribly in lane over and over or just suck at everything

This season, yeah. You will be matched with silver players but your "rank" will still be gold v. If I remember right this could be changing next season though.

Find one or two champs that you're not shit with and just play those. Ignore toxic people on your team, they're not going to enhance your experience. Remember, the mute button is useful. If you're absolutely going to lose (three of your team are AFK and the fourth is Karma), just use it as a learning experience. You'll inevitably end up in a weird scenario where you get dived by three people at once, so try to live and if you don't analyze what went wrong. Don't blame your jungler for not being there, he can't always be there. Figure out what you did to not survive the situation. Sometimes you just CAN'T, sometimes you can and you just need to realize what happened.
If you're REALLY serious you could watch your own replays or something, but no one does that because it's painful.
The first point's the most important one, though. Once I found Swain I advanced through the tiers WAY faster than I did before.

That was until they nerfed his stats to the ground. Sona is tankier that him early.
He is still extremly good, if you know how to play him and you play with people that know how to coop with him (aka people that know how to use your lamp/won't impulsively click it as soon as you throw it, won't waste a chance when you use Q/E, etc.).

Not even trolling, I see him better as an ADC than as a support.
Every free week I get to enjoy the glory of never losing lane as him. His early game is kinda shit and if the enemy team isn't terrible, it's definitely possible to give up an early kill. But thanks to his soul collection/passive on his flay, he will almost always become a bigger terror than the opposing adc.
His kit gives him survivability in so many ways it's crazy.
His only weakness is a lack of escape but in my opinion, he makes up for it in his ability to outplay inferior lane opponents.
Late game the passive on his E can allow you to kill enemy carries in 2 - 4 hits. If you get SUPER fed, you can one shot supports or really bad junglers.
Except that your attack range on Thresh is total ass for an ADC and that Flay only really boosts his damage if you let it charge up and even then it only applies for your first attack.
Blitz Thresh with a friend as Thresh ADC is pretty boss though.

Just keep in mind, you should always go aggressive because you're better than almost everyone pre lvl 30, and he wont answer aggression well, because he's not lvl 30.
If you cant, then just farm. Hide in the bush to cause suspicion and come out to farm and go back in. Taking hits to farm is good if you don't die. As a general note, the max time you can go full-out offense is about 2:45, because at that point enemy jungler finished red and is coming top.
Otherwise you did a good job protectin' the carries and such

It's yet another of those things that only works against people that doesn't know what to do with a X.
His Autoattack damage is shit unless you build him to do some and only if you focus Flay first, and even then you have to time your attacks to load the passive, and you'll be easy prey (without protective items, he needs a lot of souls to have a decent armor.). His range and attack speed is pretty bad (god how many pokes have I missed because I stopped the attack a bit too early..). He is not a reliable carry, at all.
Also, He does has escapes: You can use your hook to grab a jungle monster (and in some cases, an enemy minion/champ that was in a convenient position) and escape. You can throw your lamp before doing that to escape with an ally. (And an effective way to shut him is to clear any potential "escape routes" for him.)
Any feed champion can dominate awful players.
