They are gone roll out major changes in the pre-season.

Also pick a champ or two and just play them non-stop unless you get bored. Easiest way to stomp (and have fun) when you're new.

unless they're smurfing, the people you meet are probably lying when they say you suck and they dont (because everyone sucks early on)
bots dont teach you much tbh, id say only use them to get a hang of the game and its mechanics, but theyre not gonna make you a good player

Don't buy single champions with RP. Check out the free to play champions as the weeks come by and look for some champions that feel nice to play; in about a months time you'll see more than half of the champions come by.

Neither did I before coming to LoL.
I just started spending on LoL since I started using hundreds of hours for it, and I do like supporting developers and such for their things when I like it. So I didn't see any reason not to.

First few games are generally filled with smurfs, and the more games you win the more smurfs you play against.
Also I played my first bot game after like ~500 wins.

In the options you can flip the minimap to the left side. You can't read champion abilities in a match, so that's a good thing to do during the loading screen. A good mindset might also be to not approach it as dota2-easymode (even if it might be), but definitely its own game.
There's no abandonment, but you can surrender after 20mins (/ff in chat). Expensive champions are not better than cheap champions. Figuring out what champ to buy is probably gonna be one of the hardest parts, maybe watch videos of them in action to decide if you should really get them.
Oh man, Dominion is hilarious when you make people chase you across the map.
Then taunt them in the face with 200 HP or less whenever they try to kill you. :v:

Get trash talked for picking rumble first, which was stupid I agree but w/e. We also get a kat mid. Ez says we aren't viable and that we lost. Everyone agrees I'm gonna lose top. Facing renekton, and I do lose. Go 0/3. Mute everyone, try my best. In the end I go 16/3/9 winning each teamfight because of ult placement and picking off targets. "rumble you are a god". Damn right.

It gets worse once you know all of the champions, it goes from "Maybe I should buy this one next. Or that guy." to

Starting out felt ok, there's only a couple of champs available, one of the reasons I never got started with dota2 was because wtf do I pick, feels very intimidating, like I have to learn all the heroes before picking one into a comp. In LoL it was like "well I have nothing else"
(Might actually sound worse than it is though, don't let me discourage you, lol. You can make all the 450IP champs work (except maybe poppy), some are even very good)
I dunno I'm one of the like probably three people that likes having to unlock champs. I wish the max cost was like 4800 but I like the sense of ~~progression~~ or something, I guess.
I hate being first pick.
I keep first picking thresh for people then alt tabbing and forgetting until the game starts and have to play thresh with the wrong runes.
