It says if it's magical or physical damage in game, ad champs usually do physical damage and ap champs usually do magical damage (there is also true damage which ignores armor and mres doing the full amount of damage, i think this CAN be mitigated by damage reduction effects like ali's ult) but there are some exceptions like lee sin's ground slam thing which scales of ad but deals magical damage which makes lee sin a great top laner because most people build armor against lee sin's crazy physical burst then get wrecked when you max the ground slam first
Graves scales pretty well with AP
