You get madreds on Lee Sin, Zed. That's about it. The mana regen is really damn good and unless you're autoattack heavy it really doesn't make sense to buy it.
As for Spirit of the Elder Lizard the thing is that it's a fairly big damage spike earlier on because of the cheap costs, but does absolutely no damage compared to something like a BT or IE; Just have a look at the ezreal in this game yeah he kites a lot but he's got very little damage compared to Graves. You get it on junglers because it gives you that little bit of damage for not a lot of cash (which you don't have in the jungle).
Just sell it after you've built 5 items(which is highly unlikely considering the amount of wards and oracles you'll buy).
It's not like you need that increased jungle damage stats late late late game.

I'd actually buy Spirit of the elder lizard on Zed.
Madreds seems superior on Voli, Xin and Trundle too(huge ass AS steroid for more madreds procs and mostly single target champs).
Btw Shyvana with Elder Lizard spirit seems interesting.

elder lizard gives you ad, health regen, mana regen, cool down reduction, bonus damage to creeps and true damage for only 2000g
razors give you an inconsistent, random chance to do magic damage to creeps and some armor for 700g
Razors are never worth it IMO, if you're an energy/manaless jungler I'd skip both but having mana regen is really useful for any mana based jungler over not having mana regen on your dumb razors

upgrading to madreds and then just leaving it at that IS worth it on a lot of champions still
it's only 400 gold for something that helps you clear way faster even if it's random is totally worth it, especially if you have AS runes/buffs

You have to keep in mind though; Lizard Elder gives you a lot more teamfight presence. Razor just helps you clear faster. The thing is that there's not many items that fall into the cost difference between a razor and the lizard elder; and help you do your job. The only one that comes to mind is someone like Zed. The armor helps and your main job is to simply blow someone up; Not really someone who's going to stick around long in a fight to make good use of the passive like hecarim. A Razor+Brutalizer combo would be a lot better on him than a Lizard Elder.
BUT. Most of the junglers are tanky and agressive; There's not a lot of instagib but mostly running into a fight and being disruptive. The passive damage does stack up over time. With the added survivability the CDR helps you get your spells off more often, and the regen is always nice. It just doesn't quite clear the jungle as fast.
I suppose you could always grab a razor early and sell it for a Lizard Elder when teamfights start happening; But it's just too good. It gives solid stats for cheap, just like the other two spirit items. Razor in it's current state is not really that good. Hell, when was the last time you saw Wriggles? As i said; Zed, maybe Lee Sin or other resourceless champions. Otherwise i really wouldn't get it.

Besides having 50% bigger range, his ult gave assists too. Free 5 assists every teamfight yay
His passive was also broken as fuck. he was one of the rare junglers that you'd start with boots or even doran's blade in middle of S2 because his sustain was way too strong(you'd never fall below 90%)
There was also a huge nerf on his shield, it lasted 2 seconds before and it was basically 2 seconds of immunity in small fights e.g. 1v1.
Besides the huge nerfs, they also lowered the overall damage on his Q and ult.

Last time I played 3 of my teammates did nothing but sit on one obelisk(the only one we had) and the other was a cait farming to carry us. In dominion.
I was hopeless trying to cap the other points as sona while the enemy jax sat in the middle of the map, waiting for me to show up anywhere.
I have no idea what the rest of the enemy was doing, they were probably just messing around while they won.

I guess madreds is ok for lee sin because he can buld it into lantern for a free ward he can use for chase/escapes but that's about it

Why would you build Elder lizard on a champion who only has single target damage?
The item synergies with
- Champions who are AD
- Who have AOE abilities / Low Cooldown Abilities.
Don't waste your money on a Spirit of the lizard elder on Trundle, just get Madred's Razors and then build something useful instead.
As for Maokai, There are better items to buy then spirit of the Ancient golem so you either get madred's or Spirit Stone and then not upgrade it.
How terrifying is it to see a Powerball+Tp+Homeguard Rammus fly out of a bush at about 18 million MS?

I wouldn't build a lizard Elder. I'd build the Ancient Golem. I know it's not completely relevant to the discussion; But either a Razor or an Elder Lizard would be stupid on them. Though i would take the Elder Lizard over a Razor regardless.
